Well, a few of us were sitting at a gate, and the gate becomes active. Jumps in an enemy. We look for him on the scanner, he uncloaks and Me (in a scorp) and 2 frigs lock him down, scramble and web. We got him into armor and he vanishes. Not warps away, but just disappears.
Ok, we tested this and here's what we got:
If you are scrambled and webbed, and you log off, you DO NOT disappear. You stay in space until the modules are turned off.
So this guy should not have disappeared. We tried to figure out how he disappeared and what we found out is this:
If you start another copy of EVE and log in to your account, NOT A CHARACTER, just the character selection screen, and your character in space vanishes.
Now, we reported this to CCP, but they can only say that he didn't log on another char, but they can't confirm that he logged into the character selection screen.
This is a pretty severe loop hole in my opinion and needs to be dealt with.
The guy's name is Zervun of Zoners, he was in an apoc.

It's true, because I tested it with the help of a friend.
It's a matter of recoding. CCP set it up so that the only way you can have 2 characters logged in at once is to have two accounts. Well, they just need to bump the flagging system that autounlogs the other ship to after a Character has logged into the game. It won't stop it but it will make the exploit trackable, and trackable exploits can be punished :).
I keep a teddy bear in my pod with me. A teddy bear with sharp teeth, massive claws, and a pinache for eating the flesh of podded corpses. I call him "Fuzzy". |

Freakin log-offer people, thats so incredibly annoying, you get all excited that you get to shoot someone and maybe ransom or kill and then they just dissapear and all your fun goes away and all you can do is curse many words at your monitor and then go do something else while fowning.
Sincerely, Rasta

Hmmm its usually the only way to get stuff fixed...making it a big enough problem . Stupid crap like this has to go.
(And that also goes for logging off so the pod doesn't even appear in space after the ship is destroyed. But thats a different matter...)

The reason I posted this is so that something will be done about it. If we kept it to ourselves it wouldn't have solved the problem. Also, camping gates is not why I play EVE.

Yeah, Stainers log out too. I came across a Tyrell pilot (who shall remain nameless) flying a Blackbird - I was in a Vigil, I started shooting him, got him into armour and he logged off to save his pod. His ship didn't disappear but his pod never appeared when he exploded. Yeah it's lame, but people will still keep doing it.

I didn't name him cause he was CA, I named him cause he used such exploit. I wouldn't have pointed it out if he disappeared after 2 minutes like normal, but he vanished after less then 30 seconds.

Everyone is jumping at the fact that this guy used an exploit. From the original description it sounds like the guy could have had a cloaking device. I don't know if the cloak works that way but its suppose to. Any chance that could happen? ______________________

No, they guy was locked by 3 ships, and all 3 had warp scramblers and webber on him. With normal game mechanics, they ship doesn't disappear, this was added a few patches ago. We tested it and the only way we got a ship to disappear is to log on again.
I'm not saying that I know it was an exploit for sure. But that is the only way we were able to reproduce it. It could also just been an unrelated bug.

Every person does this at one time or another. It's not classified as an exploit, and it can save you from losing a 100m isk ship. Although I don't personally log off like that, since I always avoid travelling solo with a battleship to begin with.

I don't know who told you that, but last time I petitioned it it was an exploit.
And last time I talked about it here and demanded a fix, my thread has been locked.

The solution would be, that if you log back in, it doesn't remove your character from space untill the 2 min timer runs out or the pod is destroyed or out of danger. That's if you log on a different character. If you log on with the same character, it should just put you back in your ship. It's a simple solution, although, their might be some kind of loop hole there for an exploit, but I can't see just yet.
Discussion on a solution would be more productive then complaining about people using it now that it's out.

Sounds to me like they just need to tweak the code that prevents the ship from disapearing when its scrambled. SO that when they login a new character under the same account the ship still wont disapear since its still scrambled/webbed.

This should be fairly easy to make a temporary fix for. After you have typed in your password and select connect it should poll the server and see if this account is in use already, if it is, the server should prevent the connection.

Why not flag the character as being "in combat" if they hang up. Then if they log back into their account, regardless of whatever character they try to activate, they'll be forced back into the character that's flagged.

Thats not the point. The point is that if they are warp scrambled the ship should not warp. And if the game crashes it would not have helped them, they was warp scrambled and about to die.

Maybe if the player "CTD", cant you disable the login program for a few mins? ...i dunno im not a programmer!! ;)
so your saving if the game truly crashed on them. you should also punish them with the loss of a ship?
Thats not the point. The point is that if they are warp scrambled the ship should not warp. And if the game crashes it would not have helped them, they was warp scrambled and about to die.

Maybe he just quit the client while jumping which afaik does sometimes give the same result (dissapearing and or warping after a while, while being scrambled) unless it's been changed.
I'll have a chat with him and see what he says happened. Are CCP still looking into it ie: is your exploit petition still active? )
I don't think it's active. The last reply we got was that they confirm he DID NOT log in a seperate character (but that's not the same as logging into the char selection screen, which logs you out also). The logging while jumping could have happened too or the code might just not have worked they way it is supposed to.
I would just really like to know how exactly it is supposed to work so that we don't get all pi$$y when what is supposed to happen happens.
