Edited by: Satans Dragon on 10/03/2009 21:50:32 Edited by: Satans Dragon on 10/03/2009 21:49:16 I didn't think they would cancel classic. If i would have known that i would not have put my time into the game developing characters. I'm trying the patch to see if it works because i don't want to loose my characters but if it doesn't work i'm getting my money back. i'll just call my credit card company and file a dispute. this is obviously unfair since you have to build your character up to reach the better levels of the game. however you shouldn't be required to buy new hardware. i'll be sure to contest this. it's not just the money it's the time i put into the game developing my characters which eve obviously doesn't value. Thanks for being tight wads eve! Sneaky trick. I guess you can't earn your money or respect fairly.

yes but it says you have to have higher grade of graphics card. i'm not buying any hardware. if it doesn't work on what i had before i'll have to quit. i'm on a limited budget and i'm not getting new hardware. that isn't what i understood when i signed up. the game worked in my trial and it should have continued to work. anyway this is becoming a real pain.

So devs aren't allowed to upgrade the graphics over time for their games, they must stick with an old engine for all eternity?
Get real. Technology advances, welcome to the real world.

If your income is based on subscribers then good business is to keep your subscribers happy, if people have to upgrade computers to keep playing then they gonna lose subscribers.

Good luck with claiming the money back from your CC company...
I think you will find that you paid for access to Eve - It's neither the fault of CCP nor the fault of your CC company that you didn't read up on the forthcoming (at the time you signed up) patch which would mean your computer is now unable to log into the game.
You can still access what you paid for, just not with the pile of crap computer you have.

/facepalm
I've said this before so many times...
If CCP didn't keep upgrading Eve and adding new features it would get stale and stagnate, old subscribers would get bored (and leave), new people would not stay beyond the trial period as they would not be impressed by the "shineys" (or lack thereof).
I know some older players would be happy playing Eve as it was in the "good old days" but many more would not.
Dropping the Classic client (along with the Linux one) also makes economic sense in the current financial climate - less overheads as the codebase needing support is smaller (only Mac and Windows Premium now where tyhey had 4 clients to code and debug before).
Iceland is in financial meltdown at the moment so it makes a lot of sense to keep dev costs as low as possible.
On an aside: Were WoW players happy when Blizzard dropped support for every version of windows before XP? Were Runescape players happy when Jagex changed from what is now called RS classic to the newer engine (with higher system requirements)?
Also: When The Sims 2 was getting regular expansions the requirements were very dependant on how many expansions you had and which ones, many players ended up unable to play at the same detail level they could before (sometimes it wouldn't run at all because they started out at "minimum requirements" for the base game).

wait... let me try to get this straight.
You dont have time to read anything, not even the "minimum specs" but you read all about eve and where to get and stuff?
and then you have an 12 year old pc that doesnt even can run a simple shader model 2 ?
ok.. you might not have read the blogs.. i know in ONE of the blogs (you didnt read) they said "i can total run that on an amiga" so i guess that card must be even better than you c64 ?
please dont complain, if you have no time to even read the minimum specs then dont fracking whine about that it wont work

Edited by: Che22a on 10/03/2009 22:37:57 Edited by: Che22a on 10/03/2009 22:36:25 One would assume when you commit to a game that uses such hardware that becomes as rapidly obsolete as a PC, that the very nature of an evolving and POPULAR game such as eve would eventually require a hardware upgrade on the clients' side if it is to remain competitive in its field.
Don't be a cheapskate. Go spend the 30 dollars it takes to upgrade to a card that supports shader 2.
Edit: Btw the bank that owns your credit card won't do anything about the charges. Read the EULA. You pretty much agreed to accept whatever CCP wants to slide down your throat.

As a Software dev myself, I can understand that supporting mutiple versions of a client, to satisfy the numptyness of those who do not wish to upgrade from their comidor64's to something that can display text in more than 8 colours wastes time and resourses which can be put to good use, in other aspects of the software to drwa new player base who would like to make use of the quad-core, 1TB, 2x SLI 9800GTX(S) 1GB DD3 PC they just blew $5k on, as well keep it from going stale for the old vetrans, who dont mind spending HALF of the cost of their monthly subscription to purchase off e-bay a card made 3years ago, which would equate to double the minimum specs, in order to carry on playing.
Your obvious rant... you're either a noob who hasnt spent enough time to get really into the game to invest the price of a Big mac meal to upgrade your(or your mom's) stone tablet.
Or you have been playing for quite some time, and think EVE is really crap, since every time you fire your lazers/or launch a missle, your screen freezes up for 10minutes.
Either way... your loss will equate to a 6pack of beer, I'll gladly mail a Midmar Liquirs gift voucher to CCP so their devs dont loose any drinking time/sleep over it.

I wrote a reply to this but it seems being a klutz, i accidently wrote it in a 'report' window rather then a reply to topic window. So annoying the way they have that bloody report thread hyperlink at the top in the place every other forum under the goddamn sun has a reply hypertext. Trust ccp to be differant....
Eventually what i was going to say: Some UK CC companies allow a charge back at the customers request.

How about some sympathy here guys!
Not everyone expects that they should need to upgrade their gfx card when they subscribe to a game after running is successfully in a trial. As for me, it's only been a few weeks since I started, and having read much about the new update, I was shocked after applying the patch only to find the new client would not support my gfx card.
I'm thinking the key issue here is the lack of communication. As far as I can tell, there was know warning that Premium lite's replacing of classic would enforce any requirement for a hardware upgrade. If you can prove me wrong, I'd welcome a link in which CCP announced this eventuality. I'm sure this is fine for those of us who can afford hardware upgrades every time our fps drops below a guzzillion, unfortanetely not all of us can be so frivolous.

oh and this :
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=channel&channelID=3512
and it took me 2 minutes to find this.
Quote: The Plan What we'd like to do is a two step approach to ensure that EVE continues to be jaw-dropping gorgeous:
Step 1: In Apocrypha, March 10th, we discontinue support for ShaderModel 1, making ShaderModel 2 (GeForce FX (5 series) or ATi R300 series cards or compatible) the minimum requirement and discontinue the "Classic client" version of EVE, replacing it with "Premium Lite"
Step 2: In the Winter Expansion 2009 we are considering discontinuing support for ShaderModel 2 and make the minimum specification ShaderModel 3(GeForce 6 class cards or ATi x1300 or compatible)
We know this will affect some players out there. What we don't know is exactly how many. We estimate that about 95% of all subscribers currently have hardware that is SM2 compatible. We further predict that in q4 this year over 97% of subscribers will have SM3 capable hardware. This means that an estimate of anywhere from 3%-5% of current subscribers would have to update their computers or graphics cards to be able to continue playing.

Okay many thanks for that... It seems the time I put in to reading about the new update didn't go deep enough to be in know. I'm pretty sure those patch notes only came out during the extended DT. I guess I better make a point of spending even more time reading everything I can about future updates when another one is due.
Don't get me wrong... CCP are awesome for making this game. But this kind of thing really should have been made more obvious for anyone who hasn't spent enough time researching the hardware requirements for the update.
