Golem or Paladin?
I can use both, just unsure where I should spend my money. |

Paladin ftw.
The Paladin is often hailed as THE mission ship. The Golem *from what I hear* is good for AFKing, but sadly lacks in ability to complete the missions fast.
Just make sure you're missioning in an area that generally gives you missions with rats weak to EM/Therm and you'll be sound.
ps. Wish I could use a Paladin :( I'm all Minmatar and S)H&I"T!1 |

As with so many things in EVE, the answer is "it depends."
In general, the Golem will be better overall, but if you're doing missions vs Amarr's traditional enemies (which are weak vs em/therm) then the Paladin will be better in that case. |

the golem can do all dmg types, but gets its dps blown up almost 50% thanks to defenders, so id say the pally is good, but i just wish the kronos was useful.

The loss of missiles on the Golem hurts a bit, but the ability to sit there and stay put makes it a lot easier to do missions, no more hands on navigating and messing around with AB's just jump in F1 (weapon grouping ftw) and relax, just press F1 every now and then...
Of course if you plan to look at your screen and think mission running is fun then you might want to pick a Paladin, as long as you fly for the Ammar because you are going to have a slow time killing things that are tanked against EM and Term. otherwise. ------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

It depends on what you're fighting. Paladin is prob best for EM/therm weak rats, Golem will likely be better for anything else. If you do go Golem, for the love of god fit torps. Personally I do mostly Angel missions in a torp golem, and it pretty much owns every other ship out there for mission speed (assuming you loot/salvage). Better dead than smeg |

A dedicated salvage ship certainly for the busy missions like the WC missions ofr instance will usually (unless you are operating several jumps away from your base) be a lot faster then using the Golem for that. Use the Golem and it's sitting still power, to kill all in a 40Km radius. While dragging the cans into a single ball, take as much of the loot as you can. Bookmark and complete the mission. Using a 8 salvager rigged BC go jump to the bookmark made earlier and you can salvage the ball(s) that you left in far less time then it would take doing the same with just Golem.
Fitting torps on a Golem is great for Angel missions but for missions where your friendly NPC repescts your personal space and sits at 50 ro 60Km you are pretty much out of luck, and you do not want to have to "run" afer a battle ship in a Golem it is like watching snails race, even with an AB. So for all of those that do not do Angel missions good skills and Cruise missiles will certainly do the trick. ------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

Seriously though, if you are using a torp Golem you won't loose your torps to defenders, Cruise Golem can though.

That's what Javelins are for. I've never seen an NPC orbit farther than 50-51km either, and even those are rare -- most are in the 30-35km range. Javelins go out to 60+ assuming you have proper skills, so you shouldn't have any trouble with any mission using torps.

Edited by: Mastin Dragonfly on 11/02/2009 17:08:45 I've used both and frankly they are pretty equal. Like others said: when you run for amarr agents definately go for the Paladin, otherwise the Golem (torps all the way). Personally I'd just go for preferences, either for looks or for weapon type.

Lately I use an Ishtar, a lot cheaper then a golem/paladin, and I kill around the same rate as my friend in a Paladin (that is with T2 dmg specific sentries). The only thing is, you can't just hand around there with the Ishtar or you'll get blown up (except if it is guristas). Heck this thing was outdated! So updated.

I fly both, the Golem and the Paladin. The Golem is fitted with Torps, Rangerigs and 2 Painters(IG-Torprange is 64km). Overall the Golem is better, even against Sanshas my Missiontimes are ~the same. Flying the Paladin is more fun i use it mainly in Sansha/Blood-Missions where the NPCs spawns far away.
If you fly in Amarr-Space use the Paladin, anywhere else the Golem, but it depends mainly on your playstyle. Flying the Golem can be boring after a while.

ummm what? really
dps with my skills: 538 with garde II ishtar. 954 with tach II + hammerhead II pally
might be somewhat valid, if I get tracking disrupted in blood/sansha missions. and after resists/jams in gurista missions
eh, I would take the paladin, then again my alt wasn't skilled up for a golem back when I was flying the paladin. so I dont quite have a good comparison there.
