Yes yes - we've heard it all before how puritanical we are in N. America (I'm Canadian, not American).
But for the sake of playing devil's advocate .. are you saying - "if it's not your standard - its crap?"
I think that's somewhat intolerant of you. Just because it's more strict doesn't make it wrong.

Umm, doesn't Europe have similar standardization boards? From what I seen of European TV, they are much more open about sex and less open about bloody violence

No, I mean it's a ridicoulus double standard. That graphic violence doesn't even raise an eyebrow, but a single b00b flashed at Superbowl throws the entire country into an uproar. ---

I hope people realized I was being sarcastic earlier. I mean it's a girl in a bikini for crying out loud. Turn on the TV to any channel and chances are good at some point you'll see a woman shaving her naked legs on a commercial, fake-orgasming in the shower because of her shampoo, or "worse".

As someone pointed out however, that Europe has it's standards too, just more to do with violence than sex.
Thing is we have different standards.
Here's an example. Wear a fur coat in Canada - not a big deal. Wear a fur coat in Europe - anti-fur ****'s get after you.
Yet is that a double-standard? No, its a socially defined standard - and to the fur-****'s makes as much sense, as our sexuality standards.
The difference is, we don't buy into all of your standards, and don't expect you to buy into all of ours.

After reading this entire thread all I have to say is wow. I once was in reverance at the player base of Eve before coming to this part of the forums. I felt most players were intelligent, balanced people who could see from multiple points of view and made Eve a truly wonderful experience with their experience and knowledge of things in game and out. So far all I've seen here is *****ing and whining to the highest level about a very infinatly small part of the game, when compared to the whole. I admit, I liked that station too, but I'm not blaming far right christians or calling "sell out" on ccp. Get a hold of yourselves people, it's difficult to skin something like that station for premium, especially after all the other things they had to work with. And now with ambulation being finalized, you want to rag on CCP for this ****? Get the hell over it, honestly. If you don't like it, give me your stuff and get out. They have their own reasons for doing this, for doing everything really. If it works, fine. So far, it hasn't bothered me in nul sec, low sec or high sec. Seriously, get over yourselves.

Due to great demand CCP announced new feature in ambulation.
Molten Core !
Thats right - you can now raid with 40 people and get - Tech 4 BPOs!
Also CCP stated that its still grizzled space where pirates kill, women get ra*ed and generaly there is low chance of anyone surviving.
Also if you buy the box now you get a free epic mid slot module of choice - coming in variety of colors.

You guys need not worry. EVE will still have it's own pleasure-hubs in ambulation.
Just because the site is being stripped of thing deemed inappropriate for a Teen rating, that does not mean that those things will be stripped from the game.
WoW has plenty of scantily-clad devil women npcs that whip whip themselves (and sound pleasured by doing so). Some of the funny phrases you character can say contain sexual innuendos.
Hell, even Little Big Planet -- an E rated game -- has a strip club in one of the official storyline levels. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is entitled to my opinion. |

This is really irritating.
Most Eve players are 20 or older anyway. Why would Eve, a dark, gritty game, go for a "T" rating, especially considering most of its players are not teenagers?
Age of Conan, while in most ways a failure, earned my respect for embracing an "M" rating and not watering down the subject matter in order to get more sales. A "T" rated game would have done a great disservice to Robert E. Howard's setting, and I think making Eve, while not using a classic pre-existing setting, would be better served by embracing an "M" rating and make the setting as dark and gritty as it should be.
In short, I think that trying to shoehorn a game that really should be mature by its nature into a "T"-rated game is selling out.

You mean, like ESRB? Yes, it's called PEGI. But the ratings are a bit different from those of ESRB. And European stores (as far as I know) do not discriminate adult material as American ones. And as someone pointed out, violence is more ofensive than nudity. After all, kids can see breasts at the beach every summer.
Originally by: Kyra Felann Most Eve players are 20 or older anyway. Why would Eve, a dark, gritty game, go for a "T" rating, especially considering most of its players are not teenagers?
Because some stores in USA will simply not sell the game if it's rated M. If you want to reach the majority of retail you better be rated T. ----

I don't think it's been two years has it? I do agree, though. I was happy when I saw the blue bar next to this thread and then disappointed when it turned out that it was just a moderator removing a link. This does not bode well.
Can CCP tell us if the pleasure hub will eventually be back, or if it's gone for good? Having only one station interior for Gallente (not sure about the others) is kind of boring. The Pleasure Hub one was my favorite. It had that unique Gallente style--holographic advertising, bustling trains, etc--whereas the current one, while pretty, is kind of bland.

Oh! That's right. Sorry, I confused M for AO. But then, T has a broader audience than M. It's what most games aim for. ----

Really? Do you live in the USA? Because I do, and I don't know of any store that doesn't sell M-rated games. Certainly all major retailers sell them. Wal-Mart sells them. Gamestop sells them. Circuit City, Best Buy, and Fry's sell them.
Some of the biggest-selling games in the last few years (Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto 4) are rated "M".
I think you're confusing "M" with "AO".

Yes, I already admitted that.
Edit: But besides my confusion, it's true that some major retailers decline to sell M rated games. Read this interesting article called "New Study Finds M-Rated Games Sell Best" in Gamasutra. You'll find this part:
Originally by: Gamasutra Notably, according to the study, mature-rated titles, comprising 10 percent of all US retail games examined, have both the highest average MetaCritic scores and the highest average gross sales in the United States -- despite the fact that some major retailers decline to sell them.
It's evident that teens like M rated games. But some states put high fines if they catch a store selling M rated games to minors. And the problem with AO is worse still. So, to avoid problems most developers aim for T, I guess.
All of that seems pretty obvious to me. I can imagine that only non-gamers would think otherwise.
How did CCP get tricked into falling for teen rated restriction? was it because some of their marketing people pushing? maybe their investors pushing? maybe some outside influence bullied them into it?
Or are they just losing the gamer spirit and turning into another big faceless corporate machine?

Ratings are ratings. How ratings are enforced is a shame. There's nothing wrong with putting a label saying "this game is violent and contains nudity." It's a great help for parents (I'm happen to be father and I appreciate the help.) But stores refusing to sell AO games or even M games is not very wise. Videogames are still being seen as toys for kids. So the "harmful" ones need to be put away for their "safety." Yes, it's that stupid.
And please, don't feel ashamed for this kind of things. There are a lot of things in your country to be proud of. Don't let the bad parts shade the good ones. ----

I think you're all jumping to conclusions. When premium was released, they striped all of the station interiors except the one, because they "didn't have time" to convert the other station interiors.
I think all we're seeing here is that CCP is still "too lazy" to convert all of the station interiors...
