If you plan on pvp, my advice would also be to go pvp all the way. A miner with "some pvp skills" usually dies painfully to a decent pirate. your desire to go pvp can also affect your choice of corp, since a corp whos saves pvp operations for rain...

I'll join the common advice here and tell you to train all advanced to lvl.3 at least, 4 if you realize that it's a skill you use very often, and 5 for your primary ... But it does not have to be done excluding every other training ... you can go ...

Don't train ONLY learning skills because you'll probably die of boredom before completing them ... Just put them high on your priority list, but don't hesitate to take a break from your learning sessions if there's a new toy you want to test or fe...

Ok, my few cents on this one (as a player who's flown and underskilled Tempest) - Don't fly a ship in combat if you can't afford to lose it ... - Don't expect to pvp effectively with your ship until much later, but I still advise to buy an early ...
