In other words, you can beat the ninjas to the salvage. You just choose not to.
The only reason why would "could not" do it would be if you didn't have the skills for it yet, and those are easy to get since they are low-rank have low-level or no-level prerequisites.
Don't claim inability when it's actually a matter of unwillingness or ignorance.
Right I can't zip about and salvage while sitting in my slow tanking mission ship. My bad. Those ninja salvagers have so much skill.
I'm having fun with this looting mini-game in Eve. Time to buy that one year subscription.

It's your choice to be in a slow ship — there is nothin inherent about running a mission ship that makes it slow (quite the opposite, in fact, since you usually aren't burdened with molasses-inducing multi-plate/trimark buffer tanks and use active tanks instead).

Looting isn't a mini-game. Salvaging is a mini-profession, though. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

I agree! It's our fault we choose to maximize our tanking potential for the missions with high dps. We shouldn't have any access to salvage or even our loot if we choose to up our tanking abilities for missions.
From now on I'll invite anyone ninja salvager who wants to grab my wrecks under my nose. That'll teach me to play better.
Thanks for taking those precious minutes from your life to put me in my place. I must be out of my mind to think I had any right to a kill timer on the wrecks I spent my time creating.

You got a bounty. The wreck is not yours, it's property of the poor rat you just murdered.

Funny that. I don't have to compromise my tanking to get some speed. Sure, I suppose I could fit even more tank if I tossed the speed mod out, but why would I need that extra tank? Overtanking is bad for you — it blinds you from discovering more useful fits. Incidentally, speed also helps reduce the damage, so you're improving your tank anyway…

I think that ninja looters/salvagers make mission running more exciting. Its a funky having my alt race against the ninja and having my main pop any wrecks that the ninja is going to get first. Theft is part of the game and if you are running level 4s i "think" that are you are making more isk/hour then your thief.

It's a simple solution. Loot/Salvage on the fly. I manage to run L4s with an active tank and a tractor plus salvagers. It's certainly possible to do.
That said, I remember fondly the week or so after salvaging went live. I already had the prerequisites so I was able to make half a billion isk off salvage alone in plexes while others were still training up to it. Man, that was great while it lasted.

Quote: Ninja salvagers are just carebears and often noobs (who have read a guide from net) that want fast money. Gimme the right to shoot them so that they have to come with PvP fitted ships to salvage. That'll make things much more interesting. There's far too little PvP in EVE for beginners anyway.
So wait. You mission in hisec and call others carebears?
Why don't you mission in lowsec? Afraid of a little PVP?

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS MAN. He clearly has no idea what he's talking about. Please continue whining on the forums, in local, and in convo as normal.

If your buddy has you set to +10 (maybe +5 and above, i forget) you will not be flagged a thief when you take a wreck he killed.

A good way to frustrate these thieves, and no matter what you call yourself you are just common thieves:
In multi-room missions always go grab your salvage ship and salvage each room as you finish it. Works pretty well for me.
I have my sec status up enough now that I am just gonna gank the next one that ****es me off anyway. I already have my insured gank-o-pig rigged and ready to rumble.

Any halfway decent ninja will just let you pull the wrecks to you and salvage them under your nose

Effective on the 5% of ninjas that salvage in rigged/expensive salvage ships. Waste of cash/sec status/time on the 96% of salvage ships that cost less than 4m (Assuming your gank is successful, of course)

That would be me. Except the effective part. I fly what I can afford to lose. Pop this one? No problem, I got another in station and the cash to get 3 or 4 more.

If it's me that ****es you off please do. Many have tried, none have succeeded.

I call them carebears because they run with 0 risk. At least I have lost ships on missions. Actually, didn't someone call salvage thiefs carebears of carebears :)
I'm quite new player and very PvP oriented. I go to low-sec and 0.0 as soon as I have some resources so I can blow up few (dozen) ships. Hell, who in their right minds would play EVE for mission running?
I hope that CCP would add more PvP content to beginning players though. Just so that it would be easier and faster to learn some basics and get your hands dirty.

Someone isn't a carebear because of what they want to do, they're a carebear because of what they're currently doing. While you're missioning in hisec, you're a carebear. Most of us want to PvP, and a lot of us mission-runners do mission-running to support our PvP activities on our other characters. That means all of us are carebears while we run missions. That's the point of it all, isn't it? To earn money as fast and as safe a possible to fund other activities, right? Thought so...

As a noob....it is part of the game. Deal with it, not like it happens on every mission. As the others said, you get the bounty and the mission completion rewards, the salvage and even the asteroids are just bonus material to make more isk. The OP also said something about CCP putting a time limit on wrecks...well there is, I thought wrecks only last 2hrs in space? I may be wrong and if I am, please correct. and when you turn int he mission, it all vanishes as well.

Although I'm new to EVE, I have played many other mmo's. The definition of 'carebear' is not static. Usually (imho), in other mmo's, the term 'carebear' is used of players that just want to PvE and avoid PvP. They tend to hang out in PvE servers (if there's multiple servers to choose from). Noone calls an active PvP player a carebear if he/she occatinally does PvE missions or something similar low risk activity.
Ofcourse I realise that EVE is a bit different from most other mmo's and has it own terms and definitions.
Hornet2060:
I know it's part of the game and it doesn't bother me that much. I make good money and know how to avoid leechers. Still, I don't have to like this game mechanic and have right to make, hopefully constructive, comments about it.
