It seems like the tempest has it all - damage, a great armor tank, weapons that don't drain cap and speed. I can't see how something like a blasterthron would outperform a tempest due to cap/tank problems. Am I overlooking something or is the tempest really as good as it seems? |

i read that tempest sucks in all ways .. unless you are very good pilot with good skils and you know how to fly with it ..

5x warriors / 5x S ecm / 5x S rat specific.
Fast ratting. WATCH THE ****ING INTEL CHANNELS so you don't even need to rely on neut and drones to save your sorry ass. ¦¦¦ Eve what it lacks in frames per second it more than makes up for with drama per thread. |

Tempest = damage, a great armor tank... Error, does not compute. |

When i'm in 0.0 space, then i'm ratting some few times in my Tempest.
This is my NPC setup:
High-Slot:
6x Dual 650mm Repeating Artillery II 2x Heavy Unstable Power Fluctuator I
Med-Slot:
1x 100MN MicroWarpdrive II 1x Warp Disruptor II 1x Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I 1x ECM - Multispectral Jammer II 1x Heavy Capacitor Booster II
Low-Slot:
1x Large Armor Repairer II 1x Damage Control II 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1x 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I 1x Gyrostabilizator II
Rig-Slot (400 Calibration Points In Total):
3x Trimark Armor Pump I (50 Calibration Cost) Gives 15 % more Armor HP Bonus.
Drones:
3x Berserkers II
Yes, as you can see, this is the exact same setup i use on my PVP Tempest. But the good thing with that setup is that it's working very good for both PVP and NPCing.
And because you use a PVP setup on the ship, no one expect you to have a PVP setup on your ship if you get scrambled by enemies in a belt while ratting.
You will give them a little suprise then. |

Where am I wrong then? The top six high slots for large autocannons, two heavy NOS
Midslots - Large MWD and the rest cap recharger II
Lows - LAR, 4 active rat specific hardeners and one wildcard
Drones for added dps after grabbing agg
So it can quickly get to a battleship, nos it, open up large autocannons, sic the drones and have a very reasonable tank. Where am I wrong here? |

And if I am wrong, how is a blasterthron supposedly better? |

The mighty Tempest is often underestimated. Take it out for a few test flights and see how it goes.
Personally, I like the ship. It fits my style very nicely. |

when i used to rat with tempest i always sniped from 100km warp in. phoon just does a better job up close due to slot layout/extra drones. |

Here let me help you.
Blasterthron, 125m3 drone bay = 5x Heavy ECM Drones...each with a 66% chance of jamming a Tempest (19 str LADAR), not to mention Blasterthron DPS >>> Tempest DPS (especially when perma-jammed by drones).
You may wish to think about your setup a bit. The Tempest (like all other ships) can tank or gank, but really doesn't do both at the same time very well. |

Edited by: Norwood Franskly on 30/01/2009 06:22:39 I've ratted in a tempest a few times and I'll be honest, your much better using a smaller ship.
My preferred ratting ships are either a vagabond or a Hurricane. Just gank fit them with some shield extenders in the mid slots and you'll have plenty of dps. Ratting is maybe 75% of the time warping between belts and closing distance to shoot the rats. Tempest wastes a lot of time aligning and then mwding into range (if your AC fit).
You don't really need much of a tank either with 2 large shield extender the passive recharge is enough to keep you alive, I rarely if ever get below 50% shields while ratting.
A standard PVP vagabond works fine I use the cookie cutter 3 gyro, 2 nano / 2 LSE, mwd, disruptor / 5 220 II's. I fit either a cloak or a salvager in the spare high.
For doing plexes thats another story you will need a BS or a heavy tanked command ship then, I like to use a plated typhoon with an alt to remote rep. But for regular ratting light faster ships work better.
If you want to use another races ships for ratting, both ishtar and deimos work very well too.
edit: I should add that I've used that setup against Guristas, Serpentis and Angel's for something like Sansha the shield extenders may not work on a t1 ship due to the high em damage dealt.

The Typhoon is a much better ratter, than the Tempest.
If you insist on using a Tempest, take the advice above and fit a shield tank.
