So,
After I patched the client with Apocrypha, my sound is not working properly in EVE. The introductory cinematics, the one shown right after logging in, and the race specific ones in the character creation process, get audio hang-like behaviours. It's hard to explain it with words but, it's as if the audio stream was put into some kind of bottleneck, you hear the same half a second fragment of audio over and over again, it kind of stucks. This also happens with weapon turret audio effects, and may involve other game audio that I haven't noticed yet.
It happens both in fullscreen and windowed mode, BUT, only if EVE is in foreground. If I'm in windowed mode and just press the 'Windows Key' I hear all the audio smooth as if nothing, if I take EVE back as foreground application, I'm back to audio hangs. This is the same behaviour with fullscreen mode, where ALT+TAB applies. This wasn't happening in Quantum Rise and earlier versions of the game.
I have a Soundblaster X-FI Extrememusic rigged with the latest drivers, which I downloaded and installed today in the hope of fixing this issue, and my SO is WinXP SP3.
Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem? |

i get distorted sound effects and also the station sounds still play even though im out in open space.... also sheild boost effect doesnt work.... warp effect looks crap it feels more like ab is on rather than warping and it plays a chainsaw cutting through a pvc pipe noise... awful sound effects.... have ccp sound techies been taking drugs? and the jump sound effect is horrible too
cloak shows like a crystal ship not the older way (which was better)

So hardware sound support has been disabled? weird...
I also find the old cloaking effect better, and the warp effect feels like.. meh.
BTW why does my character have no portrait here in the forums?

While I understand your point, posting these issues is a must. Also, these bugs are expected to be found and debugged in the test server don't you think?

im having probs with the sounds too
only the big stargates (minmatar gates that look like giant gun barrels) have sound, and even then not every time, the smaller ones (the two part ones) have no sound, EVER.
the ship engine sound is WAY OFF, its like it was recorded in a wind tunnel, it no longer has that crisp roaring sound like before. combine that with the warping effects and it really makes my ears bleed.
also the overall sounds in the game feel like they are run through a filter, they are all muffled, distant, where the old ones were clear, crisp, sharp and always present, its like the settings are all over the place or out off balance.

Confirming sounds are muted, even when I set the soundcard drivers to "5.1 surround with only two speakers".

warp sound missing. lazersound only, when lazorbeams shoot nearly through my camera view. rocket explosions on my ship once in a minute hearable.
Stereo Sound set, with two speakers. worked like a charm with QR.

Yep sound is very, very off for me as well.
* Only music, station, and UI sounds are normal levels. * Can't hear my guns (artillery cannons) * Can't hear NPC guns against me (missiles, blasters, you name it) * Can barely hear warp sounds * Can barely hear gate sounds
And as noted the hardware audio has been disabled it seems. I'm sure this will be fixed soon... I *hope* it'll be fixed soon.

This thread got some more info.
Some guy posted that EVE now uses 5.1, I went to my X-Fi drivers and said I had a 5.1 system (even tho I don't) and I got some "more" sounds. First I had basicly nothing except my own ships firing, and only when zoomed in extremely close.
Now I have alot more sound, including all other firing, but it still sometimes 'crashes out'. As if it is buffering, same thing I have in EVE voice. Takes a while to 'load' sound, then it works, then it buffers/loads, works a while, etc. -

Agreed. I like to switch between headphones/speakers, and doing that is very difficult not.
Also, I'm having all the other sound problems, too. ттт ттт ттт ттт ттт ттт т Growing old is mandatory. т Growing up is optional.

Edited by: Seretetia on 11/03/2009 13:13:22 Has nothing to do with 5.1 / Stereo whatever sound. I run with a 5.1 Home Cinema here and got the same sound bugs too.
And i can tell you it is VERY ANNOYING to play a game without sound. Wonder if they are already working on it....

NPC rats hit you with fire, and you hear nothing. Each 10 missiles launched only generates a single missile explosion sound on target. zooming in and out on locked objects mess the general sound picture even more.
Dock, and "in station sound" is way too loud and makes u reduce world sound bar asap ( returning to above settings again)

I too am having huge sound issues after patching. Current drivers for my X-Fi Fatal1ty Titanium Champion series, and it worked just fine before patching without any issues.
-I have speaker popping now after the patch, this seems to happen every 15 minutes or so.
-I do not get 5.1 sound anymore, it's now dropped to 2.1 even tho I have 5.1 enabled.
-Running scanners or Salvagers of any kind results in a crackling in addition to the sonar-like ping effect.
-Can barely hear some aspects of the game while others are un-godly loud.
- I do not like having to be crawling up my ships ass to be able to hear anything while playing, that is just annoying.

Intro movie sound is non existent or loops the same sound repeatedly. No audio hardware support. Sound in general whether in game or at the first menu stutters to the point where it's become unbearable to listen to. I.e station sounds, sound like gibberish due to stuttering, Warp and Docking messages stutter, engine, weapons, music all stutter. Sometimes there are pops and crackles.
I also noticed that when running fraps running EVE seems to freeze fraps every time the sound stutters although there is no actual drop in the frame rate. I also noticed through my LCD time display on my keyboard that EVE skips 5-10 seconds when the stuttering occurs.
Like someone else said, none of these problems occur when EVE is run in the back ground. But as soon as it is maximized the problem reoccur.
Seriously the game is totally unbearable on the ears with sound enabled.
Weird thing is it ran fine the first time after a fresh install of EVE. But subsequent runs have had the sound stuttering issue. None of my other games have this issue. And this DID NOT occur in Quantum Rise.

i notice a lot of sounds are missing, and everything is at a much lower volume, the settings i need to keep my speakers on now, just to hear anything, would have been uncomfortably loud a week ago
everything, except the acceleration gate(in missions) sound, which is about twice as loud, and has a much larger active radius then any combat sound i.e, if i'm close enough to hear any sounds at all, and am within 50km from the acceleration gate, i need to focus to hear anything over the droning of that acceleration gate
and btw, i REALLY HATE that stupid acceleration gate sound, i have heard whine in broken speakers that sounds better.

I also have the same sound problems. Cant hear my ship firing, other sounds are intermittent and muffled. Playing level 4 missions all I hear is an occasional explosion and the acceleration gate (which is apparently working just fine) WRMGRMRUMRUMGRMWRUMGRUMRRRRMMGRUM....

Theres a "workaround" for the gates sound: Open the options screen, disable sound, enable sound, close the Options. Acceleration Gate Sounds than aren't played anymore (for me) until the next time...
But it at least helps when doing mission next to a gate.

The update has brilliant sound effects. I'm running just a 2.1 system but i cant hear them unless i am zoomed in on my own ship. and then its still not working 70% of the time.

CCP,
Please fix the in-game sound problem. All in-space sounds are way too quite. At full zoom in the sounds are decent enough. Problem is that you don't have to zoom out hardly any at all till you hear noting. That makes the battles pretty boring.
This sound problem is making the whole game pretty boring for me.
