I had this same problem and there's a page somewhere saying to clear the cache to fix it, but it doesn't. You simply have to click the Reset button on that window to reset them to default, and then they'll appear.

Extreme lag can cause your drones to do weird things. Usually they just stop listening to you, or won't ever get back in their hole so you have to fly towards them and kind of "scoop" them up.
