My laptop doesn't support pixelshader 2.0 and I'm not in a position to afford a new one. Is there any way I can still play EvE on it? |

Edited by: EmpressShiva on 10/03/2009 15:03:17 you could look for shader model faker software, 3d Analyze. It's pretty unreliable but it can work.
you could also try running an emulated operating system with VMware, i'm not quite up with the specifics but it may emulate shader model 2 through CPU. More stabs in the dark.

I'm affraid the best option is to get a $30 second hand desktop or something. If you insist on using your laptop, let the client run at the desktop and hook your laptop up through a program such as VNC.
Anyway, no easy way to get it to work. ---

well you can get a new computer that does run eve for fairly cheap.
tbh , really cheap ...
A geforce 7600 card will probably run it smoothly ... and they're cheap as hell.
but if you really don't have the money , you can always try :S ..

Pixel Shader 2 emulator :)
http://www.reaper-x.com/2006/10/20/pixel-shader-hardware-tnl-emulation/ <<< info about P-S 2.0 emulation
http://www.3dcenter.org/atuner/index_e.php <<< A-Tuner (soft for pixel shader 2.0 emulation, it emulated NV40 gpu witch support pixel shader 2.0 but NOT 3.0
dont ask me how to set-up this program cuz i have totally no idea - but it will decrese performance (yet it actually can do that) by a lot ! :(

I already mentioned 3d analyze.. having used it before; most new effects will be white blobs of fun.

This laptop was a juggernaut back in the day. It was designed to do advanced simulations, so it has enough computing power to run pixel shader emulation, but not the required graphics card for EvE now.

You surely jest. the USB transfer rates cannot sustain the required for a modern card videocard.
16 Gb/s versus 480Mb/s ?

Guys like Zurry are the reason Eve doesn't properly support Crossfire and multi-core. CCP is busy making sure people with Pentium 2's and G3's can still play.

Here is a barebones system that you should be able to afford.
Tiger Direct

Holy crap with shipping it is less than $300. You will need a DVD drive but it can wait... ---------- This post brought to you by the worst PVP'er in Eve |

I patched right before I left for work. I downloaded it within 45 minutes. It went throught the installation and the log in screen came up. It said client not accpeting log ins and there were 20 people on. I previously had the classic client installed because my laptop would not support the premium graphics.
So I ask when I get home do you all think that it will launch or will I have to install the premium client?
I ask this because I have read that if you did not have the premium client installed it would not work.

For a lot of ppl you need to understand that its not wether you have old or new laptops its that a lot of you ppl get shafted when buyin those "amazingly priced" laptop packages with a brand new processor shiny screen and then they stick you with a "new video card" that its actually like 3-4 years old just recircuited and renamed and that's why so many say "but my laptop/pc is only 2 years old wth". Yea well i fell for that myself and the answer is do your research when buying a pc, or have someone who knows about it come with you.
If you are just getting a laptop for work use, (i.e. Internet explorer, WORD, EXCEL) and you got a great deal dont expect it to keep up with games from the last 4 years, most of the times that's how it is with packaged computer deals cant have all for a great price.
EvE has come a long way and in order to keep up with other games by revamping their graphics, sorry for the people whose's systems cant keep up anymore but they need to keep doing this so we feel we are playin a new game and not just some 2d full of text garbage from 6 years ago. My comp didn't support pixel shader 2.0 either. I sold a LOT of plasma and spent 1200$ on a new comp.
Now I'm lightheaded and having bios problems... but at least I'll still be able to play eve (unless I crash )
