Not necessarily. If CCP implements a scheme to where the paint scheme isn't custom to the point where you can upload your own, but custom in terms of being able to chose from a pre-set combination of paint colors and symbols, then all those combinations would be included on the client side just like corp symbols and ship paint schemes are now. The only thing the CCP servers would have to do is to serve that particular combination of paint and symbol colors for the client to render. That's how the server works now. The server doesn't render anything, it just passes values from its database to your client. The actual incremental data stream passed to your client would be very small.
So given that, and given their server upgrades, I don't think it's a monumental task to implement dynamic paint schemes from pre-set choices. I think it's just something that hasn't been a priority and hasn't been possible given the old servers.

Personally I think different pre-sets and colour schemes would make looking at other ships a little more interesting and it's nice to give your own ship a look you prefer above the standard colours.

I think the best idea would be to allow 1 or 2 trim colors that can be chosen from any RGB value; plus display a corporate and/or alliance logo on each side of the ship. ----------------------- CEO Militech Armaments Corp |

How much database do you think putting up a corp logo would take? It is already put up to you if you show info so putting in a corp logo can't be that hard. Alliance logos aren't necessary but would be nice. ------------------------------------- My other alt is a Ferrari |

I guess the difference there is that you only tend to show info on one person at a time, whereas if you warp onto a really busy grid, you could potentially have dozens or even hundreds of logos all trying to load at once. They could maybe delay it, so that you only load the logo if you look at the ship, or get close enough that you should be able to see it anyway.

Ok, I see no way this wouldn't work. Corp/allaince logos might not work but custom paint jobs is better than nothing at all. Afterall, if you can customized corp logos then there is no reason you can't customize ships. ------------------------------------- My other alt is a Ferrari |
