Ok, so Eve is a little harsh for new guys just starting out, loosing your brand new Retriever or Cruiser to accident or otherwise puts a serious dent in your wallet.
I propose all characters under 3mil SP have all T1 Cruisers/Retrievers and below have thier hulls automatically fully insured to current market price.
All they then need to do is get the mods that they lost. They are therefore still learning the harshness of Eve because they loose some fittings but also they are a little protected from making silly mistakes.
It would also mean some willingness to PVP is increased for newer players without having to grind a load of level 2 misions to get enough isk together to replace your hull.
Just an idea, let the flames begin. I guess this could be taken advantage of in some shape or form? I haven't had my coffee yet so lets see what silly things could be manipulated out of introducing the above. |

dont know what i think of this, so not really saying yes or no. just if it were to be implemented one addition would be that, this "free" insurance would only be alloted to those who stay in the npc corp they started in (Once they leave the corp the benefit is removed, and they cant get it back by joining back up). then i would beleive it.
It might be exploitable to, is something to think about. (heres a suggestion to help lessen explotations; under 1mil sp = platinum insurance, under 2mil sp = gold insurance and under 3mil sp = silver(or bronze) insurance. |

Nice thoughts and thank you for the comments. I do not think it's a good idea to tie the full insruance payout to NPC Corps as everyone would like to see players in real Corps. This would be another excuse for new guys to stay in NPC Corps.

Although I'd cheer all ideas that make new players at home in EVE.
I'm not sure if this is the way. I like your idea if it was a closed area, like a dog fight acedemy. I haven't calculated what 3 milion SP can buy me, but I'm afriad that instead of helping new players out it might be cheaper ganking if it's released in the world of EvE.
Personaly I thought the hard part of EvE was more arround 10 milion SP, to big for kinder garden to small to run with the big guys.
But if your idea was brought as a Dog Fight Academy, with closed area's 1 vs 1 2 vs 2 as a extention of the tutorial, make sure it finishes after a set number of rounds or use that SP cap, eventualy you want them flying in the Universe of New Eden. You might even hand them a Faction frigate when they finish the course. |

The issue I see is that players with 3,000,001 SP will come to the forums complaining that they suddenly don't have the best insurance any more.
Any system that gives players a benefit until an arbitrary cutoff point is inviting said players to come on the forums complaining because they passed the cutoff and they feel they deserve to continue to have the benefit. It's the "If you give a mouse a cookie" mentality. Such a system would give younger players a misconception about what they 'deserve' in Eve (when all they really deserve is the ability to log on and undock, with no guarantees of physical or financial safety); we already have enough people coming over from other MMOs who believe they deserve never to lose anything, this would just make it worse.
I have to say that I don't think your underlying goal is bad, to make it less painful on noobs who are just starting out and keep from discouraging them, but it paints an unreasonable picture of Eve for them and softens the Eve world; for those reasons alone I'm saying this would be a bad thing to have in-game. |

EVE doesn't need to be made more "noob friendly". The new players coming from other games just need to realize that when stuff blows up here, it is gone forever. They only need a warning in the tutorial that says "You're never safe in space. Others may start shooting at you as they see fit." or something like that. That way, they have been warned, and it's their own fault if their ship is blown to smithereens while doing whatever. That rarely happens if they're just careful. |

I think the real downside to this would be that in EvE, you learn from your mistakes; the more you make, the more you learn.
Why would we want to change that? The harshness of this game is what attracted so many people to it; even if most people are risk averse publords sitting firmly under their CONCORD safety blankets, but seriously- why should we change the harsh nature of this game... if anything this game has become soft enough already. Ok, so what is to prevent this:
I buy a cruiser, go out, and eject. An ALT blows them all up and salvages; repeat. FREE ISK! it'd be boring, but it would be free salvage materials. You wouldn't be losing anything.
The learning curve of EVE is also it's main selling point. No, it's not WoW, where unicorns teach you how to use the fluffy rainbow when you start. You start alone, somewhere in the universe, and you don't know WTF is going on. EVE's harshness is also it's beauty. |
