What is the best sustainable tank I can squish out of a battlecruiser or battleship preferable of either Gallente or Minmatar type? I do not need any damage just the ability to survive some heavy fire.
Thanks in advance. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

Gallente, use a Domi. They got the easiest tank to sustain (perma dual rep)
Minny....eh...tank isn't really their thing unless someone knows something I don't.
I would go get a drake if you just want to soak up damage. A drake is almost completely immune to nos/nuet and will give you just as good or close numbers to a dual reppering BS if you're talking about missions.

Rokh, if you don't need to worry about DPS then you can fit an absurd tank.. --

Try out a scorpion in EFT. The results will surprise you. It's far better than a Rokh.(more midslots) Obviously use all tank stuff in the mids, and cap stuff in the lows.
Domi does make a great tank ship that can do useful stuff as well as tank..But it's tank will be inferior to the scorp.

Hyperion gets a rep bonus and along with rep rigs, implants and boosters is rather uber. |

Depends, if it's something that you CAN tank, like another ship, NPCs or a small gang, then a shield booster such as the Maelstrom would do good, it's got a hell of a tank.
If it's a fleet that has DPS you know you won't be able to active tank, you may consider pretty much any of the Gallante BSes fit with a huge armor buffer. |

Give more specifics.
Is this for bait? If so - you need tackle to keep your target stuck while they're trying to break you.
- You need point - web - cyno.
Is this against a large group or a small group?
Small group - an active tank is better. Dual Large armor rep Hyperion is easily fit to tank 1000 dps as long as it has cap charges. Fit faction gear and exile boosters and you can easily get better results.
Larger group? Multiple BS attacking you (over 6000 dps concentrated on you). Go with an Abbaddon - resist bonus + plates + faction reisst mods + slave set = 300,000 effective HP. Easy enough to get 40-50 thousand armor with resists in the upper 80's.
Don't go with shield tankers.
You need mid slot tackle gear to keep the target stuck.
I think a Rokh is superior to a Scorpion because of higher base stats and higher resists. Point is moot if you have to fit tackle gear.
Small groups - Hyperion Large Groups - Abaddon |

Edited by: Contralto on 05/02/2009 17:42:54 If its for Lvl V mission tanking.
Fully passive Tanked Vulture (thinking Lvl V Dedicated tanker/gang booster/salvager)
Note the warfare link won't work if fitted to the Tanker and the Cap is Nueted completely.
These setups are against Serpentis. against Angels is lower, against Caldari is higher. ( with correct hardener fitted)
Basic Cheap T2 fit + full compensation skills = 2050 dps or with Shield Harmonizing warfare link and gang = 2,524 dps
5x Large Shield Extender II Heat Dissipation Amplifier II
4x Shield Power Relay II
2x Core Defence Field Purger I
------------------------------ same as above but with Pithum amp and T2 purgers = 2,497 dps, with Shield harmonizing warfare link and gang - 2872 dps
5x Large Shield Extender II Pithum A-Type Heat Dissipation Amplifier
4x Shield Power Relay II
2x Core Defence Field Purger II
------------------------------ Semi passive Vulture
Exchange to an active hardener Heat Dissipation Field
T2 hardener plus T1 purgers = 2172/2498 dps without/with warfare link
Dread Guristas Hardener plus T2 Purgers = 2472/2843 dps
Effective HP are 205k/238k without/with gang link.
I am using the above setup (T1 Purgers) on a Drake Tanker/salvager for lvl 4 missions, can tank any full stage aggro, in fact I just use a DG invul for all missions. Gank tank Kronos does the dirty work
Vulture has an appreciably stronger tank than the Drake due to higher base resists.

Edited by: Jowen Datloran on 05/02/2009 18:13:33 A bit more specifics; the ship has to stand still and have NPC pounding at it (no, no those advanced AI ones). As such speed will not be a beneficial factor. Also, the primary damage types will bet EM, kinetic and thermal damage.
I have been looking at the duel repper Domi, I just wonder how much dps it can really tank.
EDIT: Hm, the Hyperion looks like a possible option too. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

Edited by: pushdogg on 05/02/2009 19:38:57 im surprised no one has mentioned the damnation, with a LG slave set(since everyone is throwing around officer mods), i would assume this or a claymore would be extremely tanky. i would go with crystals for the claymore.
EDIT: sorry noticed gallente or minnie, i would say claymore or maybe an eos, but a maelstrom will tank alot aswell. best sig ever:)

Is this for tanking a 10/10 plex? Or a level V?
NPC neuts are a consideration.
Since tackling isn't your concern, I'd stick with a shield tank. You'd be amazed at how effective a buffer tank you can fit on an Onyx/Broadsword. |

I use either an Onyx or a Broadsword on my other character to tank. The Broadsword will do better if you have to tank against EM and are fitting it against NPCs but I have used the Onyx against Amarr NPCs and they do just fine.
I note that the OP was asking about BS and not T2 cruisers.

My vote would be Claymore or Broadsword, if it has to be Minmatar or Gallente. At least, if neuting is no concern. If neuting is a factor, either passive tank the claymore or better get a vulture. If remote rep is available, buffer tanked Damnation.

Rattlesnake can get a sick passive hands free tank.
412 dps (480 with drones and two rails) 90k ehp plus 257 passive peak shield regen.
The lazy mans fit but it requires Gallente and Caldari BS skills. |

Edited by: insulubria on 08/02/2009 14:59:47 when I do lvl 5's I use a NAVY RAVEN
With Missile Range rigs.
and 3 AN EANM 2 CN BCU
7x T2 siege 51km navy torps 71km javelin +/-
and A single Onearios.
That is how I did the last 5 Rouge Spys.
Anyhow, for you.. Gal/min
Well both have capless weapons..
drones/projectile
honestly You'll be Neuted. and cap 800's might run a booster/repper between neuts
but that'll drain you fast (drain you of cap charges), also purely passive hardeners and cap 400's might be better
thus try to Rep like less than a second after you inject.
and or try fitting 4 heavy nos and stay near some rats if you're alone, altho that would be very scetchy
honestly doing a lvl5 with 1 or 2 people is the best way to go, completely alone you'll need good skill(besides the kind you train) and or a REALLY good ship, like a Marauder, Kronos, HG slave set, dual inject.. 3 nos 4 blasters..
