Today I was running an expedition first problem was I was not able to handle the rats on the gate with the ship I was flying at the time. I got a couple of them, so warped out and repaired and came back, there were a ton of rats now and no gate. So I grabbed a better ship and came back, now that room was gone and it was on the last room. I cleared it, got an update.
On the next expedition I got two large groups of rats after the first gate, I targeted some of the frigs and started to kite them, the all the sudden that group just disappeared, so I killed off the second group and was able to complete.
On the next expedition got to the last room, started shoot a small group of rats, then all the sudden, I think, an officer popped in, left a message in local for me. This being my first officer I was jumping for joy then all the sudden he disappeared.
Is this normal for rats and gates to disappear in expeditions?

Edited by: Cartheron Crust on 11/02/2009 08:33:14 This sounds like a sansha/centii one iirc. It's normal for that escalation sequence and half the dissapearing fleet shenanigans and the named guy. If you get the final stage beware the smart bomb and largeish re-inforcments when you hit the structure.

Forgot to mention it was a Domination expedition. There was no large structure at the end.
Still nice to know this is something that is happening to these kinds of missions. |

this is common for expeditions.
it usually follows these rules:
1) you warp to a gate in space. there are some rats (usually a faction spawn) in space and possible reinforcements can warp in ! if you go through the gate you enter the real escallation complex which will possibly send you further away. 2) you warp to a complex (like let¦s say some structures and rats) directly. here rats might be there right from the beginning can spawn after some time, after you shoot a building or other rats. the faction spawn will usually come with a espawn.
important !!! in case 1) when you warp away rom the gate it will disappear and the rats including the faction spawn are lost ! in a few cases you can manage to warp to the gate fast and it will still be there. if you have a disconnect ... too bad for you it will be lost.
this is what happened to you in my opinion.

It doesn't disappear, you just warp to different place when you use BM from your journal again.Backwards actually - first warp drops you in different location then BM is and following ones drop you on BM. Just as DED plexes don't really 'move' on downtimes, they're still in same place, it's just you BMed wrong place to spawn it. _____________ I don't care what is nerfed, as long as it's not my "undock" button. |

I do a lot of angel space exploration, and there are a couple of expeditions that will spawn a ton of rats or a named/domination rat which vanish again. It's normal, if you get the full escalation you'll get to kill the named/domination rat at the end. As of yet I've never had to warp out of any plex excluding the angel minor annex (which remains the same as you left it) so I can't really comment on whether or not the vanishing gate is normal behavior. I have heard other people say that if you warp out and back to certain plexes/expeditions on the first room, when you warp back in it takes you to the next room (as if you had used the acceleration gate) which would fit in with what you experienced. Having never experienced that first hand, I don't know how true that may be. Better dead than smeg |

I just found an unknown site. I BM'd the gate and went after a different ship. I warped through the gate killed everything and got the first escalation. I went to the location in my journal and warped in, only to find the targets about 200k out. They disappeared, and i got the second escalation. After jumping through 23 systems, I warped to nothing in space. I dropped a missile in a can and orbited at max distance for several minutes, hoping something would show up.... nothing. I went to an adjacent system and got a probe launcher and a multispec probe, fitted it and found 0 result. The information box said "FRENTEX", with the following text:
It seems like the weird sound once in a while coming from your left dashboard is not from the navigation computer after all, at least it seems to have calculated the whereabouts of these Blood frigates pretty accurately. Not accurately enough though, as they warp out as soon as you enter space. Luckily your instruments manage to come up with a best approximation for their next destination.
Anyone else seen this bahavior?
Do I need to try again after a downtime cycle?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Tried again after a downtime cycle. Warped to a protected gate this time, and it escalated again; 4 jumps away this time. Any ideas what I might expect on this next segment?
