I thought after reading the spiel on cloaks that they were putting the cloaks back to their old behaviour.
Patch notes state that the decloak range is now 2k, and u cant reuse it for a little time.
However in its original use, with the 1k limit, ONLY ships deloaked you, i assume thats been conveniently forgotten about and still everything decloaks you at 2k ?
If so then what happened to "well put it back to how it was", having some random can/roid/missile/speck of dust decloak you is annoying at best. __________________________________________

Which means that as your being covert op your actually going to have to (try). Itll make things more intresting for the covert op pilots that actually want to play as one. ---

Im not covert ops, nor do i have a covert ops cloak, i use an improved, tbh its limiting the use of it to just being sat there watching people pass you by, trying to sneak up on gate gankers isnt usefull either, personally id make a large ball of secure containers (or something similar) with a 2kish gap between them, sit inside and cloaked ships cant get to you.
So far with a standard type cloak all you can do is cloak and feel "cool" serving very little purpose. Covert ops have a better role/use because of cloaked travel, could some1 please tell me a practical use for the standard types as they stand, because im not seeing it. __________________________________________

I agree, don't understand why it's 2k and not 1k like it's supposed to be. And why do other objects other than players like stations, roids, stargates uncloak my ship?
And if i'm supposed to be able to travel unseen then why can't I jump while cloaked. To jump you have to decloak at gate and then cloak on the other side. And for a split second on the other side of the gate, the ship appears on the scanner while going into cloak. Maybe i'm misunderstanding this part of the covert ops ships.
And another thing. While warping if you warp through an object like a moon or something (and don't understand how in the first place I can warp through an object) the ship uncloaks. And their isn't anyway to pervent this from happening since it's pretty much impossible to know if the ship is going to warp through a moon or other object.
I guess i'm really confused. Can someone, maybe a Dev, enlighten me on the covert ops cloaks??

They can be helpful if you are 200km from a warp in point at a moon in 0.0 and need to use the restroom while being hunted.
At least cloaks don't make an annoying sound over and over again --Missa New Siggy to Come Soon(tm) |

This is my opinion and is merely here as food for thought.
In other discussions, people have raised the argument about Covert Ops Cloakers being too powerful. Since you have to uncloak to perform a session change, you *are* vulnerable for a moment, and this should suffice to keep the "omg cloaking is too powerful" crowd happy.
Stations and stargates do not uncloak your ship. NPC ships do, as do secure cans.
Quote: notifyYour cloaking systems are unable to activate due to your ship being within 2000 meters of the nearby Secure Cargo Container.
Similar messages for stargates, NPC ships, and Stations.
I will test the warping through a moon issue when I get home, and will send the appropriate inquiry if needed. Perhaps you could send a bug inquiry as well Infantry Blue?

Its seems to me that the can decloaking is to stop a miner just cloaking when the NPC turns up and waiting for them to leave before resuming mining.

I feel you are correct.
I personally have no problem with this, but I would if you could place a secure can near a gate. As it is now, you can not place a can within 100km of a gate.
THAT would be a serious problem to me. --

cloaks are here to serve a purpose. COVERT OPS
aka siting 100km from a gate watching your enemies and telling your crew what ships they have what guns they are using.
u can also for example be postioned 15 km past a agate in enemy territory and have your teamates warp to you and hav insat jumps out to safety.
anyway there are tones of good things you can use it for. So stop being such lazy noobs and wanting something thing to be super uber just for you. DOnt be children balance is important. so know ur role and shhhh! =This podding has been brought to you by Odet, the only way to fry.= |

Warping through celestial bodies could easily be fixed by the devs if they just implemented a improvement in warping that has the ship fly "around" the planet/moon/whatever. Warping at that speed wont take much longer to go around it anyways...

Yeah, I didn't even think about the map browser, but my point that i'm trying to make is that I shouldn't have to worry about something like that.
And Odet, why make a stupid negative statement like that. That is why I dislike posting on the forums, because of people like you.

The way I think about it is....... just think if a ore thief was able to get within 1k of your can :)..... You know how many petitions they would get for ore just dissapearing.... I think 2k is reasonable and perfectly adaptable.

Finally! A logical reason for the 2k range. But why not make it the 1.5k so we can have the little extra? The reality is that see him or not, he's getting your ore and there is nothing you can do about it. But thank you for being a voice of reason in this. ;)
And as far as COVERT OPS goes, that would be COVERT OPS and not cloaks in general. Last time I checked, COVERT OPS was an elite friagte, so elite abilities are to be expected, and none of the COVERT OPS abilites are applicable to the remaining cloaking devices. In comparrison, the covert ops cloak is unfetterd and unrivaled.
