On say an Abaddon, for 1 v 1 purposes is it better to have all out tank and no heat sinks or a few heat sinks with a tank.
What I mean is, I can get 88k armor with 412k ehp but with only 717 dps. But is it fair to say in a 1 v 1 with a 1k dps+ BS the fact my buffer tank is so big, it negates the fact he has more dps.
Hrm?!

Neither - if you're just talking 1v1, an active tank is far better than a buffer. However, the abaddon is not the best 1v1 battleship for exactly that reason - too difficult to active tank it.

Divide (effective HP) by (incoming dps - regeneration rate) to see how long your ship will last when receiving that much dps.
So, if you've got 412k hp... Divide that by 1100 dps to see how many seconds you'll last under fire. About 375 seconds in that scenario.

If you ignore gang skills, and assuming that you are using a full hg slave set with akemon, and max skills.
If you are using t2 the theoretical optimum is 4 plates, 2 eanm, dc, 3 trimarks (optimum here defined as the highest % of remaining EHP on target ship destruction).
If you use amarr navy eanm/hs, the theoretical optimum is 3 plates, 2 eanm, dc, hs, 3 trimarks
This assumes a few things, besides the obvious ones like tracking and optimal range issues, the key two are (and factoring these effects would make the calculation too taxing for me to bother):
1) The target isn't repairing 2) Time isn't a constraint (i.e: no possibility of backup for the target)

I prefer to run this setup in the lows my 'baddons for lowsec piracy fun:
1 x 1600mm RRT Plate 1 x LAR II 1 x DC II 2 x EANM II 2 x Heat Sink II
It just feels right.

Funny you say that.. my friend challenged me to a 1v1 a while back in his geddon, i knew his fit and he didn't have a web. So i grabbed a Typh00n, threw on Siege launchers, Neuts and Shield extenders, and filled the lows with nanofibers and overdrives.. i landed within 1km of him from and he didn't get me past 80% shields...
