Lots of people are asking for dropping out of warp 50-75km from the target, others are asking for warp cancelling and other features...
So why not have an advanced warping command that opens a solar system diagram and asks you to place a point where you want to warp to (like the homeworld tactical screen).
That way people like explorers can truck about to locations that don't have beacons a bit easier, players can approach stargates at a distance and the edge of combat so they can get their long distance weapons out and most problems are solved.
Perhaps base the ability to do this on an astrogation skill or module that allows you to create your own detination point.

My guess is that's it's not that easy.
I suspect that alot of the space in systems doesn't really exist!! ----------------------------------------- Don't jump off the roof dad. You'll make a hole in the yard. ----------------------------------------- |

What did that have to do with the topic, kargo?
As for the topic at hand... I think this is a great idea, as long as it is doable at the programming end.

Problem with inputing any location is that the way a warp drive works in EVE physics is by targeting a massive object or becon. Though it might still be valid to have a "Warp targeting module" that would calculate the direction and length of a warp jump, accuracy of the exit depending on what the skill level of the warp targeting skill is.
It would be a great tool for remote station placement and for eluding pursuers.

well then how about simply letting you point your ship, turn on the warp drive, & also turn it off whenever you like?
additionally.. if you warped through a minefield would it cause you damage? methinks it should... or perhaps offer a type of mine that you could deploy that would serve this purpose... not only could they cause you damage but they could also disrupt your warp field & bring you out of warp against your will. now wouldn't that be fun ;)

a homeworld style navigation system would be great and would work well with the way eve navigates currently. In fact i just suggested this as a replacement to the radar on another thread before reading this one. :)
