I was looking at the technology section of the BBC news site and I couldn't help but notice a screenshot of eve.
Excuse me if this has been posted already, but y'know, you're away from eve for a few days and suddenly you're hearing about ingame events from a global media outlet...

Hardly the first time EVE has been on the BBC website - there have been a few other articles, mainly about the CSM but also a couple about certain other famous events in EVE (i.e., the more famous GHSC operations, the big RSF/Lotka Volterra fight that crashed the server, etc...)

If you're talking about the Dan David Prize recently awarded to him, it is reported by the BBC here. I note that "A condition of the award is that 10% of the prize money is used to fund graduate students in the winner's field. Mr Blair's spokesman confirmed that the rest of the money would be donated to the Tony Blair Faith Foundation". Whatever he's going to do with it, I think we can reasonably assume it's not going to end up in his pocket. If you're talking about other money he's earnt - as long as it's not being paid out by the taxpayer, why should we care?

Leaving alliance politics aside for a moment - the GoonFleet operation in my mind actually does sell Eve very well - it's immense, complex, uncompromising, and it punishes people if they become lax and complacent.
Love em or hate em GoonFleet achieved a notable success against Band of Brothers and they deserve all the credit for this. Let them enjoy the glory and the publicity.
Because after this, they are the ones everyone will try and pull down. It's ironic that they registered BOB as a corp name because in a very real sense they ARE. Different philosophy, possibly, but they are now top dog and they will be challenged. Just as BOB were.
It's a great sell for the community and I'm glad the BBC picked up on it and gave it some extra coverage. The links to real life events make the game sound more attractive, too.
I mean, EVE predicted Bernie Madoff and Alan Stanford... in a way -
