I can understand this thread is getting a bit confusing atm; there are huge, offtopic, Mac OS X discussions going on, which have nothing really to do with the feedback requests of the topic ;)
However, currently there is no way to test the new EVE client on Mac OS X. There is no updated patch available yet for the Mac platform. There might be one later tonight still, but I suspect they put all there efforts in the 'Final Release' client that will go live tomorrow on TQ.

Singularity was available again from yesterday evening to today afternoon, then they updated the server but did not release a mac patch (either working or broken but fixable with tweaks). So you cannot test, for the moment.
As for a cross patch to the final version ... we do not know if it will be released. And we do not know what the final version will be.
Assuming they release a patch for the current version that is on SiSi (84063) and that they do not change it at the time of deployment (that is if 84063 is what will be deployed on TQ) then of course you will be able to use the SiSi client to play on TQ. But it has happened before that both SiSi and TQ are updated a couple of times at the very last momenti (that is DURING the long deployment DT). And if that is the case, only CCP can say if they will or will not release an incremental patch or only a full patch/full installer. They have not promised anything in this regard.

Exactly.
And you cannot (unless you are a power user) run two different instances of Final Cut, Aperture etc.

Only solution to run two processes of EvE is to have two separate and slightly different program bundles.
No, you can easily do it by integrating multithreading INSIDE THE PROGRAM. This is the idea, for CCP to MODIFY EVE so that it can handle multiple accounts being logged in and displayed simultaneously. That is NOT a hard thing to do from a programming perspective. If we try to monkey around in the os then it becomes a stupid exercise in hacking, and is not accessible to the general public. I'm suggesting that multiple simultaneous accounts be made into a feature, not that we mess with the OS. NO MESSING WITH THE OS!!! Do I need to repeat that? NO MESSING WITH THE OS!!! One more time for good measure? Sure, NO MESSING WITH THE OS!!!

Therefore, as you say, people that only use the finder need to use twice the disk space. This is a limitation of the finder. Not a limitation of EvE or a limitation of the Os X core.
No, this is the absence of a feature in EvE, and that is all it is. It is not for the user to implement the feature, it is for the programmers at CCP to do it. Why are you so obsessed with hacking the os? Why not simply say, "Hey, that would be a cool feature, good idea!" so that CCP sees that other people, too, would like to be able to run multiple accounts at once from one client (and save almost 5GB of disk space)? You seem determined to argue despite the fact that what you're arguing has nothing to do with my original suggestion nor any position I've advocated. Are you trolling? Is that it?

FAT is obsolete. Windows can write to Mac discs (there are tools that do) because the format is public. Ask MS to embed the functionality if you want it standard. NTFS is proprietary. Ask MS to make it public if you want to write it (plus there are unofficial t
OMG can you READ? It is not a matter of WINDOWS being able to write to my MAC partition, which would be suicidally stupid for me to allow, but of Mac OS X being UNABLE to write to NTFS. I am NOT going to install a third party package for $50 when I can simply format in FAT32 for free.

You suggested to run multiple processes. Go read what you wrote:
Originally by: Eris Gilfaniel If Eve is single threaded, that too is no excuse for avoiding the inconvenience. Simply start another damned process and use the same resources.
I'm just telling you why this is not as easy as you put it.

Do you even understand the difference between multiple processes and multiple threads?
You previously wrote about multiple processes sharing the same resources. And I told you why it is not as easy as you describe it. Now you talk of multiple threads. Well: eve is written in Python with the stackless library. This cannot go multithread. To make it multithred CCP would have to redo the whole project from scratch, reusing basically nothing of the existing code. Do you really think they will do it?
Originally by: Eris Gilfaniel I'm suggesting that multiple simultaneous accounts be made into a feature, not that we mess with the OS.
You forget one thing: running multiple accounts on the same computer IS NOT OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED. If CCP were in a position to be sure that every computer had the power to run multiple accounts, they would use that power to make a better SINGLE login client.
Running multiple accounts from the same computer is NOT a feature they want. It is allowed, but not supported. Can you understand this? You can do it, but it's not a feature.
Besides what you are asking to make it so that you can run multiple accounts WITHOUT using up multiple times the same disk space. And I'm telling you it can be done. No need to mess with the OS. But it cannot be done from the finder. Because the finder is designed to do things the Apple way and the Apple way is that you run only one instance.

Again, what feature are you talking about?
Multiple logins on the same computer is not a feature because CCP does not want it to be a feature. It is possible to do it with a trick (duplicationg the client), but that is not something that CCP officially supports.
If for feature you mean having two copies (not supported but allowed) without using up extra disk, then this is ALREADY possible. But it's not a CCP problem to tell you how to do it.
Originally by: Eris Gilfaniel Why are you so obsessed with hacking the os?
There's NO OS hacking. Hardlinks are a normal OS feature. Time Machine uses them, for example. You cannot create them from the finder. The finder is a simplifyed and very limited tool to manipulate the disk content. Going beyond the finder is not haking. Why are you so obsessed with NOT learning your OS?
Originally by: Eris Gilfaniel OMG can you READ? It is not a matter of WINDOWS being able to write to my MAC partition, which would be suicidally stupid for me to allow, but of Mac OS X being UNABLE to write to NTFS.
That's because Microsoft does not want others to be able to. What will you do when MS finally discontinue booting from FAT (they talked about doing it with XP, but they did not).
Originally by: Eris Gilfaniel I am NOT going to install a third party package for $50 when I can simply format in FAT32 for free.
You can read and write NTFS for free too. Not a native feature because NTFS is not open. Besides ... you do not want to pay to access a FS made by an OS that you have to pay for?

Uhh, no one has to pay a dime to get NTFS write support under Mac OS X. MacFUSE, from the boys at Google, plus the NTFS-3G driver. It's as easy to install as anything else, and it's quite good. Most Linux distros have shipped with it for some time, and it just missed shipping with Leopard; Apple will likely ship Snow Leopard (10.6) with a slightly modified version of it. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Just finished the in-game download, 2.2 GB. It then reported the file was corrupt, and offered me to download it again.
I'm now trying the patch via the web. It's being slow though. I guess no Apocrypha for me today

I've just downloaded new full client - it runs. But still have problems with 35Mb patch. Trying to apply this patch in client i have this: "The patch was downloaded but it failed verification indicating that the file is corrupt... blabla try again" Ones it was it downloaded about 11Mb and said same. I tried to download patch manually from the site - same story: 11.8Mb downloaded -> corrupted file. What to do?..

Downloaded the full client and installed on my iMac.
Client locks up after character selection while trying to load station. Mac was totally locked up and had to reboot by holding down the power switch.
I loaded the same character from my PC (which is working fine BTW) and undocked from the station.
After reboot, I tried with the Mac again. I changed the graphic settings to Low on the sign-in screen and selected my character. My ship displayed in space but then the client locked up again. Once again I had to hard reboot.
I am currently patching my old client and will try again with that when the download is done.

Tried the patch update twice through the old client and both times it came back with the corruption message others are seeing.
Currently downloading a new client from the download section of the website and hoping that it doesn't crash when I login as others seem to be experiencing. |

Each and every one of them. Every step has been taken to make it run better, but to no avail. I dont fault CCP for making this choice about making one unified client, instead of two seperate kinds. But unfortunately it means that I no longer will be able to play this game.

Few issues i came across while running the new client:
1. fps spikes are huge in areas with more then a few objects, this doesnt happen for the windows client on the same mac
2. not all premium graphics settings (namely shadows and bloom) seem to work, even though my videocard (ati 1900xt) supports them
3. no ship sounds
4. texture corruption in warp, also warp lost the sense of speed due to the lack of visual "shaking" (not sure if that last one is a bug or a new feature)
5. crashes when quitting the game

I can't log on on one of my accounts. The character is located inside one of the big caldari stations (Assembly plant ones). Logging with an alt in space and an alt inside a gallente station seems to work fine.
I get the following message: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0b85e000 at address 0x7c361fa3. Do you wish to debug it ?
I think this is a bug. Not sure though. It would be awesome if i could log on in a day or two to switch skills ;)

Just posted this in another thread but figure I might say it here too.

Uh guys... SMC Fan Control is a must!
So yeah... updated it... no problem... no patch so I installed fresh from the server... all 2 GB of it. Took 4 hours to download that puppy... yeah
Graphics are stunning... got them maxed out.
Only crashed once... was messing around in an Level 2 Angel Cartel Complex in high sec. Not sure why it happened... might have been a disconnect?
But looking at Console.. looks like the cider engine is spraying memory leak garbage all over hell. (God I hate this windows crap coding... GO NATIVE CCP! PLEASE!)
I may end up backing down on the graphics settings... but I think the bulk of your problems are going to originate in the following areas:
RAM - You should have a minimum of 2GB... but max it out if you can... you won't be able to run full out. Video - Best you can get your hands on... don't expect to be able to run the best settings either wise.
Its not smooth... tends to jitter every so often.... but I've not had a chance to really break it in. But.. its tolerable.. so long as it doesn't crash.
I must say... I'm very... impressed.

Bugs I encountered thus far:
- Textures around planets (the shadow side) drop behind the planets giving them an immersion breaking flat look
- Sound, is borked up. I did one mission where pocket one had 'normal' sound after I moved to the second pocket the sound sounded like it came from under a wet towel.
Second mission after that sound started to fail, on/ off in the end I got no (battle sounds, lasers explosions etc.) sound at all.
- Salvager sound sounds like a very faint crack with a nickel being dropped in a very small tin cup.

here's my setup: OS: 10.5.6 early 2008 macbook pro 2.2GHz core 2 duo w/ 2GB RAM. 8600M GT 128MB.
i downloaded the full client and installed that. in general, i've had a good experience with the apocrypha so far. after repeated cmd-tabbing, i've only managed to crash the client once! with that crash, i was able to restart the client without having to restart the windowserver. hopefully, that's an indication of improved stability when compared to the classic client.
the graphics are very shiny! however, it looks like the low shader settings have issues. i tried using medium on this system, but there are some scenes that cause severe framerate drop (5-10fps instead of 20-30). with low shader settings, i see frequent occurrences of texture misloads akin to what i've seen with the old classic client. this includes everything from garbage texture loads to translucent coloured polygons in space. i've seen this mostly happen with explosions and other particle effects like the clouds. i haven't seen these screwups occur with shader settings on medium.
in addition, i've also experienced extremely muted sounds for weapons fire and jump gate activation. i have to turn the music down all the way to even hear the aforementioned sound effects. i also hear occasional crackling if the music is turned up (>8). with the music down around 4, i don't hear that.
finally, i noticed that the window resizing has changed in a way that is pretty counter-intuitive. normally, a minimum-sized window will allow you to shrink the window to that size and then stop the resizing. the cursor still moves in the direction of change when this happens. for example, you can see this effect when you shrink a safari window. with windows in eve, this is not what happens. instead, the cursor gets locked onto the resize window edge and sticks there. that's very disturbing as it causes a disconnect between user action and cursor position.
the system.log is a bit chatty. besides the unhandled exception that caused the crash, i see the following message every so often: [0x0-0x360360].com.transgaming.EVEOnline[0]: MACCA_IOInputProc: buffer underrun

I'm on a 1st Gen Mac Pro with X1900 video card (not working with new Eve Premium) and a GeForce 7300 (which is a sucky card but all that'll work for now).
Aside from the graphic card problem I'm having (see my other threads) I've had two crashes which I THINK are different error messages with than the memory leak I had all the time with the last client. Unhandled Page or something like that - new message than I used to get. Before I had to restart my comp or the app would crash repeatedly until I did so - now I played 10-15min again before the same crash. Can I turn off debugging?
