Originally by: CCP Abraxas As some of you have noticed, the question is not whether ships have crews - they do - but what happens to those crews when the ships are destroyed.
I would presume they have escape pods, or perhaps the crew compartments are designed to separate in the event of the loss of hull integrety. If they all died when the ship popped, then just think of how many people we have wiped out since the game has begun (especially since battleships are flying cities!)

Also, how many Titans have been lost since their release, and how many are aboard the average Titan? I'm guessing close to or more than a million. *** Awake in a Space-Dye Vest Struggling with Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Falling Into Infinity toward a New Millennium While trapped inside this Octavarium. |

It probably won't =(
The "debate" was between the people who read the backstory and the people who baselessly assumed the ships have no crews. So now this won't end it.
Also, lime green T3 flag lol.
Can you repackage T3 ships btw?
I didnt read the whole backstory, but if i remember right most things sound like "capsuleer-ships dont need crews"
there are photos of saying how many crew members are needed for ships. Most frigates are manned soley by a capsuleer, however everything else requires more, bs are in the thousands... or atleast upper hundreds IIRC

My crews are all hand-picked, brainwashed fanatics. They never argue, never sleep, and their personal higiene is exemplary. Quite a stark contrast with their beloved captain, actually.

Edited by: Majin82 on 19/02/2009 04:09:19 In EVE you are just like that Chick in Homeworld who was commanding the mothership. POD = just you Frigate = Small crew Cruiser = More Crew BC = Larger crew BS = Thousands of crew Dread = 10s of thousands of crew Titan = 100s of thousands of crew
I dont know about you but I would never trust my life and sign on to be the crew of some ****tard floating in goo in an egg, who makes all the choices and all I do is fix the subsystems... ------------------------------------- The difference between a Pirate and an Anti-Pirate is that an Anti-Pirate fights ships fitted with guns!

Edited by: Thresh Avery on 19/02/2009 04:12:52 Just for your information, back in 2004 (before the Exodus expansion), when you looked at any ship's attributes by doing a "show info" you could see the crew size.
From what i remember frigates had around 4-20, cruisers had 200+ and battleships had several thousand to perhaps just over ten thousand? It was a long time ago, but i know the information was available in-game all those years back.

I think too in the Empyrean Age novel, when the Gallente escort fleet for the Nyx gets blown apart, the POV character wonders how many hundreds of people die when a megathron explodes.

Under the assumption that speeds and distances are sped up a bit for gameplay reasons(seriously we have cloaking tech in space, so yes). We can say that the crews know that ships are going to boom atleast 5 mins to an hour before they really do unless there's secondary damaged.

Self-destruct is 120 seconds.
If you self-destruct your ship they have 2 minutes to abandon their assigned area/job and rush to wherever the escape pods are kept.
Just think of how many people die each day in New Eden due to insurance fraud alone.
Sig is now EVE related. Happy mods?

Amateratsu remembers the days of Frontier Elite when you were stuck in station for weeks/months browsing the bulletine boards for saps to fill your crew before you could take your shiny new ship out to play... á

Another in-game mention of ship's crews: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/rlowens/Ships_have_crews.jpg
Quote: As well, a capsule ship requires a far smaller crew, meaning fewer potential leaks regarding shipping schedules, routes, and cargos.
