Everyone is jumping at the fact that this guy used an exploit. From the original description it sounds like the guy could have had a cloaking device. I don't know if the cloak works that way but its suppose to. Any chance that could happen? ______________________

No, they guy was locked by 3 ships, and all 3 had warp scramblers and webber on him. With normal game mechanics, they ship doesn't disappear, this was added a few patches ago. We tested it and the only way we got a ship to disappear is to log on again.
I'm not saying that I know it was an exploit for sure. But that is the only way we were able to reproduce it. It could also just been an unrelated bug.

Every person does this at one time or another. It's not classified as an exploit, and it can save you from losing a 100m isk ship. Although I don't personally log off like that, since I always avoid travelling solo with a battleship to begin with.

I don't know who told you that, but last time I petitioned it it was an exploit.
And last time I talked about it here and demanded a fix, my thread has been locked.

Edited by: olyyy on 10/08/2004 03:35:55 I fear it's too late to get a fix in next patch
edit: this thread hasn't been locked because no mod has read it yet There is a drop in moderation when it's late
Galaga (Galaxian - XIF corp) And yes, Olyyy is on our KOS list so she enjoys stirring the "flames" ( 2004.05.25 ) |

tut tut tut. I hope a warning :P has been sent out to this player. Bah just ban him and use him as an example! :D
Seriously tho, something has to be done b4 every man and his alt reads this thread and starts being brave going into 0.0
Too late for the patch, but instead of delaying this one, work on a small patch to fix this problem.
Maybe if the player "CTD", cant you disable the login program for a few mins? ...i dunno im not a programmer!! ;) _____________________________________________/ *Here comes the Thnikkaman!*

Edited by: Thnikkaman on 11/08/2004 02:54:59 D'oh! Good point, now i see why the Devs have done this. Ok, well what i dont get is why i can still see this Thread :(
On one hand, if you CTD while in such a situation, ure gonna be ****ed when u log back on, and if it happens a lot, ure gonna leave the game. On the other, if you use it to exploit, and im guessing a lot of people will do this now, ure gonna have a lot of people ****ed for exploiting, and not able to kill people, or defend ur region...and they may end up quitting? So who to please, exploiters and ppl with ****e hardware or teh hard core gamers? _____________________________________________/ *Here comes the Thnikkaman!*

The solution would be, that if you log back in, it doesn't remove your character from space untill the 2 min timer runs out or the pod is destroyed or out of danger. That's if you log on a different character. If you log on with the same character, it should just put you back in your ship. It's a simple solution, although, their might be some kind of loop hole there for an exploit, but I can't see just yet.
Discussion on a solution would be more productive then complaining about people using it now that it's out.

I had that happen several times, CTD. Always during combat, especially if there is a lot of missiles flying. O well, that is what insurance is for. ______________________

Sounds to me like they just need to tweak the code that prevents the ship from disapearing when its scrambled. SO that when they login a new character under the same account the ship still wont disapear since its still scrambled/webbed.

This should be fairly easy to make a temporary fix for. After you have typed in your password and select connect it should poll the server and see if this account is in use already, if it is, the server should prevent the connection.

Why not flag the character as being "in combat" if they hang up. Then if they log back into their account, regardless of whatever character they try to activate, they'll be forced back into the character that's flagged.

Edited by: Celebon on 11/08/2004 07:28:56 ( Are you be certain he logged off the character after he'd been scrambled? Maybe he just quit the client while jumping which afaik does sometimes give the same result (dissapearing and or warping after a while, while being scrambled) unless it's been changed.
I'll have a chat with him and see what he says happened. Are CCP still looking into it ie: is your exploit petition still active? )
