Originally by: Dreximus The flashy reds coming into highsec, boarding ships and then going out to gank is simply circumventing the entire risk of their chosen profession IMO. Suicide ganking without consequences is dumb, and that is in essence what this is, as the flashies are now getting around the consequence of their sec status, and can bring more risk to civilized players than should be allowed.
They're not "circumventing the entire risk of their chosen profession" anymore now then they used to. -10's killing people in hisec has been happening long before the orca came around.

I realize this. They weren't doing it in the numbers then that they are now though. Prior to the Orca, I think I ever saw maybe 4 flashies in highsec, out of 3 years almost of playing. I live only 3 jumps from lowsec, in Caldari space. Obviously, it wasn't that popular.
Since the Orca's release, I've seen about 40 flashies in high sec. 4 month timespan. Hmm. I haven't changed where I live either.
The Orca has just made it *easier*. Really the flashies boarding combat ships in empire should have been handled long ago; but as long as it wasn't a rampant threat, not such a big deal. Just like Goons and the Privateers; until it became a massive problem, CCP didn't bother...and I can understand why due to the programmer time that has to go into the fixes.

I see your dilemma, but isn't the suffix "-wad" an Americanism attached to words to emphasis their negativity, c.f. "gaywad", "****wad", "tightwad", "Canadawad", "Spartawad", etc? If that's the case, you could use "-wad" to enhance the macho, all-guns-blazing attitude of the word "gank", couldn't you?
I agree though, it is still a pretty unsavoury word

Confirming that Cruisers have always been able to dodge concord (in .5 and.6 anyway) and do this without an orca so long as the target was scouted beforehand.
Ocra just makes it easier...not more doable.

You can talk and use whatever sized words you want, the fact remains that this thread has nothing to do with S&I. I'm sure if someone was seeking help in staying out of danger from pirates ro pvp, they wouldn't be looking here. TBH, I wish this thread would either get moved or closed so I don't have to see it when I'm searching through SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY about topics regarding SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY.
SO, now who's whining. I made a post to inform other miners. You aren't smart enough to ignore the new post icon, that's a learning issue for you. Now that the thread is over here, it is dead to miners. Guess the term industry doesn't have to do with industry pilots or tactics to keep industry ships.

Rerail thread here-----
-10's (or free targets as I like to call them), have always used alts to scout targets in high sec, then bum rushes in T1 gank fit cruisers to kill said target.
They used: 1) Safe spotted pre fit ships 2) Prefit ships in station with an insta undock 3) The more casual guys simply made fast runs in hoping they aligned and warped to poor innocent miner before police show up.
Orca, simply means your 'safe spot' is mobile.
Thread back to derailed----
Gankwad does indeed sound like a dirty word.
And I vote pie... not cake.

Wad only has negative connotations on the western side of the pond. Here, a wad is a stack of money.
Ergo "gankwad" is simply a synonym for "pirate": He who ganks for a wad. ---

The Orca is cool. If it used for this, then its cool. If you cant do anything about it, AT ALL, then it is indeed an exploit, and deservs the nerf bat. Trouble is, you can do sometihng about it. At all times and in all instances. Sorry to say that.

Way to skip the multiple posts from miners who were not aware of the 'loophole'. you know, the ones that said thanks for the info.
My favorite part of this thread is how the one carefully worded post conveniently made by some one that fits the description of who he's trying to help to a T, and who's post justifies everything he says (a 2 month old pilot flying a hulk) was is in fact made by some one 4 days old at the time of the post...

I read the thread in the following way. The OP an his defenders are angry about a suicide gank in low-sec. What really gets them, apparently, is that people with -10 sec status were able to attack them by "bypassing" the faction navy with an Orca.
A few points here. First, I hate to break it to the OP but an Orca is completely unnecessary. Flashy pirates could, most likely, fly right past a .5 gate without getting shot at in frigates. It just takes too long for the faction police to react.
This "exploit" can be done without an Orca at all. Anyone can eject from a ship anywhere for these guys to climb into.
Lastly, I don't quit think you get what it means to be -10. It doesn't mean you can't "go" to high security. It means that you can't fly any ships of significance into high security. It means you've got to pay inflated prices in low-sec, or shell out some cash for an extra account just to "haul" you stuff from high-sec.
It also means you can be engaged anytime, anywhere. Sentries are always against you. If someone attacks you your corp can't shoot back without getting sentry aggro.
There ARE consequences of becoming a flashy, and they're quite serious; However, they are not meant to escalate to the point where pirates can't play the game, or come up with ingenious ways of getting at you in high sec.
In sum, stop thinking the game was designed around YOU. It wasn't. There is a healthy distance between open ended pvp and your carebear desire to be safe, and its working just fine.
And BTW I used to have a mining alt. You CAN tank a Hulk to stand up to quite a bit of punishment, you just can't fit all of those mining upgrades in your lows. Its not these pirates fault that YOU refused to fit a robust tank in favor of mining efficiency.

in 0.5 you can get a bs with half a travel fit past the faction navy domi with 3 istab gets past just fine, then its just a matter of having a scout, and yeah i have alts that could simply drop a ship off in a SS and i pod in and pick it up,
so yeah the orca doesnt help all that much it just makes it easier for people without alts that can fly the appropriate fit but can fly an orca the ability to do this
but in reality i dont even think that that is the reason, i think they used an orca for it because it was a new ship and they wanted to use it for something

we just fly through how ever many high sec systems we need to from our low sec system. Cruisers make it through no problem. No docking up in stations, or orcas. We've been doing this for a long time just that no one has ever cared to complain on the forums.
