It's a good place to find opportunities and do business. GJ on the mods, keeping it mostly clean of unrelated spam and scams.

Edited by: Wile Fett on 02/03/2010 12:49:32 Cant say i have personaly witnessed any 'spamming' of this channel's details anywhere in EVE. I was invited to this channel over a year ago while trying to sell a kosher contract in Jita local.
Since then i come and go as i please. Great channel for escaping the scuum of New Eden (AKA scammers). It does seem well monitored.
Only minor glitch i had was while advertising a Lottery link to an Eve-O thread. I got muted for doing so, but 1 quick convo to the admin to point him in the direction of my previously successful lotteries removed the mute.
All-in-all very handy channel to have, donation sent o7

A very well run service, and quite useful. I have had a good amount of success here, especially combined with the public trade channels. A benefit to the EVE community.

I'm just curious...why are we limited to the 3rd parties we can use. Shouldn't the decision on if the person wants to buy a lottery ticket based on the third party be up to them?
I'm using Melleia (a relitively new third party, but everyone needs a chance in my opinion)...because from what I've seen, he responds to me very quickly (the other two I tried seemed to just ignore my evemails...), which is rather important in lotteries.
So, I can't post my ad in this channel simply because of my choice of third party? That seems a little harsh to me.
Is there a specific reasoning behind this?

Or rather, that I'm listed in the channel's MOTD as a third party, and thus would assume that lotteries that I secure would be allowed to be advertised.

This is a special issue because usually we tend to vouch for the services that are in the motd.
Melleia simply bought advertising on the channel.
that doesn't entitle his service to anything regarding the legit trading channel except that we have an agreement to keep his ad in the motd for the time he paid for .
Beyond this a 3rd party with only ~15B is a rather young 3rd party therefor we don't really have enough data to judge his capacity to remain a legitimate 3rd party for large sums of isk.
this will be reviewed when he secured more isk.
We don't make people pay to be on our 3rd party list and we never will do it.
and to finish : our best interest is to preserve the legit trading channel users against any type of deception to steal their isk in one way or another.
For now we will allow Melleia to be a 3rd party for lotteries with prizes worth less or equal to 1.5B isk.

I guess that's a start, my only problem is I plan on going over that 1.5Bil ISK mark eventually, so in that case I'll need to contact another third party. One I've already contacted has stated he doesn't have room for more lotteries, another never responded, and I haven't tried Chribba yet.
In a case where all 3 of them are full and can't offer service, this leaves people that could be legit (not proven scammers) unable to advertise a legitimate service.
While I completely understand you are trying to prevent scams from occurring, why are lotteries any different than anything else. For everyone else you don't ban them from the channel until they actually DO scam, but in essence...people using other Third Party Services are 'banned' simply because they aren't a known quantity yet (and in doing so, can't use this excellent method of helping to raise their trust..kind of a lose-lose situation for them).
I'm not arguing because I do understand your view, I just think it's a policy that needs to be looked at more in-depth. Keeping people from posting that have not been proven scammers hurts the little guys as well as helping to prevent scammers. So it's kind of a grey area to me, is it win or lose?

Alternatively we allow anyone to advertise a lottery in the channel based on the fact that they had 1 or more successful lotteries.
This is also a way to test the motivation of the potential channel users.
Based on this fact anyone who is serious about running lotteries can run one and advertise it everywhere , once their first lottery is over they can advertise forever in the channel ( if they remain legitimate ) .

Thanks for the post!
When I purchased the advertising space, I had assumed that the lotteries I secured would be allowed to be advertised. Of course, I did not expect in any form that I was vouched for and/or promoted by Legit Trading.
As for the third party list, I didn't even know a list of "accepted" third parties existed, or else I wouldn't have told my client that I believed it OK to advertise in the Legit Trading channel. My apologies for that.
And thank you very much for your compromise, everyone has to start somewhere, right? :)

Ah, that makes perfect sense then. I read that part and I guess it just didn't click because I was focussing on the Third Party Issue.
This brings me to one more question, do you consider a successful lottery a close lotto thread, or just a post in a multi lotto thread saying one of them successfully completed? (I ask because my current thread I was planning on keeping open and just running multiple lottos from it).
Thanks for taking the time to answer!
