I think it is also good to have a goal. Just not to make money to make money. But have a goal in mind. Mine was to be able to buy all high end implants then to buy a freighter and expensive skill books. This will cost hundreds of millions isk.
Have a goal in mind and it will direct you where you need to go. The eve market is very healthy and forgiving. Don't worry just dive in and it will take care of you if you do a little planning. |

On freighter ganks and being ****y:
Guys....seeing freighter cans in a system, while evidence of a freighter death, doesn't automatically mean it was a suicide gank - some freighters are in Alliances and are valid WT's. Can you verify that it was a suicide gank, and not a routine WT kill?
When I say I used to see evidence of freighter ganks, I mean freighter cans surrounded with a fuk-ton of Concord Police. I used to see them as often as one or two a week. And I always got quite a chill flying past those angry Concord swarms, knowing that a few hours ago some poor guy had a REALLY bad day. I've seen zero of them in the last six months since the patch. Zero. Nor have I ever heard of one happening, or seen a killmail.
Perhaps I just don't know where to look. I'm quite willing to be corrected on this point. It would be valuable news to me. Show me the money.
Until then, I still have the feeling that saying 'its possible' is misleading - as its like saying 'its possible that tomorrow the worlds oceans will turn to Jello.' Well, yes, its 'possible', but only if someone has several billion C-130's filled with cherry gelatin powder, engines idling, ready for takeoff.
I also understand that some gankers out there like the haulers to run scared, so they overstate the risks - to get a rise out of bears in the forums on the 'OMFG nerf suicide ganking' threads you used to see all the time. |

My goal is to make Rens a larger trading hub than Jita.

My personal opinion - that is a bad goal. Are you serious? I am done with helping in this thread as I can see it is leading no where.

um, yeah I'm mostly serious. I don't expect to achieve it but yeah. I want to, with others, change the dynamic of trading in the game. Jita doesn't need to be the largest hub. Of course I would need to spend a couple years working on this. -- autechre - ep7 - track 1: rpeg estevancarlos.com |

How can you have a goal to change the dynamic when you don't even understand the dynamic of eve trading?
I don't claim I understand it completely either, I am not even a month old! But there is in no way I am going to disillusion myself into thinking I can implement major shifts into the market when I haven't even got my nose wet yet.
That is why I doubt your overall seriousness within the business of trade. How can anyone claim they are going to change anything without experiencing it first hand? I suggest you slow down and don't worry about amatuerish dreams of glorifying your wallet by changing the market landscape quite yet....and go sell some ammo first. |

It will be the first I'd heard of it, and will I stand corrected.
1 week ago I saw one in Niarja (or something like it). System between Amarr and Jita I think. 8)]
as an example of a niarja freighter gank ---> http://www.battleclinic.com/eve_online/pk/view.php?type=player&name=Malarkey&id=5719286&page=1&filter=losses#mail they do certainly happen.

I seen alot of camps in 0.5 sec en route from Jita -> Amaar.
Had my cargo scanned many times, haven't been targeted yet.
Good idea is to put some noob items outside cargo container =)

Yeah, I was a bit curious about it myself. Also, the freighter was in a Player-corp, not an NPC corp. However, I've Evemailed the victim to find out a few details - if it was a suicide gank or just a WT getting ambushed. If it was a gank, I'm curious to hear about the makeup of the squad.

I just got it... And I mean, I just got it! The trick!
I've been trading for a bit, slowly gaining isk and understanding of the market. But frankly, I gained isk very slowly, and I was scratching my head as to why. Then, after reading this thread, it finally broke through to me. I have painstakingly been trading the "wrong" number of "wrong" items in the "wrong" way. But now when I just scanned the market for station trading and trade routes, I saw profit just about everywhere.
Now, I still have quite a few questions, and would there be any experienced traders, be it station trading or hauling, that would be willing to have a chat, be it in-game or out of game?

Edited by: Herr Wilkus on 11/02/2009 13:02:43 Let me guess - you were trading from sell orders in system A, to buy orders in system B? Yeah, thats how I saw it for the first couple weeks I played the game. Only in rare cases will you be able to make any money that way. Buy orders are for patient people wanting to buy at a discount from people that want to quickly fence loot for ISK. (edit, tongue in cheek, guys. Just trying to make a point, I know buy orders are an important tool for acquiring goods for manufacture and otherwise.)
Highest margins are for people that use Buy Orders in cheap system A, and Sell Orders in expensive system B. Also requires manipulating both buy and sell orders in both places so it requires some micro.
Buying from Sell orders in cheap system A, and using Sell orders in system B, cuts your profit margin somewhat, but cuts the workload in half, and frees up your alt for other things (if you don't want him to live in another region, manipulating buy orders all the time.) I just find its easier to move to another commodity and find a good deal, rather than microing buy orders to get the cheapest possible price.

Yeh, let's take this trade discussion in-game.
Once a trade is revealed on forums, it has gone.

I am only a few weeks old and I have made 250mill in trades. If you got the time and passion you can do it.
250mil in trades and you're a few weeks old? Are you kidding me? Have you played trading sims before? How much money did you start out with? How does someone completely new to the game pull that off in a couple weeks?
I'm not being accusatory. I'm just baffled at your success/ my stupidity.
its not that hard. :)

Learned what happened on the Niarja freighter kill from Malarkey (the victim). He was cool about responding promptly.
It was NOT a suicide gank. Just plain suicide. He had run too many Gallente missions and hadn't noticed how far his Amarr standings fell.
When his Freighter entered Amarr space, out came the Faction Navy, and pop went the freighter.
I stand by my statement that Freighter ganking in hi-sec has gone the way of the dodo bird.

Edited by: Delta Wings on 12/02/2009 10:30:42 Hi Sec. hauling base rule 1
Never move more vallue, ship and cargo combined, then the vallue of the ship(s) able to pop your ship.
Freighter Transport Industrial, rule goes for all of them. This will rule out all well thought through suicide ganks in hi sec. Served me well.
ON topic: I have made 1.5 bil in my first 3 months in EvE, worked my way up from scratch.
1. NPC goods trade/transport, things like mechanical parts, robotics, electronic parts do well. Till you hit 20-25 mil. 2. Start with trading second/third best named Items, set up buy orders in one region and sell orders in the same or another depending on sell prices in different regions. Something like buy up in Jita, sell in Rens or Amarr. 3. Find a trade oppertunity that goes well with your skills and time. Keep you eyes open and diversify!
So...
Try to aim for items that generate hi profit margins ion the beginning, NPC goods can triple your wallet in a evening just by buying them in region 1 and selling them directly in region 2. To get a good turnover on a larger wallet (from 20 mil on) you want to work the market, start out with buy orders and sell orders, while keeing some money to continue your (NPC) hauling. After this you're on your own.
Good luck. this is not a link |
