I'd like to know which ship, probably ceptor, can reach the highest sustainable speed. I've heard about a ceptor that can maintain 25km/s but didn't remember the name. Are even higher, sustainable over longer periods, speeds possible?
Thanks.

Fastest ceptor as far as i know is a minmater Claw, i have a crow and you can easily sustain 3km/s as for 25k/s you'd probibly need high skills for that and a T2 cap recharger. I can get the crow up to those speeds but dual mwd's i just cant sustain it without running out of cap.

i was able to run a crusader with 2 mwd's. cap lasted a long time(if i remember correctly) but i have good skills for cap recharging and navigation.
I think i was travelling at over 20km/s

Just curious but whats the point of trying to get these speeds?
I can only think its for the hell of it as in travel and combat 3k+ usually suffices.

It will make travelling 8 times faster, and just in case you run into any blockades on the way, a fast lock + web and your stuffed otherwise. ------------------------------------------------ I've always owned Kehmor, cheap as chips off Ebay

Travel will be no quicker, I rarely reach 2k before I am jumping through a gate or docking at a station so saying it will be 8 times faster is rubbish. As for the lock and webbed on a blockade, there is no way if I am traveling that anyone will be able to lock and web me before I jump through a gate.
Getting a ship to 3-5k is all you need, anything more than this has no real viable use. Unless someone wants to prove me wrong.

Edited by: EggGirl on 04/08/2004 11:03:47 Just to add a bit more info for those not "in the know".
If someone has a safespot in a system and leaves unatended/empty ships there, these can be found by manaluy flying around using the scanner and directional jobby.
It requires a lot of effort, but can be done. The rewards can be high especialy if you find an empty BS. ;-)
This process of manualy flying around can be done much faster flying at 25kms than it can at 3kms. The distances that need to be covered at non warp speeds tend to be considerable.

I have neither the time or inclination to spend a large amount of time hunting them so never try. But, fair enough I accept I have been proved wrong in the use of super fast ships. As a combat pilot though when looking for a fight an empty ship will not fulfill my needs.

Thanks for the replies folks. Safespots are indeed the reason why I'm looking for these high speeds. If anyone knows an even faster ceptor than the crusader, Ý'd be happy to hear :-)

my crow can sustain something like 12ks however that was for a 100jump race setup and i dindnt want anything to kil myc ap for the warps
just thinking fo a setup in my head a crow could easily maintain 15-20ks if not more with cap afterburner and mwd skills at 5 __________________________________________________

I was recently able to get my claw just over 30 km/s sustainable. But this is with gang skills added in and 2 tech 2 1mn MWD's. And I had to stagger the MWD's or it wouldn't work.

Have you tried this w/ the crusader as well? Or anyone else? Would be very much interested how the crusader performs under same circumstances.

cheapest fastest maintainable ship:
slasher with 1 mwd and a power diag. over 3km/second. not much but for a ship that cheap, it's pretty amazing itself
never tried 2 mwd's and a cap relay... dunno if it works -------------------

A punisher with 3 to 4 cap relays can sustain dual mwd. They both have the same mid/low slot layout and cap so it shouldnt be an issue. ________________________________________________________

I have 23 km/s sustainable with my Claw. That's with 2 regular tech1 1MN MWDs and the low slots filled with CPRs. With Catalyzed Cold-gas arcjets, it should be 25-26 km/s (and less cap drain). |

I can get my claw to 3.2km/s (about that) sustanied.
Its enough for any battle, NPC, PVP.
You may get hit by the various blasters shooting at your rom a mega or something, but just go out a bit more (orbit range) and you'll be fine.
(2mwd's unsustained got me to 19km/s with standard mwd skills etc) ----------------------------------------
