I tend not to think of carebears as selfish, but rather, stupid, and with poor knowledge of game mechanics and game risks. That's not to say there aren't idiotic PvPers with limited knowledge of the game but usually once you start participating in PvP you learn mechanics and typical behaviors of others out of necessity (or you're doomed to suck at PvP forever, which is quite possible).
Most new players start as carebears, I did. But I went out of my way to understand aggression, sentry guns, CONCORD, Faction Police and etc. All those things are more complex now and there are a lot more people in the game. Don't get me wrong, I have sympathy for newer players who are just starting to navigate the world of Eve game mechanics and the hostile tactics of others. What I don't have sympathy for are ******s with 5.0 sec status who pack all their worldly possessions into a Freighter and then autopilot through low sec, or who remote rep an NPC in their uber complex fitted faction ships- and then are BAFFLED by the results. I kill indiscriminately but I'm more likely to laugh at you if you're a proven idiot rather than a hapless noob. |

Carebears are people who live in the relative safety of NPC involvement and no risk player interaction.
Its the same for every game.
