The warp effect starts to soon and needs a transitional effect to blend sub-light speed into warp speed. The overall effect is overall too garish, too large and looks suspiciously like bitmap GFX, ick! The effect needs to be toned down a bit in my personal opinion although I kinda like and appreciate what has been tried here.
Of course I can't wait to see how it's finished as I suspect the effect is missing a few rendering steps to make it truly awe inspiring!
The cloaking effect was a bit disconcerting at first but I've grown to quite like it but I have to admit the whole lightning effect idea seems a tad overused. A little more subtlety would go a long way towards making it look better, sometimes less is more. This might be achieved by adding a little more transparency to the effect, making it smaller, last less time and making it seem like it's travelling over the surface.
All in all though I'm liking how it's all shaping up.

when it's finished.
So when are we supposed to discuss those builds ? Oh right, after they're finished and go live.
Also those, let's call them "lightnings" around the ship are of somewhat low resolution. It kinda feels like a downgrade to year 2000 ;)

I like it, they just need to make it so it doesn't stop so soon before coming out of warp, makes it seem like you're sitting still for a while. Maybe something in front of the ships as well as behind. _______________________________________________ "If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack." - Kenshin Himura -CDS Now Taking Contracts-

This looks nice. The effect on sisi needs more work, but I am confident CCP has that under control. Right?

I quite like the new warp tunnel.
It's made so you feel like you're not moving, but in fact are covering great distances, which should be so according to EVE chronicles, and well....by simple laws of physics....a bit customized laws of physics that is.
You know that if planck bubble actually existed and you had the ability to propel yourself beyond light speed, you'd be either surrounded by complete blackness ( no light can hit ya) or complete whiteness - you're riding all the light wavelengths. So technically the warp thing should be like completely white screen when in warp or completely black, slowly resolving into target are of space as you are leaving warp speed.
So, why white or black...or curly roses? Physists don't really know anything about the nature, they only presume that they do and hope to god that their calculations don't get them their noses blown off.
So i think that in order to make the human "gamer" mind understand the warp signification, the new effect is far better than the old one.
Plus the old one was getting...old.

Just spent an hour on Sisi.
I'm still dizzy from the warp effects of other people.
Look. I don't care about the warp effect. Just make it so that only those warping have to see it.
In an area where there are a lot of people warping around it's constantly showing these pink liquid tunnels.

Oookay.. So currently we see (hopefully) bugged warp effect from everyone when they go out.. BUT! What if this new bugged fuctionality stays ingame in different form?
What IF, when player is aligning and going to warp, just before it, some light comes from ship and it speeds away with some cool simple shader effect? I don't mean Star Trek alike but something like that..
Just thinking aloud here
ps. what if it would be some effect like space "sucks" ships in? It doesnt need to be anymore special than that..

I would be okay with some simple effect. Currently on TQ you can't tell when another ship is getting ready to warp. I think it would add some interesting tactical options if there were some small indication that an enemy ship were about to go into warp.
But the big, screen-dominating thing that's happening on Sisi right now is nausiating (truely).

There is a sense of movement but it feels slow and sluggish, it made me want to go and make coffee on a 20AU warp as it seemed like I was going to take ages to get there (it didn't but perception is important).
CCP please speed the warp tunnel effect up, heck what is wrong with the one we already have? Spend your time fixing the important stuff...

regarding cloaking- you cant see a cloaked ship from 10km onwards and WHO THE **** zooms around 3 hours in max zoom to find 1 scout? Normally you should assume theres one on the gate if theres a hostile in local or you fail

From the linux/wine world: I personally was surprised at the change. While I too agree that there needs to be more sense of "movement", this new set of effects actually works BETTER via wine than the old effect which had issues and fps hits from time to time.
That said, I don't believe this gfx is complete yet either, and from last build to current as of today, there have been some changes to its appearance.
As another poster mentioned, patience....I'm betting it will look quite different a week from now.

I certainly hope that the warp tunnel and cloaking effects are going to contain some sort of light bending effects, just like I saw with the wormholes in a showcase video here. Warping and cloaking causing light distortions makes sense anyway from a science point of view.
So for the cloaking I'd say: make those sparks a bit less visible, and cause light distortions of the background behind the ship (making its contours somewhat visible that way).
For the warp: - Remove the pink party when someone else warps (I'm assuming this is a bug anyway), and cause the light on/around a warping ship to distort like with the wormholes. Perhaps (if possible) stretch it out to the far point where it disappears from grid after which the 'tail' of the stretched ship will follow, that would be awesome. Sounds a little Star Trek-ish, but it would be cool anyway.

YES! For smeg's sake!
Don't whine and say "NOOOO DOBNT UES TIHS WARP EFEFCT!!!!" when it's clearly not finished yet. Comment on it when it appears to be finished.
it's a simple bloody courtesy. repeating the whole "no sense of movement" thing and complaining about it as if it's already been deployed live to TQ is just. plain. stupid.

I think the current warp effect is nice, it just needs a little tweaking, hopefully a dev see's this suggestion and tries it out on a beta form or something.
Basically I find there is no 'momentum' being felt in the warp, so maybe having the camera rattle like in the previous warp effect should be added back in, and the pink colour of the warp is just really glaring, it's nice the first time but it gets dull very quickly, after discussing it with a few mates, we all agree'd that a darker colour, maybe a blue/black mixed in with lighter bolts (of the lightning style effect) shooting across the screen, If these were added I think it would be a lot better, and probably more preferred.
What does anyone else think of this?

The new warp effect just doesn't cut it. Not only is there no sense of hurtling at hugely super-light speeds, there is actually almost no sense of movement at all.
The effect (together with a corresponding sound) needs to convey the speed and the awesome power it takes to rip the fabric of space to create the 'tunnel', all without aggravating the player. Instead all I see is a liquid tube with fairy sparkles.
I can only assume (or hope) this is still not working properly on SISI. ...

I think seeing ten other people's warp tunnels all at once leaves one with a generally icky impression; in such a situation it definitely resembles the inside of a pink water fountain. However, when it's just you... in your own warp tunnel... it has a much more slick feeling to it. The rippling and lightning effects are much more subtle, and the Doppler effects aren't overblown. I think it's spot on, but seeing others' warp tunnels absolutely, positively, MUST go. Again, it's like a horrid LSD trip in the bottom of a 6-year-old girl's pink kiddie pool.

MotherMoon, thanks for the video, really appreciate the effort!)
That is exactly how it looks on my screen, with HDR and without. It looks to me like CCP went all out with the 'bubble' effect. However, where it looks good during jump (still needs a little tweaking IMO), it just doesn't work during warp.
It may be interesting at warp initiation, but not as a tunnel wall all through the warp. The wall needs to look harsher, like it'll kill you if you touch it. ...

New one, definitely looks like you are frozen in space with cheesy water surface effect.
The cloaking effect looks pretty nice, but the symmetry of those lightning strike shapes is annoying. This whole obsession with the CynoField lightning strike veins is getting boring.
