This has been happening to me off and on since a faillauncher update a couple weeks ago. Usually when it asks, it'll go into an endless loop of asking for character name, then password, then char name again, etc. I usually have to close and reopen...

We would need to know your fit to give a really good answer. With proper skills and fit, cruise missiles work fine on cruisers. Just make sure you use T1/Faction/Precisions for them, as Furies are pretty bad at applied damage on smaller targets. ...
