OK, my main rig runs premium Eve with all the fixins, but the laptop I sometimes take with me on trips is crap and could barely run the classic client. So, now I'm screwed while on the road, right? NO! This guy (Lenhaj) on the whining thread in general mentioned a piece of software called "3D Analyze" that tricks Eve into thinking that your computer supports SM2. Well, I tried it and it works! Good enough to change skills and chat, anyways! Here's what I did:
1. Go download 3D-Analyze. Google the name and grab it. It's freeware, btw, so don't freak out. Extract it to a folder somewhere.
2. Put a batch file called eve2.bat or something like that in your root eve directory that has just "C:\progra~1\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe" inside it. Use notepad or edit or whatever.
3. Start up 3d-analyze and hit the "select" button, and navigate the file thingie to the batch file you created.
4. checkmark all of the boxes under "hardware limits(cap bits)" and "ANTI-DETECT MODE". For good measure, checkmark the "skip pixel shader version 2.0" box, as well.
5. Hit the run button, and after a time, Eve will start up without complaining about your crappy gpu! For the love of God, hit esc and turn everything to the lowest settings now!
6. Enjoy playing Eve at 2 FPS on a computer never meant for 3d gaming!
I hope this helps some people!

these settings work for geforce 3 ti200, game runs fine with no noticable lag. Have yet to try PVP as server went offline for scheduled downtime at 11:00 Euro as I was testing.
Seems CCP just blocked certain older cards with hardware detect. Game still runs if you hide your card from them. Havent checked some ingame 3d models for ships yet to see where it whites out. Will do a report on what works and what doesnt. Should allow people to at least skill their accounts thou.
by the way that client doesnt mess with the broswer functionality if you download from official site and is freeware, and doesnt change anything with the CCP files so isnt a breach of EULA.

thanks guys. i'm technical idiot and it took me some time to get it working. it does work :)
it's great to know that there are some actually solving a problem rather than barking at people having laptops.
graphics look like mid-1995, but i can live with that. it's not representation, but content, which makes eve worth playing. you saved ccp an account paying :)

Hey yeah as I said, its a temporary fix that just allows you to skill, undock and move about etc so you can get into the game and do the essentials whilst exploring a second hand gfx card option or a new pc etc. I have tried a few things in game and there is some lag once you are out of the stations. I found that NPC and player ships rendered as solid black with no textures and asteroids dont look right either, just blobs, but the basic engine is functional. Stations and Gates partially render but you get no effects other then sound. Its not great and doesnt look as good as the old classic version but will hopefully stop a few rage quits if people are still skill etc whilst looking at a more permenant option, so thanks very much to Surly Bob for posting this tool.
I've been looking at a cheap AGP card as the ebay auctions are going mental at the moment...
anyone got any ideas on if this one would be compatible with the new build of eve? and if its value for money? I have no idea about gfx cards as I've not needed to upgrade in a decade. GeForce 6200 256MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (AGP)

As vargrh said. I can now use my crappy latop to change skills and set market orders. Great find!
I would not bother with a 6200 card tbh. It was really low end when it was introduced (5 years ago). It does support sm 3.0 but it has seriously bad performance.
I'd go for something a little more decent;

Mmm... X1k series... I had an X1950 Pro for a good while at the start of the year last year, before building a new system, with a Phenom and the brand-new, at the time, 3870X2. Unfortunately, the thing died shortly before getting said system, which was the prompt for getting the fresh computer. I've since made the jump to a PhII 940 and 4870 1GB and handed the older build to family.
Hm. My work computer here has an X1300Pro... It seems to not have any trouble with Apocrypha, though I really haven't tried anything serious with it, since I AM at work, and shouldn't be playing.
Sorry for the ramblings.. ---- "Sounds like a bad case of pikal envy, if you ask me."

that 6200 could work but as said is an old core, now a 6600 would be fine even upto 7600 in AGP. if you want the best in the GF6 series look for a 6600 (nv43 A1-A2) this version didnt have its extra pipelines laser cut unlike the NV43-A3/A4. infact the NV43-A1/A2 runs a 6800 core.
7600 AGP are also cheap and a slight improvement on the 6600. better still you could try looking for a NV6800gt.
another note, you need too be careful some Nvidia card state 512mb but infact only have 256 mb installed, these cards use your computers memory too beef up the cards memory and in turn means your machine will struggle.
so too top it off a 6200 if your totaly broke and want too play with minimum settings. the 6600 -6800 they come fairly cheap and the later 6800gt will allow a few settings. the 7600 upwards is your best bet with SM3 (shader model 3)will allow some fancy graphics with half decent framerates.
im not sure but check with laptops manual and website, some laptops were able too have cutdown gfx cards installed that was made for laptops. like i said im very unsure on this infomation so check laptop manuals-websites-interweb.
be careful buying second hand hardware, they may say it works and when you recieve item it could be borked or fried. dont overclock secondhand graphics cards theres a good chance its near the end of its life and teh reason it was sold on.

Make sure the batch file contains a link to the ExeFile.exe in the bin folder and not the Eve.exe in root. Also I found the full directory listing didn't work. i.e. C:\Program Files\... must be C:\Progra~1\... as OP said.

Did you link the exefile.exe in the /bin folder in the .bat file? I don't think this works if you link the eve.exe in the eve install dir.

Edited by: Bunni Lebowski on 12/03/2009 15:53:46 I am having difficulty following your instructions or figuring out how this software works. First of all - you left out the part where you install the software. Then, you don't (and they don't) explain how running a blank batch file will somehow magically start up eve? Do I save the batch file after i make the changes? If so, what points it to the EVE.exe?
When I click "Run" I get the following error: "Could not copy C:\Documents...\ForceDLL.dll to C:\Program Files\...\EVE\ForceDLL.dll !"

To the two above: are you running Vista? 3D analyzer will try to copy some temporary files to the directory you placed the eve.bat file. This probably means you will need administrator rights. (I am not familiar with Vista, running XP myself).

We can't link exefile.exe directly because 3D Analyze creates a few temporary files in the directory where the linked file is. EVE checks for unknown files on startup and refuses to start because of this, thus the need for the .bat file to point to exefile.exe.

OK, I checked the temporary files that 3D Analyze copies to the linked .bat directory, and Force.dll is indeed one of them. The error you get is because 3D Analyze is not permitted to copy/create files in that directory. Are you logged in as administrator?

Edited by: Alejan Gerakh on 12/03/2009 17:49:34 Excuse us- sometimes we computer geeks forget not everyone who plays games can geek it up like us, and we omit or overlook certain steps... But the general gist seems to make sense, to me. Batch files are old-school 'Shortcut' files, in some respects. By telling it to open the ExeFile.exe, it is acting as a remote opener for the game. According to what I see mentioned, this is important to keep mess to a minimum and avoid an 'oh noes I'm being hacked' response from the EVE client.
I suspect some options for this program need to be tailored to the card being used, but I'm not entirely clear on the specifics. All I could recommend, myself, would be a little trial and error. Scientific Method FTW.
Also, I would recommend perhaps putting the batch file somewhere else? Does it have to be in the root EVE directory? ---- "Sounds like a bad case of pikal envy, if you ask me."

Someone said something about pointing to blank batch file. The file isn't blank but contains C:\progra~1\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe inside it. You may have to change the path if you didn't use default path when installing Eve.

i actually had to buy a 6200 for one of my comps.. it was literally the ONLY low-profile video card i could buy, that had more then 16mb of memory on it yeah, 6200 runs eve just fine, however, i can either choose to have graphics set on nothing, or, i can be happy with an average fps of 10.. meh, i mostly just browse the web on that one anyway
you could most likely get a much better card for just a little bit more money
my main computer has the opposite problem, i maxed out every setting, and am running at 1600x1200, and my fps is capped out no matter what.. :P
on another note, i might be having a problem with my laptop..(hp NC8000) still installing the patch on it, hoping it wont be stupid with me when i try running it.. but, it refused to run the old premium client, even though the video card in it, is a ati 9600, and those support SM2
did the old premium client ask for sm3 or something? i dont want to need to get a program like that to make my laptop run the features it's already supposed to support.. --- return the mines!

It's got 500-something total, but I think that other guy was right about it just allocating part of the system RAM as VRAM. Unbelievably, while it took about 2 minutes for the classic client to load up and show me a logon screen, the new client with this hack pops up in about 15 seconds.
I'm really glad that this has helped some people stay in the game. I'm not sure what's going on with the errors some of you are having, but the only purpose of the batch file with the path to the exefile.exe is to prevent 3d analyze from dumping it's DLL's in the bin directory (which makes Eve freak out and refuse to run). You might try moving the eve2.bat file to somewhere you know for sure can be copied to, like your desktop or my documents folder. Resist the temptation to just point 3d analyze at the eve.exe file, because that won't work and will just leave you frustrated. |

You are close to getting it work. Try downloading GPU-Z and check what your card supports. Then look at the (sparse) documentation in help.html located where you extracted 3D Analyze. There is also som documentation here (translated from italian)
You probably have to experiment some with different option to make it work. The settings provided in the screenie in this thread worked for me on a geforce2 gpu. Good luck.

I had the .dll issue as well, but I got it working.
What I did was I deleted and then reinstalled the 3D-Analyse program from it's old location in the /eve directory up one level to the /ccp directory, and deleted the forcedll file in the /eve directory - it's part of 3D, not EvE so dont panic about breaking EvE by nuking it.
I made sure my eve2.bat file in C:/program files/CCP/EVE said
C:\progra~1\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe
And then re-ran 3D-Analyze, pointing to that file and giving it the sekrit password to ignore CCP's quest to revitalise the Icelandic economy by getting people with old hardware to either buy new hardware or quit EvE.
Then it worked. Kinda. A bit. Well enough to change skills and move some money, at least.
And I loved the trippy black and white redecoration of the station, but the yellow blocks moving at random were, like, psychedelic.
I wonder if they'll be friends ?

Shame on CCP for completely messing up most aged Laptops with their new client. Let the players decide by themselves, if they want to cope with inferior framerates and/or old graphics, don't ban us right from the start.

Hey guys, been trying to follow this but having a bit of trouble so i thought to ask those who have succeeded. Running XP so no admin issues.
I installed 3D Analyzer - created a batch file by clicking on the eve.exe in the root directory. I then edited it to point at \bin\ExeFile.exe. I then went back into 3D analyzer opened the batch file and then clicked my check boxes, hit run and got; "create process failed" "error while injecting dll into target process"
Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

Create a normal txt file and rename it to eve2.bat in your eve directory. then edit it with notepad and put in the full location as following with Quotation marks IE "C:\Games\Eve online\bin\ExeFile.exe" My location is just an example, you have to put the appropriate path line into the file and save it. then open 3D analyzer and open batch file. do not save the batch file after ticking all the desired boxes. just click run and thats it. eve should start up and your done.

I am clear on all of it except for what batch file do i click on when i go back to into 3D Analyzer? Do you mean the txt file i just created? I don't seem to be able to select this with 3D Analyzer.

Edited by: Carla Klipkapper on 14/03/2009 01:13:52 Edited by: Carla Klipkapper on 14/03/2009 01:13:20 I presume the file still says eve2.bat.txt if so then you have to edit the file extension. to be able to do that. you go to the top of the explorer window click - tools - Folder Options - View and untick Hide Extension for known File type. then you should be able to rename the eve2.bat.txt and remove the last part .txt so it only reads eve2.bat also make sure when you are in 3D analyzer. click Select. change the file of type your looking for to Batch file. then it should appear and you open it

If you made the mistake of clicking save batch file in 3D analyzer and you still getting errors after trying my method mentioned above then go to eve directory and delete the batch file and the files 3D analyzer created then follow the above advice from scratch. I take no responsibility for your actions if you delete the wrong files!
I get an Error saying "There are extra files in your Eve Directory. If you've recently applied a patch you may need to restart" Then it lists the two config_DX.ini and config_GL.ini files..
Any Suggestions?

You can't link Exefile.exe directly! From 3danalyze you must link the eve.bat you created.
Originally by: Captain Plumbo
We can't link exefile.exe directly because 3D Analyze creates a few temporary files in the directory where the linked file is. EVE checks for unknown files on startup and refuses to start because of this, thus the need for the .bat file to point to exefile.exe.

to those having problems with the error injecting dll. I was getting the same thing and was frustrated by it and unpacked 3d analyze again and it found one more dll file that it "forgot" to unpack the first time. hook_3DA.dll was the file it was missing for me.
Got it up and running after some tinkering due to error above. some trippy graphics but atleast I can change my skills and check prices again and talk to people.

You can't link Exefile.exe directly! From 3danalyze you must link the eve.bat you created. The two files you get the message about is in the /bin directory in your EVE install. Just delete them (you can open them and check that they are 3D Analyze files if you want)

Originally by: Brun Thorvald I had the .dll issue as well, but I got it working.
I wonder if they'll be friends ?
thank you your instructions worked --- i get strange textures - thukker mix looks like a 1960's carpet --- 3.2fps in station --- lol lucky i have my pc though SIG: if my message has spelling errors its cos i fail at typing properly :P |

Works like a charm. The graphics is totally crapped out for me (I don't seem to get any textures - only "pixelnoise") but my FPS while the starmap is active is about twice of that of the classic client in starmap view. That's really great since I only use my laptop to update orders or set some skills, so I couln't care less about the 3d-stuff as long as the UI responsetimes are fast enough.
Thanks!

Yay! It works :)
I have an IBM T42 (ATI Mobility Radeon 7500).
Just make sure to mark all boxes that are indicated in the 1st post of this thread. Also make sure to put the .BAT file in the EVE root folder, before selecting/running 3dAnalyze (if you ran it earlier - delete the Force.dll file from the EVE folder, and delete and reinstall 3dAnalyze).
THANK YOU BOB !!!

Whenever I try to use 3D Analyzer to get Eve working on my old laptop I get the following error: Error while injecting dll into target process
I am trying to get it to run on my Dell 600m laptop with a Radeon 9000 graphics card and windows xp sp3. This laptop has exactly the same guts as the Dell D600 laptop mentioned earlier. I am running everything from an account with admin access.
My batch file is: C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve2.bat My batch file contains: C:\progra~1\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe
My 3D Analysis directory is: C:\3D Analyzer\ I have checked all boxes under the "Hardware Limits (cap bits)" and the "ANTI-DETECT MODE" sections, as well as the "skip pixel shader version 2.0" box. Everything else is set to default.
To run the program, I double click the 3DAnalyze.exe program in C:\3D Analyzer\ Then I select the aforementioned bat file. The checkboxes then fill themselves in as previously described. Then I click run, and get the aforementioned results.
If anyone could take a look at my setup and see if they can spot where I am going wrong I would really appreciate it.

question for you in the 3d analyzer folder do you have two .dll files
force.dll (i believe is the name of the one) hook_3DA.dll
If both of those are not there you will receive the error injecting .dll files message. If they are not both there try unpacking the 3d analyzer a second time or if you still have problem i'll gladly send you a copy of the file

I've managed to get it all the way to the login screen, but, when I enter my password, it says it is managing bulk data, like the client is trying to patch. It has the most current version, as of now it is running 6.10.85476. When it is done doing that, it loads a black screen, and then nothing. I can alt-tab out of the program to close it, and when I try to manually patch it says that I've already got the most recent version. No other resources have paid off for trying to fix this, and, is anyone else experiencing this problem or anything like it?

I have a IBM T40 laptop that has a ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. It could run EVE classic client, slow fps.
GPU-Z report:-
Quote:
Do all of the above which changes for where i have installed eve.. I get the Eve flash screen but the cmd.exe box does not progress beyond running E:>"C:\3D-ANALYZE\3DAnalyze.exe /EXE=E:\EVE.exe... to run the next line in the batch file ... "C:\3D-ANALYZE\3DAnalyze.exe" /EXE=E:\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe.
So i am stuck

Yarr got it to work. But this may infringe the EULA. I copied the ..\bin directory to another within the main EVE directory. Renamed it to something else. Got 3D Analyzer to point to ExeFile.exe within \EVE\alternatebindir\. I can now run EVE direct from 3D-Analyzer without having to faf about with batch files.
Now i need to tweak the 3D settings so i have functional client for just mining. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

So, I had been running great until the latest patch... When I start EVE is says: "Incompatible: Protocol." This is nothing new to me, and I can update it on my gaming PC just fine. However, when running EVE from 3DAnalyze on my laptop, it closes the client and fails to continue the update install. I even tried uninstalling the entire game, re-downloading the latest version from the CCP site, and re-installing it. It still says Incompatible, and attempts to download the newest 7.8MB patch.
While EVE client is still running it shows the download and progress bar. When the patch download is complete it says: "Client will now close and the update process will continue..." or something to that effect. The window closes and all I'm left with is 3DAnalyze still open.
Any advice? I can't seem to get the update properly installed! Thanks in advance... Jason SpinDoctor15 |

I did try first installing it on desktop. And it didn't work. Apparently it's having problems with spaces in the path name.
My comp is IBM T41 laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics.
And as it was stated before, I got great 2 FPS, but it's all I need for chat and managing my skills while on the road.

Damn, this doesn't seem to work anymore with Dominion. Can't change skills using my old comp now.

Still works with Dominion for me on my office laptop. But there is a lot of white noise in space now.
Runs even on windows 7.
Enough for AFK Hauling, Skill changing and chatting.

Edited by: Reyna Neens on 05/12/2009 00:20:16 I was using 3D Analyze. I had a GeForce 3 video card. Dominion did not run for me (fails to run after splash screen and black screen before login screen - except no splash screen with 3D Analyze). So I went ahead an bought a GeForce 6200 (for my 7 year old pc). It still doesn't work. I don't think it's 3D Analyze's fault.

How about a clever solution to this problem: BUY AN SM3 VIDEO CARD!!
Reading this thread is great, and I bet EVE runs at really low fps and you can't sit in too populated area's without running at 1 fps per minute. A cheap SM3 card won't cost you an arm and a leg and yet you people insist on being cheap, lol.

mate - the most guys here are doing this stuff on old laptops they own.- so as me. eve is running on my "normal" system but i want to use my laptop with radeon mobility 9000 also for chatting etc.
prob is following (admin): ºthere are extra files in your eve client installation... unknown files found:
c:\progra~1\ccp\eve\bin\config_dx.ini ...config _gl.ini ...d3df.dll ...d3dg.dll ...forcedll.dll ...hook_3da.dll ...opengl32.dll ...rvr2.bat (my .bat file)
would be great if someone has a solution.
i am a tech noob, so please in easy words :D

Im going to Germany with my Laptop with have Radeon Mobility 9000.
I have launch game by: Performance: mach "force SW TnL" Hardware: mach "emulate pixel shader caps"
And this is all. And remember that .bat file can't have any "space". So can't look like: "C:\EVE Online\ExeFile.exe" I have it like this and then game didn't want to start so I just change name of my folder from "EVE Online" to "EVE" so it look: "C:\EVE\ExeFile.exe" and game works so i can login and change my skills.
I cant play coz textures are white :( but i can change skills and this is fine for me :)
Maybe anyone resolve problem with white textures? :D
Sorry for my English, i hope you understand me :)
BTW: Since when eve goes to Shader Model 3.0? I hope this won't be in 18 May in Tyranis :(

I have a Dell latitude D500. does anyone know which boxes I should tick to make it work?
The only thing I see, is the splash screen of apocrypha, and then nothing.
I am having the exact same problem. The Tyrannis screen flashes and then nothing.
I'm running things the same was as the guy below here.

I'm running Vista Ultimate on a Gateway M-6750 laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 1.66GHz with an integrated graphics card.

Today I logged in and found this (it's a bug, don't ask me how I managed to do that):
Docked Undocked at Jita 4-4 Undocked with minimized UI
This is how a client without textures should look like
While we're at it: CCP should create such a client and make it a portable installation for USB-Sticks as well. For added awesomeness Windows XP-themed UI and Excel-style Market window
But I don't know whether there are enough people that might want something like that. -- those who can, do those who can't, complain |

That would certainly be sufficient for running EVE on my laptop to change skills. I also like the idea of a small client storable on a USB. This could allow you to quickly pop onto any computer while traveling or just being around and about, and allow you to quickly change your skills.
I wish I could get this 3D Analyze program to work at all though. All it does for me is flash the Tyrannis Splash screen and then doesn't load.
Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it? Could you tell me how please? >.<

It doesn't seem to work for many people (including myself).
If there are enough people supporting, we should raise a proposal in Assembly Hall (for CCP to release a client with the features I listed) imo -- those who can, do those who can't, complain
