Edited by: Hakera on 02/08/2004 01:23:20 Whatya think - I think there is a definite case for some nasty alien types to show their faces?
Maybe not as players (unless you count Josh) but I think it would be a new slant on the human bloodlines we have now.
maybe npc entities as well?

I agree, we need aliens. It would be great if aliens randomly attacked the miners and npc hunters, boarded your ship, sucked your brains out and caused you to lose skill points.

Ore thiefs and trolls do that already..
Lets see:
Amarr - Self proclaimed superior to other races with an ego that could alter the orbital cycle of the planets within a solar system.
Minmatar - Habitually slaves of the above, they love to build ships off junk.
Caldari - They like to build ships and weapons of mass-destruction and build very practical stuff overall.
Gallente - Hippies,mostly french,from outer space.
Really, what else would fit in Eve?Jovians are already on the way,and I sense they will be a mix of amarr-caldari for that matter.

V'rix made E&B difficult for new players and i think the samme would happen in EVE
on the other hand having the NPC pick up the slack and attack the aliance players in 0.0 that have bad standings with them could add some spice to EVE
or have a new threat attack the Jove and the Jove would need the players help so they would have to open their gates to let us all in
Think the V'rix from E&B,the Dominien (and Borg) from Star Trek and the Replicaters from Stargate SG-1
it would add some spice to the game

Well, for each their own. For me, it became a hobby to research V'rix talk trees (especially in the beggining, when all they were saying were strange mathematicalformulas) and to try to put sense into whatever they started to talk about. Their mythological references brought drama into whatever they said. --------------

THe alien thing is never done properly. IMO, and I really dont want EVE to be ruined by little green men.

My hand made mannequin. i won't let them get you. they'll know you're mine by the fingerprints on your throat. isn't she lovely? isn't she wonderful? like the *****s that we are, swatting flies from the wounds we design. |

hmm my problem was i was low level at the time when they where intreduced
I would try to kill something and acidently hit the lvl 60 V'rix needless to say they slaughtered me i would get a JS and the V'rix would instakill me again very frustrating
they where interesting to an extend though the way they talked etc etc however another thing that bothered me was they would scan me and screw up my systems or lock me in convo mode with the damn things
I might just have had rotten luck with them

Well they did have cloaking technology way before us. They also already have jumpdrives in use.
I think maybe they sould set up a story of some big-time jove guy, right? Maybe he goes to Amarr space for some event or something. You know someone will assasinate him. Someone in an alliance maybe? Maybe one of the dev's who's alt is in one could talk their CEO's into doing it. *wink wink nudge nudge*
Anyway, Jove retaliate. We have an actual war. Anyone can join in. Get some decent RP going. It's not just some crap you read on the news page, it's something you can actually take part in. You could pretty much do anything so long as the players are involved and it actually has an effect on the long term.
I think it would be cool if the devs and aurora team, as well as other teams, actually play *with* and *against* the players in a fair way. (no magic heal buttons and no uber cutsum ships. )
Anyway, I think the story line is pretty much lacking. But I, again, don't think we need to bring in aliens hehe. I'm scared they'll mess it up or something. It'll be taken too far. Start to get ridiculously silly.. etc etc.

for god's sake, NO.
for once there's some sci-fi where the aliens are *us*. humans having evolved into different subspecies but still easily recognizable as humans. not that i am opposed to aliens in sci-fi, it's just that when something different comes along, you should keep it different.

Exactly. This is a grown up game you damn EnBers! You like the replicators from Stargate? Go fight some rogue drones. You want something inhuman? Go fight the android/zombies in Sansha's Nation.

I think that's what roleplayers do
We should get us some of them cuddle creatures from that starwars movie (them bears with spears), and make em uber miners (maybe paint em girly colours too). Then we'd have ourselves something to shoot at allright. _______________________________________________

There were way to many silly space critter in E&B for me. It really killed they story and atmosphere in general and made it hard for me to get immersed. If we had an alien invasion, I would like it to be more like the drakh in B5, where they try to subvert our governments into full fledged war and then bask in our ruins. If the ancients or any new species came along, I would like it to be WAY down the road and VERY well planned out. I am quite happy with the current environment at the moment.

for those who do not know:
Thargoids were aliens from the original Space-Trading-Mining-Combat game - Elite (Iain Bell/Acornsoft 1983)
Without which Eve would never exist.
They used to knock you out of warp in deep space and kick the sh1te out of you... and they dropped rare loot :-) ~~~~)\~~~~~\o/~~~~

"No aliens, nevar!"
I disagree...
I don't want goofy EnB MOB's, but more humanoid races to interact with besides human derivatives would be awesome.
It could be a great expansion to the game.
The Minmatar working on a new type of stargate, accidentialy open up a portal to another dimension... Interaction with both benign & malevolent humanoid species... Some wanting peace & trade, others wanting blood & domination of the EVE universe...
It could be done in a way that would give a lot of the PvE folks more of what they want out of this game...
But I doubt CCP will do it, PvE is too much work for them...

Even if such a thing would happen (which I highly doubt) it'll at least take a few years to conceive of a storyline to do it (a non-cheesy one) and to implement it.
Personally, I think new pirate organisations and new bloodlines (Khanid!) is the way to go.
If it's PvE you want, I hear those rogue drones are scary lil buggers.

Edited by: Nostradamu5 on 02/08/2004 12:34:25 Why do I seem to be the only one who ever read how the EVE gate closed?
Now lets think carefully the builders of the gate are on the earth side, for all you know they may be building another gate or that first wormhole may return.
Will we appear as aliens to them? Are there Jovians still in earth sector?
Stop griping about server instability and go buy an EVE mug!
Additionally with the purchase of each mug you will receive two(2) invisible Elves.

Every Alien "Group" added to one of these games always comes out looking like a guy in a rubber suit.
- They have the same motivations as humans.
- They behave in a similiarly violent fashion as humans.
- They generally have an understandable and relateable background story as humans.
So, why not just keep them as humans. Jove seems good enough to me...basically they are the Aliens just without the suits.
Now, if Aliens could be created that were actually "Alien", that would be a neat trick. Problem is, the people who create them and the people who play against them would be human so they would have to be tailored for humans. Really, an Alien Space ship with all the armor of a Sponge and with the overwhelming desire to sit in deepspace and make bubbles out of fungus, simply to stare at them with their sensors, would be kinda dull to play against...though truly alien. ______________ "I Type with my Tongue" |

ROGUE DRONES are alien and apparently in SHIVA.
What else are they but the precursor of some gigantic machine intelligent civilisation that is operating just beyond the boundaries of human knowledge.
And when the ickle drones stuffed with minerals start getting blown up by greedy pilots - who knows what the consequences may be.
Could we be starting a cataclysmic human vs machine war?

Hey the Jove is just fine (or a rogue faction of the Jove)
their tech is better then our (a must for any war) they are dying (meaning there are fewer of them then us) the point is just that we need something to come in and stir up the EVE universe (basicly a war) the V'rix the way they where intreduced to E&B was just one way to do it they where only unfriendly if you started firing on them (something i would love to see with certain types of NPC Pirates in EVE) they talked funny (took some figuring out what they where trying to say) and was a pain in the ass if they became hostile
even having a NPC (Pirate) group really pick up and start attacking aliance players in force in some of the controlled systems works for me as we players are invading "their" space again they should only make a effort to oust the aliance players that dont have good standings with them
just basicly something to spice up EVE

Ditto, I know Eve is an online game and that it's all about the human interaction and so forth but really...whatÆs the story?
There's some news which sets the tone a bit and some lovely short stories and chronicles but what's currently happening in the Eve universe outside of the corporations? Nothing. It would be nice to have some overall storyline that we can become involved in as well as all the missions, hunting, mining runs, corporate wars and so forth.
I've never played Anarchy Online (although I picked up a free thirty day demo last week which IÆll give a go) but I've read that the updates/expansions packs add new story elements and the upcoming expansion is all about a huge alien invasion. I'm still not partial to the idea of aliens in Eve but some type of event/story/plot arc would be nice.

Sorry guys... going to drift alittle off topic and maybe wildly vear back on toopic.
Why do you need aliens? Is it because they are fricken cool? If so I can agree with those who've said eve's back story is cool enough. It doesn't need aliens. I'll also agree that aliens with 'human' motives are weak. I'd actually like the idea of just things turning up with sponges for armour sitting in deep space. Agent missions to find an survey and the like.
If they are needed because of conflict. No - I'd actually like to see more of the in game conflicts used. Where an Amarr NPC corp is automatically at war with a Minmatar one. The back story is there - but isn't used enough. Many players know that conflict - but what of the Caldari-Gallante conflict?
Alliances in 0.0 either having to befriend the rats, or fight them. Belts being attacked not by the resedient pirates, but the opposed empire security services. npc invasion fleets hitting opposing factions - not just pirate police conflicts but empires verse empires.
Right now anyone of us would betray our agent/faction for a new shiney bit of kit. Would a minmatar player take that Slaver he just captured into Amarr space for 2million isk? Right now my consideration would be - how many jumps - I can take a 0.02 drop in my standings. Shouldn't I care more about betraying my agent?
Aliens have been used in sci-fi before often as something to kill. They aren't human, so you can feel nothing for them. Mindless robots to kill. Easy to de-humanise an alien... Interlectually I like the shades of grey that eve offers.

Oh, oh, this is about -psychologically- alien beings? Like the Jove? Well, alien life is apparently possible, since Long Limb/Fedo/Etc and a number of other creatures don't seem to be terrestrially derived. If alien life does exist, I see no reason there couldn't be another sentient race in the eve cluster. At this juncture though, they should have already been encountered, and would very likely to have too low tech to have had an effect. My thought is that there 'were' BEM's or ancients or precursors or what have you, but they've moved on, whether by mass migration, extermination, hiding, or evolution to a 'higher plane'.
Looking at the stonehenge and other oddities of space, it seems likely there may very well have been some 'precursor' race, though perhaps not very impressive technologically.
In the eve cluster's 'dark ages' any non-human race might have been exterminated completely by any number of the isolated human colonists. The Amarr might have wiped out the remnants starfaring race as 'demons' then covered it up or converted it into more flowery terminology. Hell, they might still exist, but are kept in a Jove Sanctuary well behind their picket lines.
Lotta possibilities that would work with the current storyline without being overtly contrived.

As to 'needing aliens' ...
Well, they're hallmark both Space Opera and Scifi (and I do differentiate between them) genres, which Eve certainly falls within.
They're not necessary to Eve, (nothing is really, in a world with the vision of a few select creators/authors) but they could add dimension and flavor, eventually, to the tapestry, especially as an element of Man versus the Unknown.
Currently the ideas seem to be Man -as- Alien. The themes being, are we even all still human anymore? With cloning, cybernetic implants, death being a rare commodity only reserved for the middle and lower classes, and a few rich Amarr at the top of the food chain, Jove body modifications, rogue drones, you are your ship once you jack into your pod, etc.
There's enough to go on there, to explore there, for awhile ... but that doesn't mean there's no room for the utterly unrelated sentient lifeform later on, and I for one, would welcome a well thought out background storyline on the ghosts of the Eve cluster.
Archeology as a skill maybe? Trade, illegal and otherwise, in art objects, technology from the creators of Stonehenge, etc? Just some thoughts.

Alliances in 0.0 either having to befriend the rats, or fight them. Belts being attacked not by the resedient pirates, but the opposed empire security services. npc invasion fleets hitting opposing factions - not just pirate police conflicts but empires verse empires.

How about this...
Alien races from the non-binary systems of the galaxy. According to the technology descriptions I have read, the stargates require binary star systems to work. (why we don't see two stars in any systems is another question altogether though) This requirement should leave four or five times as many star systems interspersed with the ones we see active in the map section. The aliens could come from these singular star systems and their jump technology could be based on that instead of needing two stars for a gate. They could have recently developed new technology that allows them to jump into binary systems and...holy cow...those are inhabited by us. Add a little story line to the mix and we could have both friendly and unfriendly NPC alien races. Put some ancient mythology in the mix and then we would have a much richer game and an explanation for future game expansion to the "singular systems".
Might sound a little campy, but most ideas are at birth.

Some sort of slug that eats your brain would also be cool.
Oh and i think there was supposed to be aliens ingame but the ship designer got really fed up after doing sanhas and said lets do pirates...pirates = gud!

We could introduce a race of humanoids, with a ridge on their nose, that speak perfect english! And we could call them... something with a ' in the name, and a letter such as V or X that is near the end of the alphabet. ------------

We dont need aliens, eve is ment to be alien free anyway... what we need is the jovians to go kick someones ass and for minmatar + amarrian relations to degrade into open war so we can go shoot amarrian police n concord wont turn up and pop us. Maybe Caldari will get fed up of the Gallente and go give them a kickin 2

the biggest problem with a real war (empire versus empire) would be the Noob's as we dont want Noobs Pod killed just because they can be a Noob tag timer (like a month) where the noob can not attack or be attacked might solve that
either way EVE needs spice

How about trying something completely different:
Aliens of relatively advanced technology are discovered in newly charted Star Systems.
A. They lack any motivation or genetic programming to ever leave their homesystem/planet. Which would allow:
1. Commericial missions of trade with the Aliens 2. Story Lines where the Amarr decide to "Enlighten" these new folks and the Minmatter protest...with guns 3. Smuggling
or
B. They lack the technology to leave their homeworld / system, which could lead to:
1. Conquest of the poor undeveloped, a.k.a. Colonialism 2. Diplomatic / Commerce missions 3. Research related missions as no one has a clue how to communicate with these idiots 4. Maybe they taste good. (That would add a moral dilema
