So long as they dont touch that rubbish utopian ideals concept with a hundred foot pool and some how manage to make the borg even more bad ass in a future film it might be what is needed to revive the franchise.

That being said, the 'fire everything!' comment and watching the planet implode sold me. The movie companies may actually make some money off me this summer because of Star Trek and Terminator 4.

If you like space sci-fi, you have so few options today, that you have to take what you can get. Star trek used to have good ideas, but the last few series and movies have been sucking pretty hard. I'm hoping the new movie might bring new life to the franchise. With the new BSG coming to an end soon, you really have nothing decent left. I'm getting a bit desperate for something worth watching in the genre.

Can agree, but sci fi in my eyes has always been cheesy or just not worth watching.
if you need inspiration for future technology's or ideas for inventions, some of the best and probably only sources I can find are from books.
Although to be fare we are in the 21`st century I guess were not watching Sci fi any more but were immersed in it.

I have a real dislike for Star Trek, but what JJ Abrams has done looks promising as a movie. Plus, I guess I have to go see it for Simon Pegg.
