Who here played Anarchy Online and took part in the ARK at some point in time? (volunteer GMs)
I did. It was cool, until you began to see all the stupid things players did and the infractions they get against themselves. Couldn't believe a lot of it.
Here you have a guy that exploited a few times, griefed even more times (which was against AOs rules) and had a tendency to verbally harass people. You get a petition from him and you have to pretend you don't know any of these things and act as if you really care about his issue.
Oh how I miss AO, wish they would finish the new engine already! AO is still alive? How? And aren't they F2P now?
They are F2P, but only for Notum Wars. You can upgrade to Shadowlands for 5 bucks a month or go all out and pay 15 bucks a month for the entire game.
They've added a whole slew of expansions, addons, an MT store, a few new systems and areas, but, as was mentioned, they're still working on the new engine and apparently have a very small team working on it. Doesn't help that the population is much tinier than it used to be.

This is a bit offtopic for this thread but meh..
AO was/is a pretty cool game and it was sad to see the game decline. I left once it was clear they had almost no devs still working on it, in favor of AOC.
One thing AO had that was very cool was the ability to set up those corp chatbots. At one point I was all caught up in that and forgot to play, I had a few of the corp bots and were working on finishing a helpbot.
Fun times. (Never made it past level 90 ish on any char.) Features & Ideas Discussion: Agent Finder, Black Holes Needs a banner here.. |

Hmmm. Is it because of this type of crap you guys have to deal with?

Just shutup already. Take an aspirin. If pain persists consult your local priest. |

I bet it was you that got me killed once on noob island, when you suddenly appeared infront of me with a "Greetings!". lol! The greetings were the fun part. Most of the time, people were just happy to have someone to talk to that knew what they were doing.
I was quickly ostracised.
Chaotic Neutral does not work well in Lawful "Good" environment.
I have helped far more people as a president of an org that I would ever have done as an ARK. First off, I can tell them specific things about how to play better, not just general guide lines. I can link people to various third party sites. I can give them items and credits to get along their way. I can be a friend and a contact. I can let them join a group want to support them further (one of our main goals)
So forth and so on. ARK was pretty hollow with a lot of rules and a lot of brown nosing. Half the people there were there for the wrong reasons. The only time that they are needed is for technical issues. Even things like harassment and other social issues can usually be dealt with by the players if they really wanted to do that. As a programmer, I probably would have dealt with those technical issues a whole lot better than constantly escalating them to the overworked staff. CSM - Do you think? You see if they ruin high sec and WHs, you are ripping the newbie uterus out of EVE and feeding it to the big alliances. When it is gone, they will starve and die. |

Clearly, you need iron skin... and an ability to forgive dumbasses for their histrionics...
I had neither the last time I decided to GM.. ended up getting run out of a fairly nice game by a player who targeted me specifically... Just learn to roll with it. =)
Good Luck. |
