My 5th was a vagabond being piloted by a guy running 2 accounts at the same time. I had warped to a belt in a mega hoping to find a barge and hauler I saw on the directional scan.
Once there an Astarte and Vaga jump me and in my fumbling to return fire and run defenses I forgot to scram the Astarte and it fled with 20% hull. While the pilot was busy making his Astarte flee I scrammed the vaga instead and got him.

4 years old now not sure if I got 5 strait fight kills, enough kill mails but not sure how many of those where just me and someone else or is that not what you meant?
Gate camps and stuff included I think after about a year (spend a long time as a miner when I started out  )

My 2hr old character in a faction fitted navy hookbill killed verones navy hookbill last night on eve radio, does this mean if i kill another 4 people in lowsec tonight i'll be an ace?

Yes, yes it does.
Tho lets be fair here, 5 kills does seem a tad low to be classed as an Ace doesn't it?
So what would other's class as "Ace" status?
Within the Noobmercs we'd probably say a example of what some might call an ace would be Ivava Rocku, and luckypunch tho he does now serve within the federal noobmercs. |

I was 13 months old when I got my 5th solo kill 
In my defense I may mention that I was carebearing for 9 months before I started pvp.
