yes i used a 5 250 rail thorax back a ways, works nice on npc's in empire, look at getting engineering to l5 and skill that reduce gun grid up as well, i still needed RCU's but only a couple also named guns have less requirements which helps a bit...

This may help and its a good read, Linkage read the forsaken ruins one it talks a little of what u want as for a ship db on actual manning and the like I have never found one.
