It'll be slightly different.
Think the patch day one is expected to be slightly bigger.
Sig is now EVE related. Happy mods?

Big downloads? On the internet? Surely this is a shock and you must note the news media.

It figures the patch is released on the monthly "Update Tuesday" for Windowz users. So, I'll be patching both EVE and Windows at the same time! Woot! Eh...just hope it doesn't decide to restart during the patching ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |

The annoying thing will be for those of us that don't have 'unlimited' transfer caps so have to fit it in to our monthly download habits if we don't want to be paying extra. -------------------------------------------------- Civil Disobedience is still Disobedience The most damage is done by those that know how and not why |

Does anybody know if there will be a smaller patch to take the test client to the live client for M10? I'd hate to have to download all the new stuff again.

I think people are somewhat cautious about a 1GB+ file that they have to download in order to keep playing the game. It's not difficult in the slightest for me, but I'm sure that for people with a slow connection, or people with ridiculous download limits that it is a fairly big concern.

iirc, its quite possible to torrent the patch or at least the new client. I guess you will be setting a VERY long skill.

Yeah, I think you're right. That still doesn't help the people with the bad connections or the ridiculously small download limits =P~

Edited by: Juwi Kotch on 04/03/2009 11:26:06 I hope CCP/Atari will have at least put a warning of some kind very visible on the box, that the buyers can't just start playing with the purchase of the box, but need to download some 1.5 gigs of data first. At least as visible as the information that continues playing is only possible with monthly payments.
That is in fact a concern for people without DSL connection or non-flate rate programs, and might simply be very surprising for those not familiar with MMOGs.

Caveat Emptor It's an online game, they should know that going into the purchase.
It is the year 2009. The people without a reasonably fast internet connection constitute 1% of the populace. Those people should educate themselves on all things related to the intertoobs, whether or not their 9800baud modem can download the content and whether or not their 333mHz pentium with 128meg memory can run programs.
There doesn't need to be warning lables on the software.

i dont mind huge patches that much, although they are an annoyance
what i'm scared of is that tens of thousands of people will be downloading that huge file at once, and probably from 3 or less servers..
patch day easily caps out the server in some mmo's, and if that happens, you might end up downloading the patch at 20kb/s regardless of what connection you have.. --- return the mines!

In the olden days, what you'd do is go out and chop down a bunch of trees. Chew on them (or something) until they get all soft and mushy, and then squish them into these thin sheets. You'd then pour pain on them in forms that resembles letters, and read those.
Don't know if trees support OpenFonts and hyperlinking though, but I suppose one could live without those two features for a day. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |
