Having the same problems since the patch. Not able to hear my guns a vast majority of the time (they suddenly become audible sometimes for no reason) Yet I can hear other people's guns/npc's guns.
Also stargate humming stays on constantly sometimes, even when they are no where near, or even when I'm docked.
Reported problem to CCP, but was told to update my drivers. (which i did to no effect) but given the volume of people with the same problem it's quite obvious that it's a bug with the patch.
Oh and the new minmatar ship engine sound effects sound like they have been taken out of Mario Kart (terrible change imo)... not a bug but thought I'd add it because it horrible.

Ever played Warcraft? Nothing gets fixed in that. Ever.
CCP on the other hand fix stuff eventually.

Hahaha.
If there's one thing Bliz does right, it's polish their game and tackle bugs and problems relatively quickly. On the other hand, EVE has bugs that have been around longer than WoW has existed. |

Blizzard gets rid of bugs after many months, perhaps, but only ends up replacing them with new ones.

My initial reactions are that this problem is now solved with the latest client update, but I haven't been in the game a lot out in space or fighting/mining, etc.
Anyone else notice any thing?

Yes, I notice that its exactly the same minus a few bugs. You still can not hear anything outside max zoom. At normal game play settings, the game has NO sound. Basically the game now blows.

I've been getting clicks, pops and sound outages every time anything happens to my structure; that's damage or repairing. Anyone else getting this?

Well, a lot of sound issues seems to be related to channel assignment. EX: UI sounds (scanner, button clicks etc) are linked to the left-back and right-back channels instead of Center (in 5.1 enviroment).

My game is dead silent 98% of the time. No music, no ship sounds, no explosions, no warp, no mining-laser, NOTHING.
One of ~ every 7 days i get station sounds, that's all.

Experiencing the same problems: sometimes I don't hear turrent sounds, and sometimes left and right channels produce a "clicking sound". Hope this gets fixed soon. |

Edited by: WheatGrass on 01/07/2009 00:08:56 I submitted a bug report just prior to the last update. It seems that when the Eve client patchers shut down the client, the audio would still play like a scratched record. It didn't happen this last time. So, I solved the ticket.
Other stuff...
I just solved my second X-Fi based sound problem in a manner very similar to an earlier X-Fi based sound problem.
The first problem was with an X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-E card installed on an ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe motherboard. That problem was solved by removing the discrete card and enabling the embedded Realtek audio.
The second problem was with an ASUS Xonar D2X PCI-E card on a Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard. I fixed that problem today by removing the discrete card and enabling the embedded Realtek audio.
The benefit of these ingenious actions is that the audio can be, once again, fed to the front audio ports of the computer case. That allows me to plug stereo speakers into the headphone jack up front while the surround sound headphones are plugged into the back of the motherboard -for that very special day when CCP decides to add sound to the game. It also will likely solve the problem with linux support for X-Fi based cards. (Now to yank my CrossFire and swap it out with a single NVIDIA card -hopefully free from manufacturing defect)
I got tired of the snap crackle pop of the Creative Labs based cards -which was the problem both times.
--- Now for something a little off topic...
If I stand outside of the international space station and bang on it with a stick, will the station occupants hear it?
If a plumber arrives on the scene in a Soyuz module to fix the toilet again and sees me out there banging on the station... and decides to inform the occupants of what is being observed... and does so by sending a live video feed to the occupants... will the station occupants suddenly stop hearing me due to their changed vantage point? I didn't think so. So, what's up with the proximity sound and where's the adjustment or on / off button for it? Still, I've had a change of heart and may not actually quit Eve Online just because of the audio situation which I ranted about in the Apocrypha Issues thread.
If any of you are using X-Fi based audio cards, the following are some links to Mickey Mouse ideas which might help. Soyuz, ISS.. ISS, Soyuz... Go ahead Soyuz. Soyus, ISS... Plumber Bob here. Say, are you aware that you've got an Eve Online player outside of your station banging on it with a stick? ISS, Soyuz... Affirmative, Bob. We confirm that an irate Eve Online player is outside banging on the station. We know he is irate because of the way his lips are moving. Soyuz, ISS... I'm sending you a video feed now. Please tell me if you recognize the individual. ISS, Soyuz... Uhhh... Thanks, Bob. Yes. We have reason to believe that his name is WheatGrass. Soyuz, ISS... Let me zoom in to at least 5k so that you can be doubly sure. ISS, Soyuz... Bob!!! Back off the camera already!! The noise is deafening!! Soyuz, ISS... Sorry about that, station. I'm back out to 75K now. Pause... Station, please explain why it appears that my zooming apparently effects your in-station sound volume. ISS, Soyuz... Plumber Bob, your inquiry has been noted in our database. Please be advised that your role on this mission is to fix the American toilet -not to question the laws of MMOG science. Soyuz, ISS... Right. -Sorry 'bout that ISS.
...Pause...
ISS, Soyuz... Soyuz, ISS... Go ahead ISS. ISS, Souyz... Uhhh... Bob, would you mind zooming back in to at least 20k. We can't hear each other talking in here. Soyuz, ISS... Ummmm... Right. That's in work. Soyuz clear.

Maybe I was too quick to launch into Creative Labs based cards. Even after removing my ASUS Xonar D2X PCI-E card, I'm having a similar problem with the integrated Realtek ALC889A. Intermittently, I notice a loud POP noise. This sometimes happens when initiating warp. It also happens, sometimes, when reaching warp speed and when resizing minimized in-game windows. I've opened a bug report with the usual DxDiag file and screen shot of in-game audio settings.
I don't notice these problems outside of the Eve Online game.

I also noticed a popping sound but usually after I blow up a ship only I don't get that sound....just a crack or pop... OH and the invulnerability field mod drowns out all the sounds!!!
I also have a Realtek High Definition Audio system and have tried all settings but changes nothing in the game. What has happened to this game?? II The Knights of Gemini Forums II

My bug report was "Attached to a defect". So, CCP is aware of the POP problem and is likely working towards a solution. I'm speculating that the bug might not be related to the type of audio hardware used.
Putting aside my personal preference as to how in-game sound should work... this POP issue appears to be a real bug.

I am having sound issues as well. They touted the new audio system as being so great, but I have had nothing but problems since Apocryphia update. I have had most of the same problems as everyone else here, and I also have the X-Fi Xtreme series card running on Vista 64. I have noticed that it seems to pop more for me when I am jumping through Acceleration gates in missions. as soon as I activate the gate it starts popping.
