Edited by: Jowen Datloran on 02/08/2004 14:19:14 The Jove is green enough for me to be considered alien. I would rather have new distinctive looks for the lesser factions. Especially the agents from Shansha's Nation needs to look more like droids. ---------------- What's a rumor on page one is a fact on page two |

Hey the Jove is just fine (or a rogue faction of the Jove)
their tech is better then our (a must for any war) they are dying (meaning there are fewer of them then us) the point is just that we need something to come in and stir up the EVE universe (basicly a war) the V'rix the way they where intreduced to E&B was just one way to do it they where only unfriendly if you started firing on them (something i would love to see with certain types of NPC Pirates in EVE) they talked funny (took some figuring out what they where trying to say) and was a pain in the ass if they became hostile
even having a NPC (Pirate) group really pick up and start attacking aliance players in force in some of the controlled systems works for me as we players are invading "their" space again they should only make a effort to oust the aliance players that dont have good standings with them
just basicly something to spice up EVE

Ditto, I know Eve is an online game and that it's all about the human interaction and so forth but really...whatÆs the story?
There's some news which sets the tone a bit and some lovely short stories and chronicles but what's currently happening in the Eve universe outside of the corporations? Nothing. It would be nice to have some overall storyline that we can become involved in as well as all the missions, hunting, mining runs, corporate wars and so forth.
I've never played Anarchy Online (although I picked up a free thirty day demo last week which IÆll give a go) but I've read that the updates/expansions packs add new story elements and the upcoming expansion is all about a huge alien invasion. I'm still not partial to the idea of aliens in Eve but some type of event/story/plot arc would be nice.

Sorry guys... going to drift alittle off topic and maybe wildly vear back on toopic.
Why do you need aliens? Is it because they are fricken cool? If so I can agree with those who've said eve's back story is cool enough. It doesn't need aliens. I'll also agree that aliens with 'human' motives are weak. I'd actually like the idea of just things turning up with sponges for armour sitting in deep space. Agent missions to find an survey and the like.
If they are needed because of conflict. No - I'd actually like to see more of the in game conflicts used. Where an Amarr NPC corp is automatically at war with a Minmatar one. The back story is there - but isn't used enough. Many players know that conflict - but what of the Caldari-Gallante conflict?
Alliances in 0.0 either having to befriend the rats, or fight them. Belts being attacked not by the resedient pirates, but the opposed empire security services. npc invasion fleets hitting opposing factions - not just pirate police conflicts but empires verse empires.
Right now anyone of us would betray our agent/faction for a new shiney bit of kit. Would a minmatar player take that Slaver he just captured into Amarr space for 2million isk? Right now my consideration would be - how many jumps - I can take a 0.02 drop in my standings. Shouldn't I care more about betraying my agent?
Aliens have been used in sci-fi before often as something to kill. They aren't human, so you can feel nothing for them. Mindless robots to kill. Easy to de-humanise an alien... Interlectually I like the shades of grey that eve offers.

Oh, oh, this is about -psychologically- alien beings? Like the Jove? Well, alien life is apparently possible, since Long Limb/Fedo/Etc and a number of other creatures don't seem to be terrestrially derived. If alien life does exist, I see no reason there couldn't be another sentient race in the eve cluster. At this juncture though, they should have already been encountered, and would very likely to have too low tech to have had an effect. My thought is that there 'were' BEM's or ancients or precursors or what have you, but they've moved on, whether by mass migration, extermination, hiding, or evolution to a 'higher plane'.
Looking at the stonehenge and other oddities of space, it seems likely there may very well have been some 'precursor' race, though perhaps not very impressive technologically.
In the eve cluster's 'dark ages' any non-human race might have been exterminated completely by any number of the isolated human colonists. The Amarr might have wiped out the remnants starfaring race as 'demons' then covered it up or converted it into more flowery terminology. Hell, they might still exist, but are kept in a Jove Sanctuary well behind their picket lines.
Lotta possibilities that would work with the current storyline without being overtly contrived.

As to 'needing aliens' ...
Well, they're hallmark both Space Opera and Scifi (and I do differentiate between them) genres, which Eve certainly falls within.
They're not necessary to Eve, (nothing is really, in a world with the vision of a few select creators/authors) but they could add dimension and flavor, eventually, to the tapestry, especially as an element of Man versus the Unknown.
Currently the ideas seem to be Man -as- Alien. The themes being, are we even all still human anymore? With cloning, cybernetic implants, death being a rare commodity only reserved for the middle and lower classes, and a few rich Amarr at the top of the food chain, Jove body modifications, rogue drones, you are your ship once you jack into your pod, etc.
There's enough to go on there, to explore there, for awhile ... but that doesn't mean there's no room for the utterly unrelated sentient lifeform later on, and I for one, would welcome a well thought out background storyline on the ghosts of the Eve cluster.
Archeology as a skill maybe? Trade, illegal and otherwise, in art objects, technology from the creators of Stonehenge, etc? Just some thoughts.

How about this...
Alien races from the non-binary systems of the galaxy. According to the technology descriptions I have read, the stargates require binary star systems to work. (why we don't see two stars in any systems is another question altogether though) This requirement should leave four or five times as many star systems interspersed with the ones we see active in the map section. The aliens could come from these singular star systems and their jump technology could be based on that instead of needing two stars for a gate. They could have recently developed new technology that allows them to jump into binary systems and...holy cow...those are inhabited by us. Add a little story line to the mix and we could have both friendly and unfriendly NPC alien races. Put some ancient mythology in the mix and then we would have a much richer game and an explanation for future game expansion to the "singular systems".
Might sound a little campy, but most ideas are at birth.
