Building a corporation and alliance takes years of hard work by many people. If the disbandment of Bob by one person stands then every corporation and alliance has to fear the same fate.
Why then should anyone spend the time and effort to build large organizations?
Something has to be changed to prevent this in the future. A simple fix would be requiring a week countdown for corporation disbandment and month countdown for alliance. It is not rocket science...

The way you prevent this is either don't give out director roles. Or don't treat your members so badly that they'll take everything and disband your alliance.
The measures to prevent this already exist in the game. Seriously, who would trust anyone in eve? http://obeythekitten.com/ |

Edited by: Daoi Sith on 05/02/2009 07:29:12 i agree. the mechanic should be changed to a vote system or whatever makes sense.
however, the button has been there for ??years??
why didnt anyone notice or care before it was bob that got pwned ?
"The executor of an Alliance is given the authority to act on behalf of the Alliance in all matters. This authority is subject to review by the Alliance council. The limitation to a single executor simplifies the operation of the Alliance system, however it also places a great deal of responsibility on the member corporations to oversee the actions of the executor. At present there is no formal alliance-wide voting system on Alliance actions and policies in place, and while this is in development the use of a single executor corporation offers a suitable workaround when combined with the Declaration of Executor Support."

This kind of thing can happen to corporations in the real world the same way. All it takes is one disgruntled person with all the passwords/access to make a giant mess of things.
EDIT: Barring publicly owned corporations, of course. But the lapse of security isn't the game's fault, it's BoB's.
Well run corporations usually pay the guys with the passwords/access obtuse amounts of money + whatever else they want so they don't do that kind of stuff though. |

Yep Tokenda and that's why CCP won't save BoB, however I do believe the ex BoB corps will reform as a new alliance.

which kind of proves the point that it was lax security, not metagaming or exploits.
it was KNOWN that it could be done easily. so be extra careful with those directorships.
all the claims of metagaming, exploits, etc is so much BS.
EvE is harsh. you take away the harshness, you lose what makes it so renowned and so different from other games.

I'll be surprised if this doesn't bring a future change, kinda like Privateers changed the war dec rules with their actions. Most likely it'll be a vote in the future if CCP can figure out how.
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts.

yep, ccp should take actions against that exploit. you even have to wait 24 hours if you want to delete a character.

I agree with the OP, BOB was created as am sure we are all aware, well before it made sense to use an exec corp to create an alliance. There are some big alliances out there who also didnt use an exec corp create the alliance, i'd be a bit worried if i were them, and generally all alliances have to fear copycat attempts.
Some people have said you need to be more careful who u give roles too, but tbh how do u check if someone is lying and are using a different account? - Eve needs a certain level of trust in order for people to work together, and for alliances especially on that kind of level to work. |

It's shockingly easy to prevent alliances being disbanded in this manner - all it takes is for a CEO to create an alt corp and shunt the executorship over to it. |

Considering it takes 24hrs to boot a player from your corp if they have roles, it seems somewhat simplistic that any director can just kick corps and then close alliance.
While the mechanic is not to blame, I'm sure it could be improved.
