I press ESC, and them General Settings and i select and the in Context menu and I select the font size 12 and font width Expanded, but is to small it is really hard to play eve online. I have a monitor that runs at 2560 x 1600 and I can barely read the text on the menus . This problem has been reported to you before by many people and it is high time that this gets taken care of. I will be canceling my account and will return once you decide to get this taken care of. How is it possible that your game as small letter 12 size UI font for 6 years? your interface look very prehistoric, i think the DOS 6.22 fonts look better

Use a proper resolution. Not every piece of software operates under such a high resolution. Eve is a perfect example, if you needed one. |

I have the same problem as the OP, and I'm running a 1280x1024 resolution. It was the first problem I noticed with EvE when I first logged in. The font is tiny.
The ancient UI is to blame, and I often wonder why this still hasn't been addressed. |

Negative, that is inaceptable, i cant down to lower resolution because my native default is 2560 x 1600 if i change my screen resolution in my apple cimena 30 inches 1024 x 768 or other the image looks will blurred and any way how i can play lord of the rings, world of warcraft , anarchy online all onlines game you can set the font size with any nice size, but eve online you cant

I tried the 14 day trial and really like the game. I like it enough to consider subscribing but after a couple hours searching on the forums and google searches I don't think its going to happen. The only place you can change your font size is the chat window, that's it. Everyone cries on the official forums about cheating when someone mentions anything about changing the UI, but font size == cheating? LOL, talk about a bunch of mis-informed dolts, you would think I asked where to download plans to destroy the Death Star.
It's really too bad. I play on a 19" monitor at 1440x900 resolution, if I go to a lower res then all the graphics don't fit on screen and look like over-sized garbage. At least a UI scale slider or a font scale changer could go a long way in this game.
Just my 2 cents.
this guy dont have a 30 inches monitor and have the same problem only in 1440x900 screen

Hello,
I just got done reading a post about font size in Eve. I tried to post a reply to the post, but it has since been locked, so I'll post it here because I think it is relevant. Here is the link to that post:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/evethesecondgenesis/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-44081547&pid=430571
Here is the reply I had planned to post to that topic.
I wholeheartedly agree with the original poster. I think that CCP ought to add settings to increase the font size of all of the text in the game. The reason for this is simple. I have a very large screen. Consequently, I sit much further back from it than most people do from their computer screens.
I really, really like EvE. I just cannot comfortably play it without sitting right up close to my large screen. I have tried to ignore this and play anyway. I'd rearrange my whole gaming setupůmove my big giant recliner chair forward, adjust my screen res to some oddly low number (which totally wastes my high-end gfx cards and other equipment). I'd get two instances up and go mining and the like in low sec or run missions with my fighter dude. It was fun, but what a pain in the butt.
I finally just got sick of it and stopped playing. I tried like the OP did to find a font size solution but there didn't seem to be one. I found a bunch of threads like this one where someone might mention something about font-size and get shot down and told to stop whining, or that they were dumb because they wanted larger font size. But I never found a solution.
Suffice it to say, that CCP won't be getting my $30+ whatever a month (for multiple instances) until they fix the font size issue. I am not whining either. I am serious about my gaming, and have invested a lot of cash in my cool large screens and expensive graphics cards just to play games like this in high resolution. I do not want to have to be held up by something as dumb as font size. I have played just about every game out there, I mean really, and this is probably one of the only ones that I actually stopped playing because of something like this. (Oh, and multiple monitor support would rock too). It is too bad really, I really liked playing this game. Maybe someday they'll fix this.
Stand tall OP. I think you are right about this!
if this guy have 1440 x 900 screen and cant see fine the IU interface , for me 2560 x 1600 is a super microscopic all icons and letters,
maybe if i set my screen monitor in 800 x 600 maybe i can play we are in year 2009, and the most lcd monitor are better and have high screen resolutions is time the ccp find a solution to this problem

So you want a UI update for the 0.001% of players that run such a high resolution and are too stubborn to change? ------------------------------------

Yeah, OP's got bad eyesight, or at least not adjusted for big monitors. But- if CCP wants to sell a game to people with bad eyesight then they will add features to help them, the development of which will cost money. apply this to a law of diminishing returns graph and see the number of features you can pay programmers to make and maintain, and how much money those individual features bring in.
how far are you sitting from this monitor? the best viewing distance for 30" screens is 6 inches, you know.
also, i think its karma. just the universe getting back at you for getting a cinema display :P |

It is a "proper" resolution. I think it's even HDTV standard. It's also something you absolutely cannot change: You cannot run a flatscreen in a non-native resolution without completely sacrificing image quality (and font readability -> back to square one).
Originally by: NightF0x So you want a UI update for the 0.001% of players that run such a high resolution and are too stubborn to change?
I wouldn't exactly call someone stubborn because he doesn't want to downgrade a probably somewhat expensive display to some crappy crt monitor, just so he can read fonts in eve. It is however stubborn to keep playing the fanboy and defend a completely outdated user interface that would not even pass a 10 year old HIG test. Especially when you know it.
Fact is, the eve UI is years behind. It is slow (don't bother blaming it on my pc), unresponsive during session changes (pretty big issue since "jumping" isn't exactly something you only do once in a while) and completely lacks scaling options. You can argue all you want how you think it is fine and how you can workaround this or that issue. It is not fine. It is a misrepresentation of all the hard work CCP has put into this game and a serious showstopper for a lot of new players.
It's also something CCP isn't completly unaware of, as the next content patch will supposedly include several improvements to the user interface (see dev blogs and ccp youtube videos). Maybe it even includes larger fonts, who knows... |

12 dpi font size is, is tooo small, how is possible some people here defend this UI interface settings size!! The new standard in monitor are not 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768, the new standard in the monitors are in LCD 1920 X 1080 HDMI , and 1440x900 DVI

19 monitor inches 1440 x 900 that is not a super monitor and the most people can buy one, Eve online the best space gamming MMO, With ultra graphics special effects with a Interface worse than PC SHELL DOS 6.22 fonm from 1980 years
i think the UI interface never exit from phase alfa or beta when the eve begins in the market released in North America and Europe in May 2003

It doesn't matter if someone has bad eyesight or if someone can read it perfectly well at the same resolution. Why not give the option to select a bigger font? Don't use it if you don't need it.
This could help those that actually have bad eyesight as well as those that just wants a larger font.
I don't understand why people need to shoot down all suggestion in here.
I support this option.

AFAIK CCP is working on an UI overhaul. I have seen posts from Devs here and there about this (just don't ask me to link them). It is a long standing issue with EVE and they know it.
At least wait till March 10 for the new expansion, if nothing happens then cancel sub. --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

I'll add my comment here:
I love this idea, I tried to play this off and on since the game came out, but short bursts of play was all that I could handle - it wasn't until I bought a 32 high res TV, and set the resolution to as low as it would go, and the text to as large and wide as it would go before the game was comfortable to play.
I'm playing like a mad man now, and loving it! It's a pity that this issue wasn't one of the first 'features' worked, on - CCP would have had my money coming in steady for years! (most likely on multiple accounts, because that's how I play.)
It is only now that I am enjoying the game, and a HUGE part of that reason is that I don't have to put my face right up in front of the monitor and squint just to read the little text.
and it's a HUGE shame that I have to play this game at the lowest resolution that it will handle, just so I can get the UI Readable. All this work goes into improving the grafix, and it's wasted on the fact that I'm using such a low res.
so, for sure I vote please find a fix for this!

Now that has been said, I would too like to be able to change my font size in more than just the chat windows. I mean, why the hell not? |

@ a friends house I even play on 1600x1200 while 1280x1024 is the max res for their screen (19") and I still can see everything properly, be it smaller then usual Cheers, Faros

Running eve on 1280x1024 on a 19 inch 4:3 screen... And seriously, I don't see the problem... I can read everything perfectly, as for chat - I just pressed the enlarge button for the text to be able to read it when further away from the screen...

Probably that you people either do not read or do not comprehend.

As has been explained before, you cannot go above or below the native resolution of a flatscreen without seriously reducing image quality and make text even less readable. |

Eve has very robout protection against client "hacks". Including blocking the font mods which ~25% of the community used until the "fix" of several months ago.
Funny, the devs stopped giving the resular monthly ever-higher subscription counts after that. One might even think that the default font was poor...

I run 1920x1200 on a 24" monitor, which is approximately equivalent to 2560 x 1600 on a 30". The fonts look absolutely fine to me on 10 point, normal width. They actually look huge if I set them to 12 point expanded. Maybe you're sitting too far back from the screen. Try moving closer.

negative 1920 x 1200 is not similar to 2560 x 1600 youre wrong. in 1920 x 1200 is small and in 2560 x 1600 the fonts is microscopic small
