This evening I got all setup with my mackinaw doing some ice mining and while surfing through diferent corporation controls I thought it would be a great idea to make lots of decorations which I could give to corp members as a reward and a little somthing more to show for there efforts than "gratz on that skill"
Just basic decorations like covetor pilot, hulk pilot,, orca pilot amongst other stuff (just giving examples)
Needless to say when I finally created my first medal and hit the ok button it came up saying that there was a charge of 5 million isk to create the decoration, on further checking I also discovered that everytime you want to give that decoration to a corp member it costs you a further 5 million each time...
Why is this? is there a reason why it costs you 5 million isk to create a medal and 5 million isk per member to dish it out?
Personally I think the charge should be completly abolished or at the very least reduce the charge to 500k isk... at least then I dare say some corps or the vast majority of corps would actually make use of the decorations feature.
I mean seriously, if u have a corp with 20 members in it and they all fly hulks and you have a medal for flying a hulk, it costs you 5 mil to make it and 100 mil to hand it out.. you`d be as well finding the nearest noob and handing them 100 mil its that pointless...
Just my thoughts anyway,, decoration abolish all charges or reduce them to 500k isk instead of 5 mil isk...
comments plz.

medals aren't supposed to be cheap and meaningless, if medals are cheap everybody and their falcon alt is gonna have 20 or so medals, you know somebody really did something if their corp is willing to lose 5 mil to grant a medal to them.

They're not meant to be used for "Oh wow you can fly <X ship> here's a medal"
They're meant for "Oh wow you just soloed a titan in your ibis, here's a medal" or "Oh wow you just donated 5 trillion ISK , here's your medal" |

i agree with Kahega, nevertheless a 5mil charge for medals is completely ridiculous its not an ISK sink, its annoying |

I've handed out medals 3 times so far and having the price up at 5 million does deffinitely make them something special. I agree that we dont need every joe running around with more medals than Patton. |

Well, having actually served in a military, I understand the importance of awards and decorations, but I agree with the OP, that is completely ridiculous. The significance of a medal is deemed by the award giver for what it's awarded for, i.e., it's rarity. The Medal of Honor is the US's top military award and is fairly rare compared to let's say, an Achievement Medal. If both cost the same to make and give out, then they are essentially equal in meaning. I can accept a cost to "commission" an award, but it should cost nothing to award it to deserving individuals. They earned it.
If a corp wants to award every member for waking up everyday this week, then let it be, it'll be a common award and not carry much significance in my eyes. To the guy that faced certain danger taking on the titan while in the Ibis O'Doom, he can be awarded the Leeroy Jenkins Medal of Honor and be respected for it.
Maybe if CCP could implement some type of Order of Precedence for medals that are designed, corps could attach more significance (or higher priority) to certain medals. Awards that are of more significance would cost more to commission. Responsibility of award recognition would still lie with the awarding authority, meaning, if they gave it out like candy it would lose it's meaning. |

Its not about how special the medal is its about smaller corps wanting to add a little more to the corp feel than anything else....
Ok fair enough dont drop the cost to create the medal,, but at least remove the cost to hand them out... at least then the smaller corps will make use of them and it keeps the amount of medals made metered due to that creation cost..
Basically looking at it the decorations are really on relative to corps/alliances with megaisk to idolly waste as they see fit... why should smaller less profitable corps lose out?

I would like to be able award medals to people in other corporations. A medal from my CEO saying "You're cool" is all well and good, but who cares? Attaboy's are stupid. If a war target tosses me a medal for say killing Cute Spygirl's Dominix while 5 other battleships and a falcon failed to kill me and i STILL warped away (all of us at undock, falcon 80 off) i'd feel like it was REALLY worth something.
I would also like to see Alliance Medals, that require multiple Corporate CEO's to award.
Finaly EVE medals that require general player base votes or a certain number of alliance Executors to award would be awesome. Specifically i would give every member of Exalted that ****d that mackinaw op the other day a "Cold Hearted" medal, and i'd like to think most of eve would be willing to award it as well. That is an event that does not happen often at all.

A medal is you way of telling the people of your corp that, yes, we really _DO_ appreciate what you did. And we're willing to pay isk to show it.

Ya they are intentionally expensive to avoid CEOs handing out metals for every little thing. It is intended to be an honor to receive one, thus the expense.
Personally, I think that each corp should be able to hand out a single ôHigh Valueö medal similar to the ôMedal of Honorö, make it cost 100mill or something .
For progress-based achievements I use a rank system which goes into the playerÆs title.
Non-Combat roles have titles like: Junior Lab Assistant, Lab Assistant, Lab Technician, Senior Lab Technician, Director of Science Operations.
Combat roles use US Marine Corps ranks.
Ranks have a skill pre-requisite (such as ômust be able to fly a BS), then a social component which is based on leadership and contribution to the corp.
