Haven't joined a militia but been considering it on the basis that i am under the impression that it makes finding fights and targets much easier and less of a hassle then low sec pirating, is this true?
Whats the hunting like with faction warfare as the main ground.

Pirating by default is an opportunists game, or if you like 'suprise pvp'.
Factional warfare is something completely different, in fact as I sit here now, the only similarity I can think of, is it is carried out mainly in low sec.

Do both! Join the caldari get 3500+ war targets and Pirate as well.
There is no law that says you can't do both. I know I do as does most of WOLFY when we see a juicy target.. or just something to kill.
FW does not mean you can't be NBSI. Just don't shoot blues hurts your standings to hell in a basket.

Seems like a worth while solution to your predicament.
Just remember that the targets in FW have this strange notion that they should fight back, not you average pirate carebear ganks
Stay clear of the hot-spots which usually have blobs on standby and go roaming in the Gallente backsystems. If there are plexers running around there they usually report enemy movements so you will lots to choose from.
Just don't shoot you own militia members, as that is a fast track out of militia as the faction standings drops like a stone when doing that.
Edit; The people that focus solely on combat and do no plexing can rack up 100+ quality kills every week. Note the quality part, no haulers or noob ships, all battle ready deathbringers in their own right. Mixing in plexing drops that number 20-30% but fights become more even as size restrictions on plexes come into play.

Wolfy 40 Members = 247 kills this month (and its the 5/6th day of the month). Last month we have 1200 kills and zero noob ships or shuttles (can't catch these feckers in low sec).
This months target (for the WOLFY guys to get paid) 1500 kills (at the moment Arkaiser has 84 kills, Eddie 47, Loren (who is very low SP) 42 AND THATS IN LESS THAN 6 days).
You can't knock that.
ninja edit - and we are normally in the top 10 plexers in all FW according to the IC Stats

I should clear this up, i have no idea how faction warfare works to begin with i just assumed it was, a "pvp flag" of sorts
Coming back after quiting since 06

In that case, FW is definitely something you want, if only for a few months. It is essentially just ten thousand people in four factions running around with permanent war-decs towards one another.
There has been a lot of changes made to ships and modules the past couple of years, FW gives you targets to shoot without breaking the bank by not 'requiring' T2 ships to succeed. The beauty of FW is that all ships you engage are combat fitted, live fire exercises are a lot more educational than the 'virtual' encounters with PvE fitted ships.

Yea, the fools that write off plexing entirely are deluding themselves. Plexing/PvP make excellent bed fellows and are having lovely babies on a daily basis
