SHIFT/Click on the stack and move the cursor to your cargo bay. Release it (SHIFT key) and you'll see a window asking for how much you wanted to move. Input the 1000 and click ok.. is basically drag and drop.

I run two accounts on the same computer using different directories for each account, Full Screen, "Sun occluded by ships" turned off, and ALT Tab between characters. I've never had a grey screen in space, docked or any combination thereof.

No, you are free and clear to do whatever you want in Non-empire 0.0 space. There are no "penalties" involved with either being the aggressor or the defender in using the jump gate after a battle. That help?
