Forwarding a large range of ports is not an option and I wouldn't recomend anyone did so it leaves your router wide open. You should only ever forward specific TCP and UDP ports respectively for given trusted applications.

I think we should define a clear difference between a CTD and a dissconnect: - I consider a CTD to be when the client crashes to the desktop without an exception (I don't think I have show exceptions enabled in the prefs atm anyhoo) or error ...

Yes taking a look at the nutz n boltz might not go a miss since the current 30+ temp. I have a Quadro card which have a monsterous fan on them and go full revs for 2 secs on PC start (which was nice)
