Make respecs a paid feature

Players would be able to purchase 'Respec Tokens' for, say, $20, redeem them ingame and get 1 full respec. Everyone should get 1 respec for free with the release of Apocrypha, though, but afterwards it should be made a paid feature. Discuss.

I just want to shift the topic slightly from discussing the pros and cons of respecs as a feature in general to a more practical side - a possible way to implement that contraversal feature.

The argument against respecs goes something like this: Because it's already really important to minmax attributes in order to not fall behind long term, respec will force people to train skills in chunks of 6 months and generally add more metagaming than is necessary. Making it cost money would effectively just mean that not only are respecs still a requirement, but everyone will have to pay 40 bucks a year on top of sub fees. Stuff thats good for noobs is good for EvE and if something is good for EvE it is good for everyone playing EvE. At this point I don't really need respecing... but I'll be using it for some minor tweaking, adjusting my memory to finish all the drone skills for example. New players will be able to take it to extremes when doing int/mem skills vs perc/will ones... oh my, I wish I was a noob again :D .

I'm actually amazed you found a way to accomplish that. The reason it's so bad is because you're essentially getting an ingame advantage that's better than the best implants can provide, for real life money. Unlike existing paid features (portraits, char transfers), this one has a direct impact on gameplay.
