"Atari has confirmed to Eurogamer that the box copy of EVE Online that it's releasing next month will come with a few exclusive perks.
The bonuses - usable by both new players and existing subscribers - include 60 days of game time, a special edition ship, a head-start in faction standings and an insider's guide to careers in the space MMO's persistent online universe." . . . The special edition ship will be a fast shuttle with increased cargo space. It's the first time CCP has offered an exclusive in-game ship through this kind of promotion, and is doubtless there to make the box appealing to existing players. . . . etc
Unconfirmed sources reveal that the new shuttle codenamed "pRANCER" will have 99% resists across the board for prancing around in lowsec and sightseeing in nullsec. |

I saw this in my box today from mmorpg, and I have to say I am greatly disappointed with ccp just on reading it.
The only way they can not lose face in my eyes is if the "special shuttle" is the apotheosis, and the faction boost thing happens to all players who do a starting agent mission.
Really, I love ccp (in a stockholm kinda way) but, If they give people **** for buying a box, I will be seriously disasappointed. Not mad, just disappointed.

It's pretty decent.
And as long as we can blow up any special perks anyone gets, I don't mind any of it =)
And about the faction standings, it's not exactly high requirements on it for existing players :) If it helps more people start playing eve, that we can blow up, so much the better!

Consider they are giving a item, not isk. And a item can always be blown up :)
And so what if they give some faction standing boost :) It will just tie people to their "race". I would assume that all new chars will just start with +1 to their faction from then on.

Well apparently eveything in the box is able to be applied to an existing account so its not really something that leaves out an established player. It looks like the box will be less than the price of a 60 day gtc so buy the box to fund your sub for two months and still get all the new shiney perks. |

I haven't seen a refutal, I've seen a "undecided". But it seems ATARI has confirmed it, and one would hope atari is in the know, as the boxes are quite likely already in production, and it would suck if the box art stated untrue things.

If Atari based the thing on the FIRST mockup, then I understand why they "confirmed it". The real box is much more sexy.
But given the fact that CCP has now implemented a "Redeem items" menu, maybe it IS true.

Doubtful. I'm going to buy the box to support CCP and have something neat to put on the shelf. I could care less about a special little ship. More, I hope this isn't a slipper slope thing. Maybe next edition there could just be a huge bad ass faction ship to entice people to dish out $50 or $60. And if you buy the collector's edition, maybe you just get a giant win button so you can skip all that crapp "gameplay" stuff... like grinding faction to begin FW.

I work in the game production business, and my experience tells me that the marketing campaign should be in full blast right about now, I mean for the box, not eve in general, so where is the real CCP sanctioned box info, trailers, awesome stats pages on why I should join this wonderful universe, etc etc.
La Vista could know, but he wouldn't tell I presume :) NDA n all that =)

Yep, 0.5. One combat storyline does that easily. Maybe 2 courier storylines, if they're especially gimp.
Seriously, if that counts as a lengthy grind in your world - you're not going to enjoy the timesink that is FW. |

Well now with the handy 'get into fw free card' I'll assume negative standing will have no effect so it can be a boon to someone in that situation if it works like that.. |

I'm not sure what you guys are smoking (or what I'm doing incorrectly), but after dozens of missions, my faction is perhaps 0.25 - and that's starting shortly after rolling the alt. Granted, I've never sought FW participation before, so maybe I am misunderstanding the requirement, but I don't think so. --

Spend some isk on cosmos agent and you are there immediatly, or do quickly some missions and get a storyline, really easy to do. ---------------------------------------------

Him having -5 is inconsquential (eww, bad sp?) as we are talking about new chars, not some bad ass pirates or mission runners for the "enemy" faction. And getting a faction from 0.0 to 0.5 *is* extremly easy. So, again, I don't understand the worry or whine about letting new players "choose race, then get those 0.5" for that chosen race. It's quite likely it will get integrated in the char creation process, so everyone making a new alt will be able to have it, old or new.
And for older players, I can't imagine many older players not having more then 0.5 standing with their "chosen" faction, ie, the one they've run mission for from time to time, and usually, even their "ally" faction aswell.

And to the redeem, this has been put in for the new PLEX. But who knows, as said by CCP itself: they aren't clear yet what goes with the box. But I don't mind if they get an extra shuttle, as someone else already said 'More stuff to blow up'. |

I think the reason people are complaining is because of the precedence these two examples set. That you can "jump in front" in EvE by throwing more money at CCP. |

Well doesn't work out to well though, new players start out with a bunch more skills then the time I started. Games evolve and CCP is trying to pull in newer players and that goes easier by easening the first steps. And nothing stops vets to buy the box, transfer that shuttle to their main and then just close down account.
Or if CCP is smart they would allow it even to use the codes of the bought box to upgrade existing accounts. Or sell serials that give the same bonus items for a lower price, but can only be used to upgrade existing payed accounts. Just look at how PlayNC does that with their City of Heroes title.

I suppose you don't know or don't remember the 10 missions story arc you got after leaving the school in the past (if you had done the tutorial and the mission for the station agent).
The version for the Gallente was for the Federal intelligence and at the end of the story arc you had about 1 faction standing with the Gallente Federation.
It was a "against other empires" mission, moving tampered fuels to sabotage a shuttle and kill a enemy pilot (Caldari from memory), substituting his clone with a Gallente agent.
So a starting mission with a good faction boost is nothing new.
That mission was offered only if you did all the tutorial and the mission for the starting station agent and was offered as a storyline mission (the agent would contact you and ask you to do it). So if you skipped it there was no way to get it back.
I suppose this will be the same thing. |

People have been paying CCP to jump in front by running multiple accounts for a very long time.
There's a reason why "reputable" game companies often ban multiple accounts right along side RMT.
But hey, the cash is flowing, so why stop now? Just good business, after all.
