Not something you would see in the game but it is an interesting concept. Allow drones a 0.09% chance of going rouge, with having that percentage increase if drones are left orbiting your ship unattended for extended periods of time or if they are constantly damaged.
You could also have the abandoned drones go rouge after a certain amount of time. This would give an added element of surprise to the game. However, having several packs of T2 Heavies roaming level 1 security systems would not do anyone any good. But having the local concord security force limit the type of drones to roam free in certain security ratings would take care of that. You might find T1 and T2 Small Scouts in a 0.7 and Heavies in 0.5 and lower.
Well it's an Idea. |

Great idea, adds a very fun element to the game, more randomness and excitement :D |

I like it, I really do. There are many people that scan and pick up lost drones from missions but adding those drones to threats for miners and pilots is interesting. Drones are often overlooked but with this element drones would be much more of an x factor. Imagine miners with 5 t1 drones orbiting all day on a Saturday, until now, those drones attack the hulk and make things interesting, no ship loss but a spark of excitement. There is also the option then to abandon drones to hurt others later....interesting indeed....

if they are damaged something could break in them and they may turn on there master, but other than that abandoning remote control drones does not suddenly give them advanced AI and warp capability's... i just don't think its a very balanced/good idea since its not fun to see things u paid isk for just start shooting you when u leave them orbiting you for just a little to long.

Awww, and while you're at it, give us drone food and a happyness bar....
Sorry, coulnd't help it. Anyways, I like your idea.

I would love to go out search for rouge drones and them taming them to become mine...
The first drone I tame will be a Furby-like-pet, and I shall call him Fluffy McFluffenstein.

I don't know about you... but I hate when my drones start wearing makeup.

Ya not going to happen... :P
Think about it if some one wanted to have some fun he would just abandon 100's of drones in belts or other places to kill people. O.O Image coming through a gate and there's a swarm of them ready to attack you, then mix that in with an arazu who can keep his distance and uncloak to warp jam the target when the drones lock him there would be nothing you could do and get wtfpwned!
Not to mention the lag that would probably come from doing this... >.>

Better Idea. How about they make the drone dislike bright lights and also, water makes them multiply and if they eat after midnight they transform into rouge! |

Love the idea. I agree in a sense on the sproutidea,, but only to the point that that could increase the probability. Also the idea that something could cause it (damage beyond a certain degree, that ain't repped) is cool imho.
Overall, good idea, that could be worked on in my eyes :) !

You know, after the last chron, I sent the same message to another board, except properly (in binary).
Mostly the idea doesn't really make sense, and drones that are abandoned for long times are simply destroyed. Advanced drones (since some use some of the rogue drone components?) would have a logical reason to "turn feral". Perhaps this could be one of the special abilities for the rogue drones on rogue drone encounters, not sure how that would be implemented, though.

I'd say YES. If it only happens in the drone regions, or more specifically, when fighting Rogue Drones. The captured drones would have to vanish after a limited amount of time (to prevent sploiting). It would enforce different fighting styles in the drone regions compared to other 0.0 areas (although other regions would need similar "disadvantages" so that there's less imbalance). I'd say work it in with drone heat, give them a advanced drone ai chip that will slowly build intelligence until it goes rouge. You can replace the ai out in space and reboot the drone or do a full clean in station. |

Edited by: z0de on 03/02/2009 14:21:28 its bad enough with:
Disconnecting causing them to be lost Drones that go too fast to return to drone bay Gateguns shooting drones Drones that ignore what you tell them to shoot Drones that start shooting one thing then swap of their own accord No Implants too boost drones Not many mods too boost drones
Now you want drones to suddenly attack their owner as well? No thanks. Maybe if it only happens to drones which have right-click abandoned or to drones whos owner exploded. Anything else is too much.

Early on, I actually already thought that rogue drones were just drones that people had left out in asteroid belts. How cool that would be. |

I say - no.
Unless we make also a 0.09% chance of guns just falling apart when they are shooting...
Drones ships have a hard job any way, t2 drones are expensive. It's good as it is. If you want to implement such a thing, do it in some 0.0 region and see how people react. I'm sure that within a short period of time there would be no drone boats in that one region. |
