Here is the universal method to succesfully deal with ANY salvage thief.
It has been proved to work correctly, and i't easy, even my dog did pass the test.
But before i reveal it to you, let me tell you a story: There was once a little player, with little isk, and a family of 3 gallente little pest kids. This poor Father had to get to work every day to the quafe distillery to take home those little isks he could get to buy frogs for his family to eat.
after the 4827th day in the quafe factory, he dropped down a bottle and it crashed down, corroding the pavement. he was fired. He went back home.
after 3 days, he killed his family, and eated them.
9 days after, he died, straving, having no frog to eat.
Moral: Don't be a Gallente.
and now, here is how you deal with Salvaging Thiefs:

Sorry, pushed the Post Reply too early. old abits die hard.
anyway: don't shoot em, don't do anything, just let em steal your stuff and you'll be fine (and so will your sheep).
If you really feel like taking a corpmate along to salvage stuff on-the-go, feel free to do it. just...don't...shoot...wrecks... -----------------------------------------

Because i'm Gallente.
shooting your own wreck will only remove income from you, since you won't be able to retrieve the loot/salvage and only waste ammo (unless you're amarr, because if you are...well, **** you).
The salvage thief won't lose any income, they can just probe another mission while you're shooting your wrecks. -----------------------------------------

Okay first get something straight.
SALVAGING: This does not cause aggro. Go ahead and web me. Condord will be more than happy to blow you up, then I get to salvage AND loot your wreck
LOOTING: Means I take stuff from your wreck. This will give you the ability to shoot me.
So please remember Ninja Looting and Ninja Salvaging are two different things.

some of them just dont get enough with the loot and salvage, they want the mission completion item too
how do you fight that? you don't
imo missions to deadspace areas should include a key to activate the first gate and the gate should remain active for maybe 10 or 20 secs max to let gang members enter the mission with the runner, or any one else fast enough, at least those missions that require completion items
if you want to be a profesional ninja salvager you should go where is more profitable, that is, nullsec belts

I didn't mean empire salvaging, there's next to nothing worthwhile to salvage there. CONCORD won't do anything in low-sec.

you do realize that amarrian crystals (faction/T2) take damage right? you know.. the equivalent of ammo?
pretty sure losing ~4m of T2 med scorch.... up to a FEW TIMES PER DAY (on a harbinger, 7 guns... i've lost 14 in a day as my record so far) hurts like a ***** too...

Unfortunatley so, but i really look forward when and if the day comes that wrecks are treated as salvage, so i can warp in PVP ships to blow the **** out of jerks who think its okay to steal from me.
And I dont care what anyone says.
In the meantime. I will continue to pop my wrecks when one of you **** ants come barging your way un-invited into my mission, and try stealing from me. I would rather loose the isk, than allow scumbags to proffit from stealing from me.
In my mind. If you are in MY mission, and lootting the wracks that >I< created, which I have EVERY intention of salvaging myself, then you are, in my opinion, directly stealing from me.
period.
Sadly the game mechanics do not agree with me..... yet.

but when you get 4x the optimal range... for nearly the same amount of damage as a multifreq
who could complain :P
farm lp like nobodies business.
and scorch M are only 400k/ea.... amarr multifreq's are 1.3 or 1.4m ... more profit for me and so it all balances out in the end. cost/benefit wise.

Wrecks treated like salvage? You mean you want loot to to free to take as well, just like salvage is? Oh, and you do know that you already can blow people up if they steal from you, right — with your proposed change, that will no longer be possible. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

If people want to salvage my mission they can just ask in local, i wont be doing it anyway. It just isnt worth it. Only with angel extra it would be a benefit for me to salvage, besides that running the mission just gives me more isk/hour. Especially for guristas and serpentis missions.
But even if i just ask in several channels if anyone is intrested in salvaging a lvl 4 angel extra, i usually dont get any response. So i guess not that many intrested in it. ---------------------------------------------

Wow, you can salvage wrecks and it doesn't grant attack rights? Coool....I had no idea.
I would never do that in someone else's missions of course. But I have seen hisec belts full of wrecks that newbies abandon because they cant salvage them anyway. I'd be happy to sweep up some of those with my alt.

look on map and set stats to show number of active pilots, the hotspots that are not trade hubs are popular mission systems(most, not all),and ignore those who say busy systems are not worth missioning in,they are because so many are doing missions in it you have little chance of being ninja'd and lag is negligible

Unless they're taking salvage out of one of your cannisters or something, it's not salvage theft.
Someone salvaging wrecks of ships you blew up is not theft any more than spaceships are ponies. CCP has said that salvaging wrecks is legitimate and that you are, in fact, flying spaceships (they didn't say you weren't flying ponies, but unless someone can prove that something can be a spaceship and a pony at the same time, that means we're not flying on space ponies).

Just finish the mission and do another one. It's not that you are losing anything. The time you'd spend salvaging the mission you 'lost', you will invest in the next one effectively yielding the same ISK/h as if you'd salvage every mission.

Or... You wait to shoot your wrecks just as the salvage thief gets to them. I always hum the benny hill theme to myself as they scurry from can to can only to have it pop right after they activate the salvager. Good times and tbh I should fraps it sometime when I have a taste for mission running in a hub. Was so effective at discouraging the poor little guys that I had several thieves simply warp away once they saw who was in the mission.
