First of all, I don't even know why I am even posting here since this is obviously the classified ads -- NOT A MARKET TOPICS FORUM, but anyway...
The devs have made the following statement regarding Shiva: "When placing a bid order (buying stuff), the order amount will be put aside (in escrow) while the order is active."
This will slash liquidity and prices will plunge. There will be no player orders for freight or any other low volume good like armements. Thought you could sell that Thermic Membrane on the market? Forget it, you won't be able to because THERE WON'T BE ANY PLAYER BUY ORDERS. Nobody is going to tie up a million dollars in buy orders for thermic membranes or any other armament or ship for that matter.
The only way to make an open order will be posting on a forum like this, or on external web sites, so if you thought this forum was busy now, wait til Shiva gets here.
And in the meantime, be sure to get your mining in now and sell all your mins, because when Shiva gets here all the buy orders will vanish into nothingness.

When placing a bid order (buying stuff), the order amount will be put aside (in escrow) while the order is active. This basically prevents trading on margin.
What does that mean again?

Edited by: HQ Monkeh on 31/07/2004 17:24:01 It prevents a number of cheap market tactics. Granted it will have some disadvantages, but overall it seems good to me. Simple solution to someone who wants to sell: Put your stuff on long-term sell order. Merchants and businesspeople can then see it and decide for themselves if the distance/profit margin is there.
Seems simple enough to me.

Given the way i trade that will make no difference to me at all.
The only people it will make a difference to is people who dont have enough cash to cover all their buy orders. Thats fine because they are the market manipulators so we can expect a little more stability in the market.

is pretty much the same thing as we saw here.
if anything i think this will help the market by weeding out bogus buy/sell orders. and with the falling prices of minerals ( according to you) that means ships will be cheaper=people more willing to buy and take bigger risks ( .0 mining and npc hunting). so what you loose in the profit made from markup you will make back in sale volumes.
so, it all sounds good to me.

Well, you guys aren't thinking this through. Currently all of the liquidity in freight/armaments is on extended credit and a good fraction of the liquidity in mins is on credit. All this liquidity will be lost if the changes are put through. We are talking BIG price plunge.
What you are missing is that most traders have 90% of their wealth in assets, not cash. On my asset star map most of the systems in empire are yellow. I have goods at hundreds and hundreds of stations. This is my wealth, not the small amount of cash I have. If you restrict my orders to how much cash I have, instead of my overall wealth you will slash the number of buy orders I (and all other traders) can put out.
For many low volume goods like most armaments that means there will be ZERO buy orders. No one can afford to tie up valuable cash by putting out buy orders that get a unit here a unit there. _____________________________________________ I am motivated by various things, mostly ISK. |
