Been flying around for a few minutes only issue I've noticed so far is with the sound. There is crackling. It's most pronounced when multiple sounds are playing eg. music while Aurora says 'warp drive enabled', etc.
Now time to go find some rats... :-)

Edited by: Verite Rendition on 05/03/2009 18:36:01 Edited by: Verite Rendition on 05/03/2009 18:35:46 I've had a few minutes with it so far. I really need to spend some time later with the Windows client to figure out what's a Mac bug and what's a Sisi bug.
1) I can confirm the sound issue.
2) I had a totalhelldeath issue at one point turning 32bit color on. I can't seem to replicate it however.
3) EVE capture data is going to the wrong place. Logs, screenshots, etc should be going to ~/Documents/EVE, instead they're going to ~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/p_drive/My Documents/EVE
4) The Universe map is agonizingly slow (13fps). I don't recall this being an issue under Windows ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

besides the known crackling sound issue...
i already had a system lockup while trying to switch resolutions.
looks like the confirmation dialog doesn't show up. so after i switched and tried to close the settings window the previous resolution was re-applied.
in windowed mode this only caused some flickering, but in fullscreen mode it locked up the client, froze the screen and no input was accepted so i had to hard-reset.

I can't believe it. Can it possibly be true? I'll wait 7 minutes for my download to finish before answering my own question ...

Apparently this occurs in some regions. I heard that if you put up a buy order for 100 ISK then raise it 5 minutes later, it will work ... or go to a less busy corner of space.

Should there be a link here to the thread that discusses the procedure for installing the test client (i.e. renaming apps/preferences etc?). I remember reading it, but don't remember the specific steps involved.

Fitting window on my MBP has graphical issues. The central ring is too small and is anchored to the top of the fitting window. Otherwise I've been cruising around with no issues. I'll report the bug later when I can.

Edited by: Remus Navillum on 05/03/2009 21:41:48 The way shadows render is... ehh... wrong. Not sure how to describe it; they sort of render in big, blocky polygonal chunks. Also, when docked half of the ship is covered horizontally in these freaky shadows. I'll post a screenshot in a sec.
[Edit] Turning off shadows fixes it, naturally, but... I like my eye-candy.

It's not just you, although at first glance it appears to be a shader/shadow issue rather than a color one. My portrait looks bleached in the same way as yours, and any number of things ingame appear more "plastic".

patch download crashed after 1hr 30min, full download installed now. and wont even start up :(
Not sure what to say apart from thank **** i installed windows..
Is this because i run 10.4.11 and not 10.5.6?
I expected to run with a couple of extra errors.. but NO client boot?
Edit: this forum even blocks f o o k?

First of all, THANK YOU!!! It looks great, and it didn't immediately crash when I left the station. A couple of items I noticed: Ship fitting window has the layers anchored in the wrong places leaving it looking all jumbled, the "fins" on my minmatar ships don't render at all, and the warp bubble effect is very granular.

Are you using a separate preferences folder for the beta?
If a client won't boot good thing to trash the prefs folder anyway.
I would expect issues with 10.4 CCP has already mentioned that Apple has provided graphics fixes in 10.5 which are important for stability. Other than audio production software that refuses to catch up to Apple's latest OS there isn't much reason to hold back. Even in that case I'd install Leopard on another drive or partition.

[Edit] Turning off shadows fixes it, naturally, but... I like my eye-candy.
The Hulk is particularly effed. Notice the blocky shadows and weird flickering of shadows in places, here and here.
Curvier ships like the Thorax and Megathron end up inexplicably half-bathed in shadow while docked, also with blocky, flickery shadows. Cases in point: this and this.
When undocked, shadows render weirdly whenever the ship changes direction and the sun is hitting it at a different angle. Observe: here, here, and a little bit here.
I'm not sure if the odd shadows while docked are a product of the position of the light source in that particular station type (it certainly wasn't in the previous build of the premium beta). It's kind of hard to tell from the photos, but the way shadows render is really weird. It would be easier to observe if I could capture video, but... I'm both lazy and lacking the software to do so.
As for my setup: Macbook Pro 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 256MB GeForce 8600GT, 10.5.6.
[Edit again] Interestingly, reducing shader quality from high to medium seems to fix the problem in a sense, in that shadows appear to stop rendering altogether. Also, it makes the shaders look a good bit worse.
I just wanted to confirm that I'm experiencing similar issues with shadows turned on. It works fine with them off. Also, the game feels a bit laggy in general, but I imagine that's just because performance issues are probably the last thing to get ironed out. The test client seems fairly stable and is much better than I had been told to expect. Nice work so far CCP, keep up the great work.
I'm running on a 24" iMac 2.33GHz, OSX 10.5.6, NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT

To my eye that looks like more of a Gamma/Brightness Issue rather than colors. most drivers allow applications to change those on the fly, but I'm not sure how Transgaming/EvE messes with that stuff.

Looks very neat on my MacBook Pro 2.16 Ghz 17'' ATI X1600 256 MB and 2 GB Ram
I've have around 20-40 FPS in space and 30+ in station, everything on max with bloom/shadow on, I cant turn it HRD on.
Bug: Fitting window as described Sometimes all the shaders/effects disappear, just for a small amount of time. Might need to optimize the shader loading when undock, quite a lot of client lag, only for the first couple of minutes.
That's pretty much it, looks very nice and runs very smoothly

Edited by: Reyn Atriedes on 06/03/2009 01:37:41 2 things I noticed.
1) The station exteriors weren't displaying properly. There seemed to be graphical chucks connecting parts that weren't supposed to be connected, and some stations just looked like a mishmash of pixels, and didn't look like stations at all. The ships and interiors displayed fine, but the stations themselves weren't looking so good.
2) After about a half hour or so, the game froze and I had to manually restart my computer by pressing the off button.
I have a MBP with:
OSX 10.5.6 Intel 2.4 Ghz Dual Core Processor 2Gb of Ram NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256mb of memory

Worked great on my 4meg Macbook pro for about 90 minutes. Took a trip to W-space. The sound did crackle, but otherwise I very much enjoyed my spin around the block in a new ship. Nice job. The graphics are a great upgrade.
No crashes - heat was under control with the processor. Ran only 1 client in full screen mode.
Good job.

Mac version running *really* well :) :) :) (iMc 20" 2.66GHz, 2GB, 256MB ati radeon HD2600pro).
Got the known crackly sound and some problems with window mode, changing resolutions, quiting and log off, but in game it is going great. 57 fps in premium mode - fantastic. (much better than the initial mac classic release IMHO)
Kudos to the mac group and transgames.
Question: when I bug report with the mac client, do I use a system profiler xml export file instead of a dxdiag file.

Also confirmed. What you're seeing is the shadows Z-fighting. It's a bit weird that it's doing this, TBH. Z-fighting shouldn't be a platform thing... ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |
