Edited by: MeBiatch on 22/02/2009 03:36:36 Hey i just realised i had a deimos sitting in null sec... i have not used one in a while and before i had an ion/duel med repper setup.... i eneded up getting pwned by a blaster rokh and absolution...
so.. my question is should i go for the same setup.. or try a long range rail setup?
like...
High: 5 200mm II rails (either antimater or spike) drone link
med: 10 mn mwd II 1 point cap injector (webber, or tracking comp)
low: med armor rep II med armor rep II (or nano II)(or sig amp) DCU II Ex harner 2 eam II (or 2 mag stabs)
5 valkries II

Stick with Blasters m8. Hers my set up-
High Slot - 5 x Heavy Ion Blaster II 1 x Medium Energy Neutralizer II
Mid Slot - 1 x 10mn Microwarpdrive II 1 x Dread Guristas Warp Scrambler 1 x Stasis Web II
Low Slot - 1 x 800mm Rolled Tugnsten Plates 1 x True Sansha Explosive Armor Hardener 1 x Damage Control II 3 x Magnetic Field Stabalizer II
Rigs - 1 x Ancillary Current Router I 1 x Trimark Armor Pump
Ammo - Caldari Navy Antimatter M, Null M
Drones - 5 x Hammerhead II or 5 x Vespa EC-600
You can also try my old set up which is the same but with a Small Energy Neut II and 5 x Heavy Neutron Blaster II's for a bit more DPS on the guns but with a smaller neut. Both set ups work well but i prefer to sacrafice a bit of DPS for a bigger Neut. Up close it pwns which is the way a Deimos should be flown

And because of this mentality the Deimos is tons of fun to fly as the main DPS of a small- mid sized fast (and well- rounded) T2 gang... As I haven't lost a Deimos in quite a while.
It really is a lot better than a Thorax, it's speed being as important as the upped DPS. Also better than the Ishtar in it's role... OFC the Ishtar can do many things the Deimos cannot but for sheer in your face DPS in a very agile boat the Deimos rocks. ---

no. 3xheavy ion II's and ogre II's. maxed drone skills, mediocre gunnery skills. tank is about the same. gank ishtar still does more dps.

A t1 frig in your optimal dies in 5 seconds. And a gank ishtar has no tank. 875 grid, lololol.

a T1 frig in your optimal dies in 5 seconds. yes! it does, but you die in those 5 seconds as well because ure 1)primaried and 2)paper-thin. lolololol

The Deimos setup I've been playing with has proved shockingly effective on Sisi - only just bought it on TQ, so I don't know how well it'll fare on there.
Yes, a Deimos will get primaried, and then it'll die... but I've still melted through just about every target I've faced - until the entire FFA room turns on me, which seems to happen annoyingly often. The only time it's lost a 1v1 was against a cap-injected Deimos, and that was incredibly close - the other guy was in 10% structure, and he'd run out of cap boosters as well. One more jam with the drones and I'd have won.
The trick is to use a little lateral thinking. What's a Deimos good at? Shooting stuff. Ok, stick big guns on it. What's it not good at? Getting hit a lot. ECM drones. What else? It gains cap if you stick a MWD on - ok, boost it even more with a cap recharger or similar, and run a MAR alongside some resists. A medium nos evens out the stability further.
A neut-arby and a Curse have both died to this, and I've managed to 'tank' both a Deimos (with intermittent jams) and an Onyx (without) at the same time with sufficient damage output to put the Deimos in serious trouble. Thus far, the only things that have really managed to blow me away have been Ishtars (though not had a chance to fight one in a remotely even fight yet) and a Cerb that chewed huge chunks out of my armour before I could react. I even handled a very nastily tanked Phantasm. -

Well, I agree on a gank ishtar being fun but with Ishtar using heavies the Deimos still outdamages it by a little margin, and still is faster(and can fit a tad better buffer as well). If your findings are different I suspect that you have fitting problems or severely biased skills...
Ishtar has possibility for more utility slots and all its other fitting possibilities but I still prefer the Deimos for pure gang gank DPS.
Oh btw, if you want to outgank the Deimos in a cruiser drone boat try the Navy Vexor... It has some drawbacks (Slower, no backup drones, caps out quite fast, more expensive) but for sheer gank it is king.
Originally by: Burn Mac If you want a really expensive thorax you can buy a vigilant :)
Yeah, if you want 4 mids and much less DPS and EHP with 1,5 the price of a Deimos, sure, go for it... Get the Navy Vexor instead TBH.
BTW, I'm not saying the Deimos is be all end all, it's just great fun in the specific role of DPS of a well-rounded smallish gang. Also, I'm not saying something like a Zealot couldn't do the job as well, in many cases even better... But I reckon the Deimos to be more fun and potentially faster at killing.
TBH I'd still like for it to get some dev love as much as the next guy. ;)
Edit: LOL at the T1 frig argument. Your gang should prevent *that* from happening. If you meet hostiles who outgank/ out-e-war and outmaneuver you, sure, the Deimos will be one of the 1st to pop but it probably takes someone with it... ---

Gotta add, so you have not fit a gank Ishtar but you claim it's better? lol
I've lost a bunch of gank ishtars, (and killed **** in them before that) so I somewhat know what I'm talking about. Actually I lose a gank ishtar comparatively more often than a gank Deimos... And my gank Deimoses are *not* paperthin. Sure, their tank is pretty small for being in scram and web range but with good piloting and a decent bunch of pilots to fly with it's not going to die nearly as much people (bad pilots?) make you believe...
Even when scrammed by a T1 frig. Hello? Your friend in a ceptor or AF will fix that problem instantly for you, or your Falcon pilot. Actually your Rapier/ Huginn/ Hyena/ Arazu/ Lachesis/ Curse/ Sentinel/ Cerb pilot might even prevent him from ever reaching you... Get my drift? Deimos is sadly *not* a soloboat post- QR IMHO.
Also if you have great droneskills and mediocre gunnery, of course droneboats will gank more at that time. Don't generalize ships based on your skill deficiencies, please.
And Deimos is not all that hard to fit, especially if you rig it. IMO the Ishtar is always much more tighter a fit with tons of best named needed to get stuff crammed in...
And still once again, how I would love for the Deimos to have a 4th mid! I like it but it could be so much more... ---

ME personally, the deimos is about getting in fast, and kicking out as much damage before dieing or running off.
I don't like the use of plate on this ship, firstly is slows it down, and secondly i prefer to to use a repper, better fitting, and survivability, but makes you weak to neuts.
I also found Ions + rigs are better the Neutrons without rigs, fit easier, track better, more damage.
I've never had any cap problems running this ship, it's all about knowing when to turn the repper/Mwd on and off.
I have to agree in some respects to the people talking about the brutix/thorax, they are viable uses for the same role, at a cheaper price. Yet the deimos will out perform them in my opinion, if only slightly, but it's this slightly that can give you the advantage.

Have also tried this solo with much success. You just need to pick your targets and fight on your terms. [And tbh if you're not doing that in a deimos anyway, you shouldn't be in one].

Edited by: MeBiatch on 23/02/2009 23:25:49 ok just read the setup above.... looks good.. though i would sub the hammerheads for vespas... i might try that one m8.... though i hope i dont get laughed at for using an em rig again
ok i think this is my old setup:
highs: 5 ions II med nos II
med: 10 mn mwd II 1 wd II (probs use a scram now) med cap injector (800's)
lows: 2 med armor reps II dcu II ex hardner II 2 eam II
omg i think this is why i died hella fast rigs: em pump ex pump
if i did the same setup i would change for aux rep rigs....
though this setup does not have lots of dps....
if i did it again i would want a nuetron setup... but i saw one dude that used hybrid rigs and claimed hier dps from ions.... i dont know if i am going to plate the ship.... think i might go for basically the same setup... ions II but sub an eam for a meg stab and not use noob rigs

If you don't have skills for a Zealot and want to copy what it is doing at least some of the time, Lilith's fit will work nicely. Only thing it's missing is a heatsink. Added bonus is the option of speeding up an easy gank by going in close with fac AM. I don't like that style too much personally(I prefer a tad more buffer and stick to scramrange) but its one of the best in this thread. ---
